I Cor 15:1-4 sums it up nicely:

15 Now I would remind you, brothers,[SUP][a][/SUP] of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, [SUP]2 [/SUP]and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you—unless you believed in vain.
[SUP]3 [/SUP]For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, [SUP]4 [/SUP]that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures,

thanks for all the input folks. im gonna read some on Ephesians and see what i can learn. im still scratching my head. you would think that if Jesus was the great teacher, and the prophesies about him put emphasis on this, it would only make sense that the great teacher would have taught everything you needed to know.

IMO, the Gospel is the proclamation that the fellowship that mankind enjoyed with God in the garden before Adam sinned by eating the forbidden fruit, can be restored by trusting in (and only in) Jesus' substitutionary sacrifice on the cross.
-restored? I believe Adam was a mortal and corruptible [before] he ate anything,
he just had not sinned yet againest God, in future that can't happen us sinning againest God.

So when this corruptible shall [have put on] incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality,
then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.

Did I come across a little "haughty" ? That was not my attention... Just get tired that every decent thread having seeds of adversity planted... I have been learning a lot from the discussions and did not want to take it towards destructive debate... those questions had nothing to do with any answer I gave... they are truly, age old debate questions used at seminary debates for philosophical thinking. They are written to make one question, defend and re-evaluate... :cool:

Then said he, Unto what is the kingdom of God like? and whereunto shall I resemble it?

He said therefore, A certain nobleman went into a far country
to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return.

But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God,
[and] the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.

Acts 28:31
Preaching the kingdom of God, [and] teaching those things which concern
the Lord Jesus Christ, with all confidence, no man forbidding him.

18 Hear ye therefore the parable of the sower.

19 When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh
the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart.
This is he which received seed by the way side.

24Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is likened
unto a man which sowed good seed in his field:

31Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is like to
a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and sowed in his field:

33Another parable spake he unto them; The kingdom of heaven is like unto leaven,
which a woman took, and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened.

36Then Jesus sent the multitude away, and went into the house: and his disciples
came unto him, saying, Declare unto us the parable of the tares of the field.

37He answered and said unto them, He that soweth the good seed is the Son of man;
38 The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom;
but the tares are the children of the wicked one;

39 The enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world;
and the reapers are the angels.

40 As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire; so shall it be in the end of this world.

41 The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of
his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity;

Uh.... read Judges 3:21 and a few verses following. THAT's the Gospel? No, I don't think Jesus meant to go preaching stuff like that.
so the gospel is only something that is preached? please post the text that shows this limitation please...

Jesus may be the Good News now but He will be Bad News then...

.
Luk 4:18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,
Luk 4:19 To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.
Luk 4:20 And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him.

Isa 61:1 The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;
Isa 61:2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD,

--------------------

and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn;

Isa 61:3 To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.

Isa 61:4 And they shall build the old wastes, they shall raise up the former desolations,
and they shall repair the waste cities, the desolations of many generations.

Isa 61:5 And strangers shall stand and feed your flocks, and the sons of t
he alien shall be your plowmen and your vinedressers.

Isa 61:6 But ye shall be named the Priests of the LORD: men shall call you the Ministers of our God:
ye shall eat the riches of the Gentiles, and in their glory shall ye boast yourselves.

Isa 61:7 For your shame ye shall have double; and for confusion they shall rejoice in their portion:
therefore in their land they shall possess the double: everlasting joy shall be unto them.

what is the gospel? many might say good news so whats the good news? i have always believed it was the teachings of Jesus, pretty simple but some have different views.
Excellent! Good start.
Jesus said, "This Gospel would be preached until the end". So we know it is His Gospel, which He ""went town to town preaching". That Gospel is not the one preached today. Many in the modern church are clueless when it comes to the Gospel of Christ.

Yes I have seen so many instruct on the coming to the Lord and hearing what He said but then leave it at that.

That is not what Jesus said in Luke 6:46-49 though as He said: Come to Him, hear what He says, then go and do what He said.

This is what the Lord Jesus said a true believer who's faith is founded on Him will look like !!!

when Jesus sent out the 12 he instructed them to teach the gospel, is this the same as the everlasting gospel?
His exact words of instruction are "proclaim the kingdom of God" is this the same as the gospel?
That is the real Gospel of Jesus Christ. His Words from God. His message from God. Any other gospel according to Paul is cursed. Paul preached the same Gospel of Christ.
Acts 28:31 KJV)
"Preaching the kingdom of God, and teaching those things which concern the Lord Jesus Christ," with all confidence, ....

For our purposes as the Church. ..

1 Corinthians 15:1-4 (KJV)
1 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;
2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.
3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

There are other Gospels but the one above is the one in which Paul states we are saved.
Which them means the one Jesus the Christ preached was "Useless"???????
Or is it that the modern church does not understand what Jesus and Paul taught?
Paul was not going to teach anything which contradicted what Jesus taught. Jesus Is and Was the final Word to us. Paul is merely a side note to the teachings of Jesus. Paul was only building up on the Gospel of Christ and filling in gaps not fully dealt with by Jesus.

Why is the Kingdom of God at Hand?

Because Christ Jesus is at hand.

He tells us Come to Him and He will give us Rest. We will rest because He will bring us into the Kingdom.

That is the Good News. Jesus Christ is imminent.

Romans 14:17-19
[SUP]17 [/SUP]For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.
[SUP]18 [/SUP]For he that in these things serveth Christ is acceptable to God, and approved of men.
[SUP]19 [/SUP]Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another.

The Gospel of Christ is that he died for our sins and on the third day rose. The teachings of Christ are teachings we must follow but the true meaning of the Gospel is that Jesus died for our sins and rose from the grave. 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 is the Gospel of Christ..the good news! And this is truth as stated in 1 Cor 15:3 "according to the Scriptures".
Once again the Words of Jesus, Words of God are considered useless and void. How is that????? Jesus said His Gospel would be preached until the end. The TRUE meaning of the Gospel is defined by Jesus the Christ. The modern version of the gospel usurps the Gospel of the Christ and replaces it with another. Another gospel which ignores what Jesus taught and says its not for today. I challenge anyone to find where Jesus taught the modern gospel of "Jesus died for our sins and rose from the grave". The scripture states, "Jesus went town to town preaching the Gospel", which means there is only one True Gospel preached by the Christ. The Gospel preached by Paul needs to be understood from the view point of Jesus. Jesus defines Paul. Paul does not define Jesus, but builds upon the foundation of Christ.

The gospel is the "good news" of the death, burial and resurrection of Christ (1 Corinthians 15:1-4) and is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that BELIEVES.. (Romans 1:16).

Interestingly, Jesus didn't go around teaching about His death, burial, and resurrection.

The many people who turned to Him in His lifetime here didn't come to Him because He told them He was going to die, and then come back..... He only mentioned that to a few of His closest disciples. And as the Emmaus Road story tells us, even they didn't REALLY have a handle on THAT kind of wild notion. Just something to think about.

Right on! God had me go back and discover the Gospel after 35yrs of preaching the modern gospel. God had me read the Gospels and only the Gospels for 6yrs until I began to understand what Jesus taught as the Gospel. The problem was that the modern gospel kept me from fully understanding what Jesus preached. It gave new meaning to," the god of this world has blinded their eyes and dulled their ears least they hear". Much the the modern church falls into this realm. I speak as one who was there.

I have limited myself to only teaching what Jesus taught. When I did this it opened up my understanding of what Paul taught. I was taught in bible college that Paul taught a different gospel than Jesus and that gospel was the updated gospel. I was taught that the Gospel taught by Jesus was not for today because it was a gospel to the Jews about the promised Kingdom of God. Jesus said,"This Gospel will be preached till the end". That means there is only one Gospel which the Christ preached. Which means that every thing else written must be understood from the Gospel preached by Jesus. Paul preaches the same Gospel as Jesus. The difference is that Paul take a more scholarly examination of the Christ and His mission.

Acts 10:34-43
34Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons: 35But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him. 36The word which God sent unto the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ: (he is Lord of all:) 37That word, I say, ye know, which was published throughout all Judaea, and began from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached; 38How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him. 39And we are witnesses of all things which he did both in the land of the Jews, and in Jerusalem; whom they slew and hanged on a tree: 40Him God raised up the third day, and shewed him openly; 41Not to all the people, but unto witnesses chosen before of God, even to us, who did eat and drink with him after he rose from the dead. 42And he commanded us to preach unto the people, and to testify that it is he which was ordained of God to be the Judge of quick and dead. 43To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.
