The one reward is the same for all a pennies worth eternal life.

Matthew 20:2And when he had agreed with the labourers for a penny a day, he sent them into his vineyard.

Matthew 20:9And when they came that were hired about the eleventh hour, they received every man a penny.

Matthew 20:10But when the first came, they supposed that they should have received more; and they likewise received every man a penny.

Matthew 20:13 But he answered one of them, and said, Friend, I do thee no wrong: didst not thou agree with me for a penny?

Wow what a good question. We read of all kinds of rewards, don't we? Crowns, dwellings (mansions), eternal life, no more sorrow, imperishable bodies, even streets of gold and pearly things.

I think we can only fathom and speculate the specifics and conditions of a glorious estate that is not yet fully explained and defined. The truths that for me are certain with regards to Heaven are found in Psalms 16:11

He will show us the path of life, in His presence there is fullness of joy and at His right hand there are pleasures forever more!!!

I merely want to know what our rewards will be, in additions to the crowns. :)
1 Corinthians 2:9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.

I don't think we can ever comprehend the fullness of all that we will have or be in new heaven / new earth.

Psalm 16:

5 The LORD is the portion of mine inheritance and of my cup: thou maintainest my lot.

6 The lines are fallen unto me in pleasant places; yea, I have a goodly heritage.

7 I will bless the LORD, who hath given me counsel: my reins also instruct me in the night seasons.

8 I have set the LORD always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.

9 Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoiceth: my flesh also shall rest in hope.

10 For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.

11 Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.

The Lord is the portion of our inheritance [WOW!!!]. In new heaven / new earth, we will be in the presence of the Lord and in His presence is fullness of joy and pleasures for evermore. I do not believe we will lack any good thing.

And interestingly enough, we are His portion (Deut 32:9 - For the LORD'S portion is his people).

That is my question. What are our rewards? Can we choose the ones we want? Does the bible say anything about what they are?? :) Answers with scripture are welcomed..
Our rewards in heaven will be exactly what we laid up in store for our future.

"Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also" (Matthew 6:19-21).

"Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy; That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate; Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life" (I Timothy 6:17-19).

I sure don't want to be amongst all those riches in heaven and have a charge card with a zero balance! Laying up in store and laying hold on eternal life are not different things.

WHY do most quote the above verse and without exception LEAVE off the next verse while saying I don't think we can know.....
1st Corinthians 2:10 But God has revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searches all things, yea, the deep things of God.

So do you think this means we have potential to have complete unveiling of our future estate?

For our current discussion, I left off verse 10 because we are speaking of a time in the future in which it is impossible for us with our finite minds to comprehend what will be in new heaven / new earth.

I keep in mind this verse when it comes to things that are yet future:

1 Corinthians 13:12 For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.

I think in this life God reveals to us as much as we are able to comprehend and I understand there are things we cannot comprehend due to limitations foisted upon us through Adam.

"The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law" (Deuteronomy 29:29).

So, hidden things are a lot deeper than deep things.

I think my quoted verse (verse 10) is aimed squarely at verse 9 -->1 Corinthians 2:9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.

ND what ever Paul is discussing in verse 9 is revealed UNTO US -->1st Corinthians 2:10 But God has revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searches all things, yea, the deep things of God.

If we are willing to listen.......and to use verse 9 as it has been used by many as the "go to verse" about what we cannot know is erroneous at best.....

I do not disagree that there are things we cannot know....such as what the 7 thunders uttered, or maybe what JESUS wrote in the dirt when the woman taken in adultery was brought before him.....MY point is simple.....verse 9 is followed by verse 10 which is aimed squarely at verse 9.....VERSE 10 states clearly that THOSE things in verse 9 HAVE BEEN revealed unto us by HIS SPIRIT....

Just a quick question and I think I know you enough from what you write that you would not agree with the following....
IS IT OK to take a belief we have and "HANG IT ON A VERSE TAKEN OUT OF CONTEXT" to prove a point that we may believe in...regardless if said belief is biblical or not?

Of good is the key, hoping for a 1000 pounds of Hersey bars to eat all day long isn't a good request lol.

Psalm 84:11
For the LORD God is a sun and a shield; the LORD gives grace and glory; He withholds no good thing from those who walk with integrity.

Isaiah 63:7
I will make known the LORD's loving devotion and His praiseworthy acts, because of all the LORD has done for us--even the many good things He has done for the house of Israel according to His compassion and the abundance of His loving devotion.

can you do without the candy part? lol
What've you got against candy??? But I agree that a 1000 pounds of Hershey bars might be bad just because of lack of variety...I'd like to split my thousand pounds up into all the candy groups...jk...lol;)

Seriously though, just making it to Heaven will be reward enough for me...I don't care if I get any rewards or not...I'd be happy just to shine the other people's crowns as long as I make it there....Because whatever it's like there, it will sure beat the alternative...:)

Since you bring up the issue of CONTEXT, we must also understand that 1 Cor 2:9 closely follows 1 Cor 2:7 But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory and I do believe there are things which we still do not understand concerning those things which God ordained before the world unto our glory. Our glory is yet future.

In reading 1 Cor 2:9-10, I believe God reveals to us all He can reveal to us at any given point in time. I believe God continues to reveal to us throughout the course of our lifetime here on earth. And at the end of my days here on earth, I still will not know all there is to know of that hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory notwithstanding what God tells me in 1 Cor 2:10. There always seems to be so much more (imho). And that is so thrilling to me and keeps me coming back to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I want more and more and more of Him ...

Here is what Paul wrote concerning that hidden wisdom briefly mentioned in 1 Cor 2:

Ephesians 3:

1 For this cause I Paul, the prisoner of Jesus Christ for you Gentiles,

2 If ye have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which is given me to you-ward:

3 How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery; (as I wrote afore in few words,

4 Whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ)

5 Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit;

6 That the Gentiles should be fellowheirs, and of the same body, and partakers of his promise in Christ by the gospel:

7 Whereof I was made a minister, according to the gift of the grace of God given unto me by the effectual working of his power.

8 Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ;

9 And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ:

10 To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God,

11 According to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord:

12 In whom we have boldness and access with confidence by the faith of him.

The mystery has been revealed - the one body in Christ which consists of Jews and gentiles (vs 6).

However, the riches of Christ are unsearchable [aneksixníastos (literally, "not able to trace the steps of") – properly, impossible to "track" ("trace the steps of"); unable to follow or fully comprehend ("incomprehensible"); inscrutable, past finding out]. There is always something more we can understand. And to be honest, I think even when we do live in new heaven / new earth, there will always be more to God than what we understand even then. God is so much more than anything anyone can ever understand. God is that magnificent.

  • 1) The incorruptible crown: This is also called the imperishable crown. ...
  • 2) The Crown of Rejoicing: To those who faithfully are witnesses to the saving grace of God and leads souls to Jesus. ...
  • 3) The Crown of Life: ...
  • 4} The Crown of Righteousness: ...
  • 5) The Crown of Glory:

Back in the 70s, I knew this guy and he absolutely loved chocolate. He got a 5 lb (it might even have been 10 lb) Hershey chocolate bar. The thing was humongous. He asked me if I'd like a piece and I said sure (which I think disappointed him - he really did not want to share ... he was just being polite). He shared one little mite of it with me. Sure enough, he ate the whole thing and wanted more. He was such a funny man.

fyi ... Snickers is my fav ...
