For instance, I couldn't shake that something seemed off to me and so I double checked the special sabbath, and see I that erroneously referred to as special sabbath, Tzom Gedaliah, is but a minor fast day... and the special shabbatot is Shabbat Shuva (Shabbat of Returning), which falls Sept 23rd this year.

Sept 23rd is the first day of Tishri, being the first day of Trumpets, the first day of the year according to the Jewish civil calendar. I think that this Jewish civil calendar isn't Biblical because "Tishri" in scripture is the seventh month, not the first month. Many Jewish customs these days aren't recorded in scripture, so I don't take them very seriously. I take seriously what is recorded in scripture though.
