I was just wondering.

I know people get offended sometimes when in the middle of a serious debate someone will come in and start joking. I've read post of people complaining about it.

I always viewed it as a way to put things in perspective. to remind people to take a break from arguing their position to remember God's love and fellowship with other believers.

Does God have a sense of humor?

What does the JOy of the Lord mean to you?

Can you give Biblical examples of when Jesus has laughed or examples of His humanity?

Not sure but for sure I know the Lord has a sense of humour and laughs, there have been certain moments when something silly happens and you can tell.

It seems there are many with much to relate about what Yeshua taught and did, so, perhaps you should answer and have them answer. I answered this with a thread a long time ago.

I will commit again to saying this and only this, there is nothing wrong with having a joyful heart and a good spirit. Most humor I hear and see from so-called brethren here is bottom line at the expense of another. (Incoming.)

Well, Jesus took on a human nature (sinless though), so I am sure he would have found some things funny. We are also made I the image of God.

The difference with humour is that the world has a different idea they find crudeness funny, they fins someones unfortunate postion funny, to me that's not good, and would be sinful. There are many good Christian comedians who do not use crudeness, and yet are funny.

Joy to me is learning to be content in Jesus, no matter what situation..He is enough, that's the lesson I have learned (and by the way still learning).

Heres a good link on the subject:

Plenty of laughter in the bible, and in various contexts too

a time to weep and a time to laugh

He will yet fill your mouth with laughter and your lips with shouts of joy.

Our mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues with songs of joy. Then it was said among the nations, “The Lord has done great things for them.”

as for God, it seems mostly to be mockery against people who do wrong

but the Lord laughs at the wicked, for he knows their day is coming.

... but if we are made in His image, I am sure He too must sometimes find situations comical.

As for making jokes in the middle of debates: I think those who get insulted take the discussion too seriously

Lemme see here...

Mar 3:17 And James the son of Zebedee, and John the brother of James; and he surnamed them Boanerges, which is, The sons of thunder:

Now why did Christ call them the sons of thunder?

Luk 9:51 And it came to pass, when the time was come that he should be received up, he stedfastly set his face to go to Jerusalem,
Luk 9:52 And sent messengers before his face: and they went, and entered into a village of the Samaritans, to make ready for him.
Luk 9:53 And they did not receive him, because his face was as though he would go to Jerusalem.
Luk 9:54 And when his disciples James and John saw this, they said, Lord, wilt thou that we command fire to come down from heaven, and consume them, even as Elias did?

Jesus wept. This is written. He knows the heart of man, and needs no one to tell him how it is. As for Yeshua laughing, why would He?

As for good Christian comedians, are they found in churches?

Look above at the banner in the forum. Does fellowship mean having to have giggles? I do not think so. People may ridicule others all they want with the guise of humor and a wink, but it does not fool the Lord.

we all have a different disposition....if someone cuts me good.....i grade the irony and classyness of the cut.
haha....i love wit. And i agree....the discussion is not the same as the personalities that discuss. Even meanies
are only showing their disposition and why not? That alone says more oft times then the post they write.
I even like the oh so serious ones who pride themselves in their selfcontrol. Well not really!:p ha

I know of at least one person who confesses the Lord, Jesus, who became so discouraged by some others who would slur and insult what she posted. Now, I do not agree with all the person would post, but never did it occur to me to insult and ridicule with base humor. Pay attention to the basis of the so-called humor. Laughing at the evil is something that will come and all will but this by no means is to be interpreted as being a comedian at the expense of others. I know others have been offended by these same individuals in discussion of the Word of Yahweh. Perhaps there should be a humor forum for these people. I do not find anywhere where Jesus laughed, though I do know that Yahweh will laugh at the wicked come judgment. So it is written, but believe me, it is not because someone has told a joke.

Being cheerful and merry have no connection whatsoever with jokes. Think about it.

I can only give examples to make praise unto God to God for God and by God

  1. Psalm 66:1
[ Psalm 66 ] [ To the chief Musician, A Song or Psalm. ] Make a joyful noise unto God, all ye lands:
Psalm 66:1-3 (in Context) Psalm 66 (Whole Chapter) Other Translations
  2. Psalm 81:1 [ Psalm 81 ] [ To the chief Musician upon Gittith, A Psalm of Asaph. ] Sing aloud unto God our strength: make a joyful noise unto the God of Jacob.
Psalm 81:1-3 (in Context) Psalm 81 (Whole Chapter) Other Translations
  3. Psalm 95:1 [ Psalm 95 ] O come, let us sing unto the Lord: let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation.
Psalm 95:1-3 (in Context) Psalm 95 (Whole Chapter) Other Translations
  4. Psalm 95:2 Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto him with psalms.
Psalm 95:1-3 (in Context) Psalm 95 (Whole Chapter) Other Translations
  5. Psalm 98:4 Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all the earth: make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise.
Psalm 98:3-5 (in Context) Psalm 98 (Whole Chapter) Other Translations
  6. Psalm 98:6 With trumpets and sound of cornet make a joyful noise before the Lord, the King.
Psalm 98:5-7 (in Context) Psalm 98 (Whole Chapter) Other Translations
  7. Psalm 100:1 [ Psalm 100 ] [ A Psalm of praise. ] Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands.
Psalm 100:1-3 (in Context) Psalm 100 (Whole Chapter) Other Translations

Jesus, exemplified this as he did only what Father said to say and or do. All trust to Father. So are we as people trying to outdo one another? I think we all can learn from each other. I know I have learned much

I wrote you a respectful post once...in agreement with your position....and you blasted me for it.
So i doubt you really see clearly all the time. In fact i know you dont...my opinion is that your hate
for humor is based on your easily offendedness. As you say..."the Lord does see this"

How can anyone confuse joy with jokes? I am joyful in Yeshua always, and guess what! Tears of joy. I await laughter in His time.

Any time the product of people in this particular forum's jokes is causing someone perhaps weak in the faith to fall, this is a grave sin. It is not just bad, it is a millstone tailored to the neck of the one causing one to stumble, from the Word.

Is anyone here in need of a message of good cheer and joy? The following is such, and it does not bring laughter; it brings joy, pure and true.

Eze 34:8
As I live, saith the Lord GOD, surely because my flock became a prey, and my flock became meat to every beast of the field, because there was no shepherd, neither did my shepherds search for my flock, but the shepherds fed themselves, and fed not my flock;

Eze 34:9
Therefore, O ye shepherds, hear the word of the LORD;

Eze 34:10
Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against the shepherds; and I will require my flock at their hand, and cause them to cease from feeding the flock; neither shall the shepherds feed themselves any more; for I will deliver my flock from their mouth, that they may not be meat for them.

Eze 34:11
For thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I, even I, will both search my sheep, and seek them out.

Eze 34:12
As a shepherd seeketh out his flock in the day that he is among his sheep that are scattered; so will I seek out my sheep, and will deliver them out of all places where they have been scattered in the cloudy and dark day.

Eze 34:13
And I will bring them out from the people, and gather them from the countries, and will bring them to their own land, and feed them upon the mountains of Israel by the rivers, and in all the inhabited places of the country.

Eze 34:14
I will feed them in a good pasture, and upon the high mountains of Israel shall their fold be: there shall they lie in a good fold, and in a fat pasture shall they feed upon the mountains of Israel.

Eze 34:15
I will feed my flock, and I will cause them to lie down, saith the Lord GOD.

Eze 34:16
I will seek that which was lost, and bring again that which was driven away, and will bind up that which was broken, and will strengthen that which was sick: but I will destroy the fat and the strong; I will feed them with judgment.

Eze 34:17
And as for you, O my flock, thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I judge between cattle and cattle, between the rams and the he goats.

Eze 34:18
Seemeth it a small thing unto you to have eaten up the good pasture, but ye must tread down with your feet the residue of your pastures? and to have drunk of the deep waters, but ye must foul the residue with your feet?

Eze 34:19
And as for my flock, they eat that which ye have trodden with your feet; and they drink that which ye have fouled with your feet.

Eze 34:20
Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD unto them; Behold, I, even I, will judge between the fat cattle and between the lean cattle.

Eze 34:21
Because ye have thrust with side and with shoulder, and pushed all the diseased with your horns, till ye have scattered them abroad;

Eze 34:22
Therefore will I save my flock, and they shall no more be a prey; and I will judge between cattle and cattle.

Eze 34:23
And I will set up one shepherd over them, and he shall feed them, even my servant David; he shall feed them, and he shall be their shepherd.

Eze 34:24
And I the LORD will be their God, and my servant David a prince among them; I the LORD have spoken it.

I just called a friend, and he had one of those moments where right when you think about someone they call. He answers the phone and says, 'I was just cutting some cheese and thinking about you.' I'm thinking to myself, 'Oh great...'

This must be at my expense, nice wink. Now, when I am away from discussing the Word of Yahweh, Which Yeshua suffered and died to give us, I am perfectly capable of a joke dealing with the profane, but within the context of discussing the Word, I cannot do away with the vanity of so many with their funny posts. You may not believe this, but there are no jokes in the Word.

There is a season for all things, but I am afraid many who think they are walking in the Light are in great darkness.

Jesus certainly laughs as laughter comes from God in the first place as does a sense of humor.

Which is worst? someone who takes joking to far? Or one who falls on his own sword and squeals about it?:p
A trip through 1 cor 13 may help this disorder.
