The trouble is, it doesn't work. This only adds up to three days and two nights, not three days and three nights.
Also, John 20:1
tells us that "on the first day of the week Mary Magdalene went to the tomb early, while it was still dark, and saw that the stone had been taken away from the tomb."

Did you catch the problem here? John tells us it was still dark when Mary went to the tomb on Sunday morning and found it empty. Jesus was already resurrected well before daybreak. Thus He wasn't in the tomb any of the daylight portion of Sunday, so none of that can be counted as a day.

Speaking of this generation that wants proof and refuses to believe, Jesus said: “…no sign will be given to it but the sign of Jonah the prophet; for just as JONAH WAS THREE DAYS AND THREE NIGHTS IN THE BELLY OF THE whale, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth” (Mat. 12:39-40).

The Christian world believes Jesus was buried late Friday afternoon and was resurrected early Sunday morning. Let’s do some simple math: Friday night makes one night; Saturday during the day makes one day; Saturday night makes one more night. That makes one day and two nights. That falls short of three days and three nights by 2 days and 1 night. We have only half of the total number of days. In hours, we have 36 at the most, when 72 hours are required for Jesus to be truthful and to be our Savior.

The main problem is less arithmetic than idolatry. We have chosen to worship tradition over Jesus. That’s much more tragic than bad math.

The Only Proof Jesus Gave that He Is Our Savior!
We’re on the verge of seeing another stone rolled away, a stone that is blocking our understanding. We as the body of Christ must understand the all-important timing of the resurrection. Without grasping this we cannot confirm that Jesus is our Savior.
First notice the timing of the burial, a key factor since once we know when the burial occurred, we have a simple math problem to calculate. We add 72 hours to the time of burial. Jesus was buried as the Sabbath was about to begin (Luke 23:44-46,54). It had not begun, so He was buried just before sunset on the day before the Sabbath. Which Sabbath?

When did the women return and prepare the spices? No timing is given in this verse. That’s where Mark 16:1-2 comes in: “When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, bought spices, so that they might come and anoint Him. Very early on the first day of the week, they came to the tomb when the sun had risen.”
Reading both passages in Mark and Luke, the only possible conclusion comes clear. Here we have women who see Jesus’ body laid in the tomb just before sunset ushers in the annual Sabbath.

They would not be able to buy spices and have time for the elaborate preparation of these ointments for burial purposes that night or the next, since it was a Sabbath and all shops were closed. They could only make these purchases and do these preparations on the day after the Sabbath, which Mark 16:1 confirms.

But Luke 23:56 says they prepared the spices before the Sabbath. God is not a liar and does not contradict Himself. They certainly did not buy their spices before and after the same Sabbath.

its all explained in god's own holy words... contained in the first three feasts...

read leviticus 23:1-14.

for god's own revelation of the crucifixion in the first three feasts and then the other 4 feasts what occurs after the resurrection to our own present day...

god bless.

Scripture also provides further proof that there were TWO Sabbaths that week-an annual and a weekly one. In Mark 15:47, Mary Magdalene and her companion watched Joseph of Arimathea lay Jesus in the tomb near the end of the Passover. The next verse, Mark 16:1, tells us that after the “Sabbath,” Mary Magdalene and her companions bought spices with which to anoint Christ’s dead body. However, Luke 23:56 shows that they prepared the spices before the Sabbath. Naturally, they couldn’t have prepared spices before they were even bought!

The only explanation that makes sense is that they bought the spices on Friday and prepared them the same day-after the annual Sabbath on Thursday and before the weekly Sabbath on Saturday! Then they rested on the weekly Sabbath-at the end of which Jesus was resurrected. The next morning, Sunday, they came to the tomb before
sunrise and found him already gone.

sundown 9th =10th day lamb taken
sundown 10th = 11th
sundown 11th =12th
sundown 12th =13th
sundown 13th = 14th or evening of the 14th

sundown 14th goes into the 15th or evening of the 15th
Exodus 12:6

King James Version (KJV)

6 And ye shall keep it up until the fourteenth day of the same month: and the wholeassembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it in the evening.

Keep it up until the 14th day at evening
When does the 14th day at evening starts the 13th day at sundown or evening bring the beginning of the 14th day or dark part or evening

He seemed to think it did matter...

Mat 12:38 Then certain of the scribes and of the Pharisees answered, saying, Master, we would see a sign from thee.
Mat 12:39 But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas:
Mat 12:40 For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

The resurrection was not in the morning, it was at sunset the evening before.

[h=3]Deuteronomy 16:1-6[/h]King James Version (KJV)

16 Observe the month of Abib, and keep the passover unto the Lord thy God: for in the month of Abib the Lord thy God brought thee forth out of Egypt by night.
2 Thou shalt therefore sacrifice the passover unto the Lord thy God, of the flock and the herd, in the place which the Lord shall choose to place his name there.
3 Thou shalt eat no leavened bread with it; seven days shalt thou eat unleavened bread therewith, even the bread of affliction; for thou camest forth out of the land of Egypt in haste: that thou mayest remember the day when thou camest forth out of the land of Egypt all the days of thy life.
4 And there shall be no leavened bread seen with thee in all thy coast seven days; neither shall there any thing of the flesh, which thou sacrificedst the first day at even, remain all night until the morning.
5 Thou mayest not sacrifice the passover within any of thy gates, which the Lord thy God giveth thee:
6 But at the place which the Lord thy God shall choose to place his name in, there thou shalt sacrifice the passover at even, at the going down of the sun, at the season that thou camest forth out of Egyp

Did you know that the four gospels
are in harmony about the resurrection
of Jesus?

Let us examine the following
questions concerning the death, burial,
and resurrection of Jesus from the four
gospels.

1. How long was Jesus in the grave?
Jesus said He would be in the grave
“three days and three nights”
(Matthew 12:40). This would be
seventy-two hours.

The accepted theory
(Friday burial and Sunday morning
resurrection) allows but two days and
two nights, and this by reckoning the last
hour of Friday as one day. Total: thirtysix
hours--just half of the required time.
