The principle still applies. As soon as man-made traditions and ideas enter into the churches, the Word of God is voided. We have two groups of "traditionalist" churches within Christendom today -- the Orthodox Churches and the Roman Catholic Churches. Both groups elevate "Holy Tradition" to the level of Scripture, and in practice ABOVE Scripture.
I would offer another perspective, both ideas are as one. There is no orthodoxy in opinions of God law. He informs us there must be heresies among us. His kingdom is not of this world. It would seem you are comparing the things of men to the same, things of men

We have one master, either the Spirit of Truth, God's Spirit, or the spirit of lies... the father of lies.

The distinction is between the things seen of men, temporal, and the things not seen of God, the eternal. It’s the principle we use to receive the unseen spiritual understanding hidden in parables as hidden manna.

For our light affliction, which is for the moment, worketh for us more and more exceedingly an eternal weight of glory; while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal. 2Co 4:17

By the things of men the father of lies Satan works to usurp the authority of the invisible things of God.

The Catholics’ try and make it about the orthodoxy of themselves comparing themselves by themselves and not comparing to our standard the word of God putting Peter on the throne to usurp the things of God not seen.

Then Peter took him, and began to
rebuke him, saying, Be it far from thee, Lord: this shall not be unto thee. But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men. Mat 16:22

What are the things of men ?

What voids the word of God immediately is the intrusion of human wisdom. 911 prove this when evil was given access by God! Study 1 Cor. 1:17-31

[SUP]19 [/SUP]For it is written:“I will destroy the wisdom of the wise;
the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate.”[SUP][c][/SUP]

In fact, if we cling to the traditions, we will not even think about consulting Jesus and His word, for we will think we have everything that we need.

Let's take the tradition of baptizing infants. This is a very widespread tradition throughout Christendom today, even though the New Testament makes it crystal clear that Christian baptism was only for those who were actually converted. So first the error of baptismal regeneration was introduced, and then the practice of infant baptism followed.
Infant baptism is two mistakes:

1. Trying to force an eternal decision upon another just because we want it for them. (that's not love, that's an attempt at forced bondage)

2. Not believing God's word that the children are automatically covered/clean if at least one parent is a child of God.

1Co_7:14 For the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband: else were your children unclean; but now are they holy.

Love in Jesus,
Kelby

Why do we hear the word of God? God has a purpose for His word. Gods purpose is attained either when men respond and receive Christ or reject Christ and are condemned.

Mans traditions take men away from Gods word if they are not scriptural. Water baptism to be saved does it draw men to Christ or away? Keeping the Sabbath does it draw men to Christ or lead them away?

I'm just pointing out scripture. :) Let me restate the verse in the KJV...

"Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye." Mark 7:13

Jesus was rebuking the Pharisees here. Don't take my word for it, read the chapter yourself.

The word used here for "of none effect" is akyroō which means, to invalidate:—disannul, make of none effect.

The Pharisees were entrusted to expound the law, and to enforce it; and, under pretence of using that power, they violated the law, and dissolved the bonds of it; destroying the text with their comment.
