Even though they contain different truths? Is God the author of confusion? The lost world thinks we are crazy to have more than one Bible and each contains different truths. And yet we base our beliefs off the word of God...bizarre.

or it could also be that the KJV was a translation made in the early 1600's, and while it is fine, some 500 years later more translations have been made in modern and different languages , and they are fine to use to. so, God's word has been preserved, but not in the 1611 version only.

no, the lost world thinks we are crazy because of stuff like " if you do not use the original KJV Bible you are not a true Christian". it is because of ridiculous closed-minded thinking like this that we are not taken seriously. use the KJV. nothing wrong with it. but KJV only,?? nah, pass.

When it comes to the word of God, I'm sorry, I am closed minded. If the KJV is not the words of God, then where are they? I want them, I need them to live right with God. If a man is to live right with God he needs all the words God has given.

Taken seriously? How can we be taken seriously when we have over 100 different Bibles that all say something different? How can we defend our beliefs to a lost world if we don't have a final authority to appeal to?

1 Corinthians 1:12 What I mean is this: One of you says, “I follow Paul”; another, “I follow Apollos”; another, “I follow Cephas”; still another, “I follow Christ.” 13 Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Were you baptized in the name of Paul? 14 I thank God that I did not baptize any of you except Crispus and Gaius, 15 so no one can say that you were baptized in my name. 16 (Yes, I also baptized the household of Stephanas; beyond that, I don’t remember if I baptized anyone else.) 17 For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel—not with wisdom and eloquence, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power.

Matthew 12:25 Jesus knew their thoughts and said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself will be ruined, and every city or household divided against itself will not stand.

Have people been saved, and will be saved, using translations other than the KJV?

Of course.

But I do agree that certain translations are so off center they should be avoided. The NIV is one, along with The Message bible.

I mostly use the NASB, but the KJV is my go-to and anchor to settle matters.

The King James Bible is keyed to most concordances. In an assembly all present should read from the same version to avoid confusion. If you like another translation us it you want but when we assemble, all should have the same word and the King James Bible has stood the test of time.

So when you look at a Greek word and it's 5 definitions in English, how do you decide which definition to go with?

My NASB is so worn out that the pages are falling out..so I'll have to do something soon to replace it...

Here is a great Greek source for scriptures..breaks the scripture it down and we just have to put in the scripture reference in at the top and we are good to go...great on-line resource...I'm sure you have a good one too...

Luke 17:21 Interlinear: nor shall they say, Lo, here; or lo, there; for lo, the reign of God is within you.'

99.9 percent of the time context tells us which one to use.

Amen..

I find that the Holy Spirit illuminates the scriptures and that brings the truth of it out. The scripture can not for a lot of things be interpreted by the natural mind...and for some things it can..we need the Spirit to quicken the word to our hearts to know the difference....just my opinion..

99.9 percent of the time context tells us which one to use.

So you decide which to use based on context. Do you not see that makes you the final authority on what God has said?
No, it makes God the final authority, He wrote the book, and we should interpret any word in the context of what he wrote it. Not of our own.

it is those who take a verse out of context. and use whatever word they deem fits their belief who make it their own authority..

ummm....really not wanting to be rude here, but do you understand what the word 'context' means?

it means to gain understanding from whatever else leads up to and away from the focus of anything...conversation and certainly scripture included

for example, if I take YOUR words OUT of context, I will be putting a DIFFERENT meaning on them then what you had actually intended

in the same way, if a person takes a verse OUT of context...that is OUT of the framework of understanding that defines it, a different meaning can be placed upon it

in fact, that is usually the reason people take a verse out of context...they want to prove THEIR point or understanding to the detriment of or ignoring of, what the verse is actually stating

disclaimer: simply explaining the word context...please do not take my words out of context!
