I know men who disagree with the rape and age of consent laws, that a 15 year old girl is an adult, etc. If pushed, they then support their argument saying that a girl becomes a woman when she menstruates (many men may believe this based on their silence) so yes, I think it is a problem it is not mentioned at all.
Well, there's no question it's a problem but I don't blame the Bible. I blame the sick society we live in and the men who are screwed up in the head.

To this day even the 9-10 year old boys need supervision to keep the child sex trafficking at bay.

Because if your 9 year old goes missing....there's a strong chance he will be in the sex traffic trade in the middle east by the following week.

It is covered by the statutes against whoredom and in the roles proper for women since one has to ask the father for permission to marry and women shouldn't be running around outside the home anyways.

Even Wikipedia has this reference:

Scholars, mainly scholars of Punic studies,[5] has argued that the ceremonies to Moloch are in fact a non-lethal dedication ceremony rather than a sacrifice. These theories are partially supported by commentary in the Talmud and among early Jewish commentators of the Bible.

Many men may believe this based on their silence"
In 46 years I've never known a man to believe this. Nor am I aware of having ever heard of this. So perhaps rushing to judgment about millions of men's silence on the subject is leading you to wrong assumptions.
Not to say there aren't some that do, but to push this as a belief "many" men hold is quite baseless.

This has always bothered me. Bible speaks strongly against adultery, incest, bestiality, homosexuality, etc. but nothing against this. I've heard Bible rule on only sex within marriage covers all these issues, but still.
Hmm so you don't know its wrong? See God wrote HIs laws on our hearts. We know right and wrong some choose to listen others don't. Granted in this day and age since Christ is coming any moment, the enemy can make it seem very confusing. Homosexuality, abortion on and on. They are in full bloom today... as is Israel ;)

Let me begin by saying that I am definitely NOT in favor of pedophilia.

In fact, my ex-wife was sexually molested by her own father repeatedly between the ages of 5 and 6 years old, and I've personally witnessed how she is still majorly psychologically damaged by the same at age 52...even if she doesn't presently recognize it herself (she's recognized it in the past...now I believe that she's hiding behind a wall that's she erected to block those memories out).

Along these same lines, I used to date a woman who was sexually molested by one of her mother's boyfriends at age 4, and she wound up extremely psychologically damaged as well. In her case, she ultimately fell into a life of prostitution for many years until becoming a Christian later on in life. Even as a Christian, the psychological damage is still a major issue.

With these disclaimers out of the way, I also admit that I've often wondered about something FROM GOD'S PERSPECTIVE.

This "something" has to do with a girl's menstrual cycle which normally begins when she's around 12 years old (in some cases, it starts earlier than this), and a boy hitting puberty usually around the same age or even earlier. In other words, it seems that God designed children to be ready for sexual activity at a young age.

Having said this, again, I am definitely NOT in favor of pedophilia or of an adult having sexual relations with a young child.

At the same time, however, I'm just wondering if God didn't originally see fit that young boys and girls could start marrying EACH OTHER at an early age.
I've wondered the same thing. I think people in Bible times got married a lot quicker then we do. Also back in the old west, people got married quickly because they also died sooner then we do. People matured mentally quicker because they had too.

I agree that pedophilia is wrong.

Revelation 22:15
Outside are the dogs, the sorcerers, the sexually immoral persons, the murderers, the idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices lying.

1 Corinthians 6:9
Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals,

Ephesians 5:3

But sexual immorality or any impurity or greed must not even be mentioned among you, as is proper among saints;

If this has been addressed already, my apologies.

There is evidence that the age at which puberty begins is trending downwards and has been for quite some time. We need to be cautious about making observations in our fallen world and assuming that the ways things "are" is the way God designed or intended.

Probably for the same reason that the word "trinity" isn't in the Bible; we can glean that truth from what Scripture actually says about God's nature and character.

And no, this is not meant to start a discussion on the trinity; it's an analogy to show that pedophilia is indeed addressed in the Bible, albeit "silently".

God did not have to mention all sins to address sins that are of names not mentioned in the bible, they are covered in what is known as

wickedness and workers of iniquity. By the very nature of God and his word, sex with children is never condoned or mentioned. God said, for this reason, shall a man leave his mother and father and cleave to his wife. Gen 2:24.
In the law sexual misconduct was dealt with very severely. Children were known to be a blessing. God hated the sacrifices to Baal of children. Jesus said to cause a child to fall will bring a serious response from God if not now it will happen then.

God expects US the church to be fully engaged to protect children. Sex with a Child doesn't need to be listed it is as wrong as all sins covered in the word of God when you look at what God hates sex with a child is as much an abomination as sex between two men. God did not need to say it it was very much discernable. except for this generation today. that is why He coming soon!

Whenever something isn't specifically regulated in the Bible; then it falls into
the category of debatable issues-- i.e. gray areas --which (for Christ's
followers) are addressed by the 14th chapter of Romans.

1» Romans 14 forbids argument

2» Romans 14 forbids condemning second opinions

3» Romans 14 requires everyone to be fully persuaded in their own minds.

4» Romans 14 forbids resisting your conscience

5» Romans 14 forbids playing God, viz: forbids imposing your own personal
standards on others as if their own personal standards don't matter.

I am new to the group, so I do not know any of you or anything about you except what you post. I specifically searched for "child abuse" and this thread came up. I searched because I was interested to see if there was a conversation among Christians on this topic. I am interested in this topic because I was raped throughout my young childhood. I was raped by two different men and raped by my mother throughout my young childhood. I am now 70 years old. A husband, father and grand father. I tell you all this so you know where I am coming from when I respond to your question. God is omniscient, omnipotent and omnipresent. God is love. God is infinite. We, being finite, cannot understand infinity - but we can catch glimpses of it. The bible mentions rape. The bible mentions children being sacrificed to idols. Children who are raped, are being sacrificed to false gods... gods of lust and power. These children are impacted in so many ways that impact them for life. Some are killed. Most, if not all, come to believe lies about themselves that they were taught from a young age. Feeling valueless and powerless are two of those lies. God loves us. With God's love, we can testify to the truth in order to bring about compassion for those who have suffered and are suffering. Many children who have been raped grow up to become "mentally ill", homeless, believe they are LGBTQI or a member of the opposite sex... and so on.... they are wounded people in need of healing - not condemnation. It has never bothered me that this is not mentioned or graphically described in the bible because child sacrifice - the lack of love for children due to selfish reasons - is indeed mentioned.
