We are saved by faith alone, but living faith works by love. (Galatians 5:6)

Not so......study the KJV Bible.
Faith without works is dead.
Not of works alone.

You get it yet or do you need more quotes?

Sins are cleansed through faith alone in salvation. Sins are cleansed through confession of sin after salvation. Every Baptist i've ever met believes this way, and I've been a baptist for going on 34 years. There may be fringe baptists that believe otherwise, but it would be a very. very, very small minority, if any at all.

Not per 1611 KJV scriptures.

No way.

Your comments are so unusual I spoke with several baptists...not so.

If that is your way.......you have wasted 34 years.

We are to learn from this that we must have Christ, we cannot be righteous without Him. Some say we are to learn we are hopeless sinners, that it means Christ was wrong when Christ told us to repent of sin for we can't. That is NOT the conclusion we are to come to for we are righteous through Christ.

When we accept Christ in our hearts we accept we belong to Christ. We cannot belong to sin, wanting sin in our life, and want Christ in our life at the same time. We are to repent of sin and work for Christ. We are to follow Christ.

Nowhere in the Bible does it say not of works alone. I like what Luther said. “ We are saved by faith alone, but faith is never alone”.

Hearts purified by faith. Acts 15:9
sin cleansed by confession. 1 John 1:9.

If they don’t agree with this, they don’t know their own denomination. “The Baptist Faith and Message” agrees with me, every Baptist rule of faith that I know of agrees with me, and most important the Bible teaches this.

Read the book Baptist faith and message if you want to know what most Baptist’s believe.

The only way one can repent of sin in the sense that they turn from my evil way and walk straight is if God changes theirheart. So repentance is turning to God, who then purifies your heart, then because of God’s work you are able to walk in His ways progressively growing in holiness. . For He writes His Law on our hearts.

If I had to give up my sinful life by the power of the flesh, I would never have come to Jesus. I turned to Him in simple faith, He changed me, and it was what He did in me that changed my external behavior.

He took away my old lives and gave me a new love. Otherwise, I would never have turned away from the sin that I loved above all else.

“…(Regeneration) is a change of heart, wrought by the Holy Spirit through conviction of sin, to which the sinner responds in repentance towards God and faith in the Lord Jesus. Repentance and faith are inseperable experiences of Grace. “. (Baptist Faith and Message)

So faith and repentance are a response to a change of heart wrought by the Spirit of God. That is Baptist doctrine.

God justifies the ungodly. Romans 4:5. This would not be true if we had to clean ourselves up before God justified us. God justifies us and purifies us by faith.

Tit 3:3, For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another.
Tit 3:4, But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared,
Tit 3:5, Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
Tit 3:6, Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour;
Tit 3:7, That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

Tit 3:8, This is a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou affirm constantly, that they which have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men.

Tit 3:14, And let ours also learn to maintain good works for necessary uses, that they be not unfruitful.

The preponderance of what your verses say is that we are saved by the Grace of God apart from works, and that any works that follow are results of the washing of regeneration and the renewing of the Holy Spirit.

So "the only way to repent of sin" is to repent of sin! Ir is done through Christ, but the bottom line is to repent.

Of course.

I never said repentance is not necessary. But repentance is not a work, it is a response. Just as faith is not a work, it is a response. So it is all of Grace, not of works, lest any man should boast

This thread is about works, right? How did we manage to confuse repentance with works? I haven’t read all the posts, so I’m not sure.

Sir, no work can secure salvation except for the work Christ did on our behalf.

I see repentance as more of an effect of the Grace of God than a work. I do not categorize repentance as a work, especially not in the sense that Paul and others use the word “works”

Some say we are to learn we are hopeless sinners, that it means Christ was wrong when Christ told us to repent of sin for we can't. Regarding 1 John 1:8-10. When we accept Christ in our hearts we accept we belong to Christ. We cannot belong to sin, wanting sin in our life, and want Christ in our life at the same time. We are to repent of sin and work for Christ. We are to follow Christ.
All of these (accept, work, follow) are responses to God’s Grace. They do not earn God’s Grace, they are appropriate responses to God’s Grace, Grace which is freely given and presently possessed by the believer.

When we confess our sins, we have the promise that God will not only forgive our sins, but that He will also cleanse us from all unrighteousness. It is this dual work of forgiveness and cleansing that make it possible for us to overcome sin and work for Christ.
