Zech 1:5 . .Where are your forefathers now? And the prophets, do they
live forever?

My own father is gone, and the great preacher Billy Graham; he's gone too.
My favorite rock and roll guitar player during the years I was a teen-ager
was Chuck Berry. He's gone. When I was a sophomore in high school, me
and a buddy went to see "The Blob" starring a rather unknown actor at the
time named Steve McQueen. He's gone. My eldest brother entered the
Catholic priesthood and anon became a Friar. He's gone.

There's hardly a day goes by without someone passing away that at one
time was very important to me; a constant reminder that nobody lives
forever and neither will I. At my current age of 77, I'll be passing away not
too long from now. Most of my life has already been lived and I'm in the
home stretch. When I was a youngster, the horizon seemed forever far
away; but now, looking at my wasting body, it seems I'm walking on the
horizon's edge.

I would like it very much if my friends, associates, and loved ones down in
Hades were allowed visitor days in the afterlife because after they're
transferred to the lake of fire depicted at Rev 20:11-15, I may never get to
be with them ever again.

Christians are sometimes asked how they can possibly be happy in Heaven
while aware that their loved ones are imprisoned in an eternity of suffering.
Well; Rev 21:4 predicts there will neither sorrow nor tears in the future
cosmos, apparently made possible by starting over from scratch and leaving
all else behind, including memories of the past.

Rev 21:5 . . He who was seated on the throne said: I am making
everything new! Then he said: Write this down, for these words are
trustworthy and true.

In a story told at Luke 16-19-31, the beggar Lazarus died and was carried
by angels to the afterlife. Curiously, the rich man's transportation isn't
specified.

One of the most disturbing scenes I've yet to observe in a Hollywood movie
occurs in "GHOST" starring Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore. When someone
marked for the wrong side of the afterlife passes away, these eerie
phantoms emerge, having the appearance of black oily smoke, uttering
awful moans, and drag their panic-stricken prey down into the ground.

I don't know if that's how the rich man in Luke's story was transported, but
if so; I can well imagine just how shocking and horrifying it must've been for
him at death to suddenly be able to see menacing spirit creatures
surrounding him with looks on their faces that could only convey but one
unmistakable intent; and I suspect those sinister beings had been hovering
around that poor man and stalking him every day and night of his entire life
without him knowing it.

Spirits have the advantage of stealth. They're invisible to the naked eye and
as silent as the void. They cannot be detected with scientific instruments like
Xrays, Cat Scans, MRIs, or Geiger counters. They are tasteless, odorless,
and take up no space. They can't be bumped into, nor sensed, nor held
check by locked doors, closed windows, nor high walls. And to top that off,
they are able with tamper with a human's mind and body in ways too
disturbing to contemplate.

Matt 5:8 . . Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.

A rough-hewn definition of "pure in heart" is when someone is the same on
the inside as they are on the outside; which is just the opposite of
dissembling; defined as: to put on a false appearance, i.e. conceal facts,
intentions, or feelings under some pretense.

Dissembling is a very common form of dishonesty which is practiced by just
about everybody at one time or another. Most of us do not always want
others to know what we are actually thinking and/or feeling about certain
things. The very opposite of that is transparency, which most of us want
from others, but prefer not to reciprocate with transparency of our own.

Here's a really good example of someone pure in heart.

"When Jesus saw Nathanael approaching, he said of him, "Here is a true
Israelite, in whom there is nothing false." (John 1:47)

Jesus was pure in heart too.

"No deceit was found in his mouth." (1Pet 2:22)

I think we may safely assume there are no exceptions to the sixth beatitude,
i.e. no one is exempt; sincerity and forthrightness aren't optional with God;
they're mandatory.

"Who may ascend into the hill of The Lord? And who may stand in His holy
place? He who has . . a pure heart . . he shall receive a blessing from The
Lord." (Ps 24:3-5)

I obtain quite a bit of useful information from YouTube; for example how to
replace a microwave oven's motor, resolve a computer issue, and/or adjust
an electric guitar's intonation.

I also tour the world with YouTube, visiting amazing man-made wonders and
natural wonders too. I will likely never travel and get to see those wonders
for myself as they really are before I'm dead; but out ahead is coming a
one-thousand year era on Earth wherein I've no doubt there will be plenty of
opportunity to see everything in the next life that I missed in this one.

Rev 20:6 . . Blessed and holy are those who have part in the first
resurrection. The second death has no power over them, but they will be
priests of God and of Christ and will reign with him for a thousand years.

I suspect that God is keeping a massive, fully comprehensive library that can
satisfy all my curiosity-- an archive of information far exceeding the contents
of the great library of Alexandria. For example: how did the ancient
Egyptians build the pyramids? How did the people of Easter Island move
those massive stone heads into position? Is there an end to space; and if so,
what's on the other side? Things like that; but also nature's secrets too. How
did nature fashion those remarkable rock formations in Utah? Or carve out
the Grand Canyon?

There are many mysteries like those that I sincerely hope to find answers to
some day. But people in Hell won't be allowed access to God's library. They
will never get answers to their deepest questions about the cosmos; nor be
allowed to travel to all the exotic places on Earth that they missed in this life
before passing on to the next.

Another benefit to the coming era is safety. I will have nothing to fear from
the animal kingdom like I do now, and plus; those of us who make the cut
will be immortal; so we won't fear heights, nor speed, nor any other risk. I
love to explore, but don't like to explore places that might cost me my life,
lose an eye, or put me in a wheel chair. Well; in the future, I'll be able to
explore every corner of the globe to my heart's content in perfect safety and
thoroughly enjoy myself without worrying about hazards associated with the
journey like piranha, head hunters, frost bite, hypothermia, violent storms,
hijackers, terrorists, bandits, and/or shipwreck.

One thing that prevents many of us from touring the world is old age. Well,
diminished capacity will never again be a factor dictating what I can eat and
drink, were I can go, nor whether I can make it.

Rev 20:5-6 . . But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand
years were finished. This is the first resurrection. Blessed and holy is he that
hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power.

People in Hell are not only in terrible discomfort, but they're also missing out
on the pleasures of adventure, discovery, and exploration; which are three
very stimulating activities that, just about everybody I've ever met would
agree, make one's existence worthwhile.

Col 3:9-10 . . Do not lie to each other since you have taken off your old
self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed
in knowledge in the image of its Creator.

Humanity's original self began its created existence in the image of God
(Gen 1:26-27). In other words; Adam started off as an honest man. Clearly
then; dishonesty doesn't reflect the image of God, rather, it reflects the
Devil's image.

The Greek word translated "renewed" basically means to renovate; defined
by Webster's defines as: (1) to restore to a former better state (as by
cleaning, repairing, or rebuilding), and (2) to restore to life, vigor, or
activity, i.e. revive.

The word appears in only one other place in the entire New Testament at
2Cor 4:16, which says:

"Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed
day by day."

Sometimes renovation requires demolition and beginning all over again from
scratch, In other words: total regeneration.

The Greek word translated "knowledge" basically refers to recognition, i.e.
acknowledgement, viz: discernment.

Reconstruction of one's innermost being-- especially the conscience --is
essential because humanity's intuitive knowledge of what's acceptable and
what's unacceptable is unreliable due to the forbidden fruit incident
portrayed in the third chapter of Genesis.

This relates to one of the tragedies of Hell. People down there never gave
God an opportunity to overhaul their spiritual condition; so now they're no
better as persons in the afterlife than they were in this life. After all is said
and done-- after the big judgment of Rev 20:11-15 is completed, and the
new cosmos of Rev 21:1 is up and running --Christ caps everything by
announcing:

"Let him who does wrong continue to do wrong; let him who is vile continue
to be vile." (Rev 22:10)

In other words: people who end up in the lake of fire will remain just as
much in need of renovation there as they were here.

Matt 22:36-40 . . Master, which is the great commandment in the law?
Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and
with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great
commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor
as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

The Greek verb for "love" in that passage is agapao (ag-ap-ah'-o) which
doesn't necessarily imply either affection and/or fondness. It's just as much
about the way we treat our fellow men as our personal feelings about them.
This is the kind of love that we ought to be extending to everyone-- friend,
foe, and stranger alike. It's the very same love that Jesus taught in Matt
5:44 which reads:

"You have heard that it was said: You shall love your neighbor, and hate
your enemy. But I say to you, love your enemies,"

In other words; you don't especially have to like your neighbors and your
enemies, but you do have to be courteous, kind, charitable, tolerant,
patient, diplomatic, tactful, gentle, reasonable, fair, deferent, cordial, genial,
affable, sociable, helpful, thoughtful, sympathetic, considerate, and
cooperative, etc. And of course those all apply to the way that people
associate with God too because the same Greek verb is used of loving God
as loving one's neighbors and enemies.

The above tells me that quite a few people are on the road to Hell simply
because their manners are uncivil, and insufferable, with both God and Man,
viz: they not only aren't nice to their fellow men, but they aren't even nice
to God-- they don't care about marginalizing Him, tuning Him out, insulting
Him, chafing Him, and/or hurting His feelings. In other words: the most
important of all the commandments bounces off their thick skulls like a
banana thrown at a Russian tank.

I was christened an infant into the Roman Catholic Church in 1944, and
eventually attended catechism to complete First Holy Communion and
Confirmation.

My siblings are Catholic, my mother was Catholic, my eldest brother entered
the priesthood and made it to Friar before passing away in May 2018 of
cancer. My wife is a former Catholic, her dad was Catholic, his wife was
Catholic, my aunt and uncle were Catholics, and my wife's cousins are all in
the Church; one of them is qualified to teach Catechism.

I was loyal to Rome up until I was 24, then one day I was approached by a
Conservative Baptist minister who asked me if I was prepared for Christ's
return.

Well; I must've been either asleep or absent the day that the nuns talked
about Jesus coming back because that man's question was the very first
time in my whole life that I can remember somebody telling me.

My initial reaction was alarm because I instinctively knew that were I called
on the carpet for a face-to-face with Jesus, it would not go well for me
because I had a lot to answer for. Well; I don't like being made to feel afraid
so I became indignant and demanded to know why Jesus would come back.
That's when I found out for the very first time that it was in the plan for
Christ to take over the world. (I had somehow missed that in catechism
too.)

Then the minister asked me if I was going to heaven. Well; of course I had
no clue because Catholics honestly don't know what to expect when they
pass away. I was crossing my fingers while in the back of my mind dreading
the worst.

Then the man said; "Don't you know that Jesus died for your sins?"

Well; I had been taught in catechism that Jesus died for the sins of the
world; that much I knew; but honestly believed all along that he had been a
victim of unfortunate circumstances. It was a shock to discover that Jesus'
trip to the cross was deliberate, and that his Father was thinking of me when
His son passed away, viz: my sins were among the sins of the world that
Jesus took to the cross with him.

At that very instant-- scarcely a nanosecond --something took over in my
mind as I fully realized, to my great relief, that heaven was no longer out of
reach, rather, well within my grasp!

That was an amazing experience. In just the two or three minutes of
conversation with that Baptist minister, I obtained an understanding of
Jesus' crucifixion that many tedious years of catechism classes had somehow
failed to get across. Consequently, my confidence in the Roman Catholic
Church was shattered like a bar of peanut brittle candy dropped on the
sidewalk from the tippy top of the Chrysler building.

Long story short; I eventually went with that man to his church and, side by
side with him and a couple of elders, knelt at the rail down front and prayed
a really simple, naive prayer that went something like this;

"God, I know I'm a sinner. I would like to take advantage of your son's
death"

My prayer wasn't much to brag about; but it was the smartest sixteen words
I'd ever spoken up to that time.

Matt 10:32 . .Whoever acknowledges me before men, I will also
acknowledge him before my Father in heaven.

John 18:37-38 . . Everyone who is of the truth hears my voice. Pilate said
to him: What is truth?

Pilate's question was meaningful in his day because ancient philosophers
perpetually discussed and debated the nature of truth without ever achieving
a unanimous decision about it.

Well; one of Webster's definitions of "truth" is: a state of being the case; viz:
fact; which Webster's defines as the quality of being actual. In other words:
truth is the way it is; viz: truth is reality as opposed to speculation, fantasy,
opinion, error, inaccuracy, inexactness, theory, imagination, and false
impressions, etc.

Is this the real life?
Is this just fantasy?
Caught in a landslide,
No escape from reality.

Matt 8:11-12 . . I say unto you, That many shall come from the east and
west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in the
kingdom of heaven. But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into
outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

"children of the kingdom" is thought by some to speak of the Jews. Well; for
sure, not all of them will permitted access to the kingdom predicted in the Ol
Testament. According to Ezek 20:33-38 a number of them will be culled
from the herd and sent elsewhere.

Outer darkness is again spoken of in Matt 22:13 and Matt 25:30

It appears, from comparison of the available data, that "outer darkness" isn't
a location, rather, a state of mind characterized by the deepest possible
feelings of anguish and grief associated with loss.

It's akin to the day that God announced to Moses' people they were going to
have to stay in that awful Sinai outback until they were dead. They missed
their opportunity to enter the land of milk and honey and there was no way
to regain it.

The people must've been pretty upset over that; no doubt they had all been
joyfully looking forward to a new life over there; and there was no use in
praying about it because God had made up His mind.

I've only experienced deep personal grief associated with irreversible loss
but one time; that was when my No.1 nephew passed away suddenly of
natural causes at the age of 51. I had held him in my arms upon returning
home from three years in the Army when he was only a couple of weeks old.

News of his passing has thus far been the only time in my 77 years that I
actually clenched my teeth, sobbing out of control, and choking, while
clinging to a handrail in the front room to keep from losing my balance and
falling to the floor.

Fortunately my wife was out on an errand at the time or she would've been
very frightened as she has never seen me in such a state even once during
our 41+ years of marriage.

The criminal records associated with the great white throne event depicted
at Rev 20:11-15 likely won't be used only to condemn people's actions, but
also to prove that the people themselves are not the kind of folk with whom
God prefers to associate.

For example; God isn't comfortable with dishonesty. So if the records show
that someone was deceptive and/or told a number lies during their lifetime,
then they will be barred from heaven; not only for their dishonesty, but also
because they are capable of dishonesty.

Prov 6:16-19 . . There are six things The Lord hates, seven that are
detestable to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent
blood, a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into
evil, a false witness who pours out lies, and a man who stirs up dissension
among brothers.

Ps 15:1-3 . . Lord, who may dwell in your sanctuary? Who may live on your
holy hill? He whose walk is blameless and who does what is righteous, who
speaks the truth from his heart and has no slander on his tongue, who does
his neighbor no wrong and casts no slur on his fellowman, who despises a
vile man but honors those who fear The Lord, who keeps his oath even when
it hurts, who lends his money without usury and does not accept a bribe
against the innocent. He who does these things will never be shaken.

FAQ: The New Testament says that the lost will be put to death in a lake of
brimstone. (Rev 20:11-15.) If that's so, then why is it commonly believed
that they will suffer till time without end? Don't people have to be alive in
order to experience suffering?

A: People's body and soul are slated for destruction in hell fire (Matt 10:28)
but I have yet to encounter a New Testament passage verifying that people's
consciousness will be destroyed.

FAQ: How can people be conscious when they're dead? Isn't death eo ipso a
state of unconsciousness?

A: I have never been dead so I cannot speak from experience about that
condition. All I know about existence after death is what I read in the Bible.

Human life consists of three components: body, soul, and spirit. Matt 10:28
speaks of destroying people's body and soul while saying nothing about their
spirit component. Genesis 2:7 strongly suggests that the spirit is where
human consciousness resides; and Luke 16:19-31 suggests that one's spirit
is transferrable to an afterlife existence.

A rich man, in the story located at Luke 16:19-31, passed away and was
buried. (Luke 26:22)

Though his corpse lay in repose; the man himself is depicted in the afterlife
fully conscious and capable of intelligent thought and conversation; with his
memories intact, with eyes that see, a tongue that needs water, a nervous
system sensitive to temperature, and an emotional state capable of anxiety.

That all runs counter to passages in the Old Testament that seem to imply
that people lose their sentient characteristics when they pass away. How do
we deal with this apparent discrepancy between the Old Testament and the
New?

Well, first off we need to deal with the fact that:

1» Christ is God's final word to mankind (John 3:31-34 & Heb 1:1-2)

2» He's greater than even Moses (Heb 3:3)

3» He's the incarnated voice of God (John 1:1 & John 1:14)

4» He's smarter than Solomon (John 3:31 & Matt 12:42 & Col 2:3)

5» He was involved in the creation of the cosmos with all of its forms of life,
matter, and energy (John 1:1-3, Heb 3:3-4)

6» He has actually seen the afterlife for himself; therefore knowing from
experience what he's talking about rather than something he read in a book.
(Mark 1:21-22)

From all that, I think that we can safely conclude that Christ's teachings
trump everybody else's teachings. So then, when it appears that the Old
Testament contradicts Christ, I strongly suggest, for safety's sake, that we
align ourselves with Christ.

Matt 17:5 . .This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.
Listen to him.

John 3:34 . . For he is sent by God. He speaks God's words, for God's
Spirit is upon him without measure or limit

John 3:36 . . He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he
that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on
him.

God's free will trumps everybody else's free will. This fact is very evident in
the confrontation that Jehovah forced between Himself and the Egyptian
monarch holding Moses' people captive.

"For the scripture says to Pharaoh: For this very purpose I raised you up, to
demonstrate My power in you, and that My name might be proclaimed
throughout the whole earth. So then He has mercy on whom He desires, and
He hardens whom He desires." (Rom 9:17-18)

That's a reference to Exodus 9:13-17 where it says:

"Then Jehovah said to Moses: Rise up early in the morning and stand before
Pharaoh and say to him, "Thus says the Jehovah, the God of the Hebrews;
let My people go, that they may serve Me. For this time I will send all My
plagues on you and your servants and your people, so that you may know
that there is no one like Me in all the earth.

. . . For if by now I had put forth My hand and struck you and your people
with pestilence, you would then have been cut off from the earth. But,
indeed, for this cause I have allowed you to remain, in order to show you My
power, and in order to proclaim My name through all the earth. Still you
exalt yourself against My people by not letting them go." (Ex 9:13-17)

There's some interesting information tucked away in Jehovah's proclamation.
The most notable is that He could've simply wiped the Egyptians off the map
with just one miracle and been done with it. But instead, Jehovah chose to
whittle them down piece by piece, a little at a time, and just to make sure
His intentions succeeded; Jehovah deliberately, and willfully, strengthened
Pharaoh's resolve to resist and not give in.

Someone, somewhere, is sure to demand: How can God condemn Pharaoh's
stubborn will to resist when it was God himself who strengthened the man to
do so?

The thing is; Pharaoh was already condemned for refusing Moses' initial
request. From that point on he was dead meat-- Jehovah could say "I own
you" and it became His sovereign prerogative to do with the man as He
pleased because God's free will trumps everybody else's free will.

Now the situation is this: there are people out and about who have been
presented an intelligent gospel message, and turned from it. Those people
have put themselves at risk of God himself deliberately, and willfully,
stiffening their resolve to the point where they will never be able to accept
the gospel-- ever! Thus their destiny in Hell becomes a sealed fate.

"It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God." (Heb 10:31)

Many years ago it occurred to me that even if I was able to force myself to
be pious enough during this life to qualify for Heaven; I was pretty sure I
couldn't keep it up for eternity. Sooner or later my true colors would show
themselves and I'd get evicted, viz: cast into outer darkness.

So I decided to forget about Heaven and just go about my life as usual;
resigned to expect the worst when I passed away.

FAQ: Am I allowed to have an opinion?

A: Yes.

REPLY : Well then; the creator depicted in Bible knew ahead of time, by
means of precognition, that the human life He was about to create would all
have to die because of just one man's sin,

. . . and the human life He was about to create would become so bad that
He would have to exterminate most of it in a global deluge,

. . . and the human life He was about to create would be suffering with
diseases, poverty, wars, famines, and oppression,

. . . and much of the human life that He was about to create would end up in
Hell, then later on restored to their bodies only to be executed by a mode of
death akin to a foundry worker falling into a kettle of molten iron,

. . . and proven Himself to be quite capable of walking over people's bones
to get what He wants,

. . . and to top it off: has the chutzpa to advertise Himself as a god of love,
concern, compassion, and sympathy.

I can't respect the creator depicted in the Bible because he's cruel, fiendish,
and criminally insane.

RESPONSE: So in your honest opinion the creator depicted in the Bible is a
tyrannical despot far more dangerous than Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot, Saddam
Hussein, and/or North Korea's Kim Jong-un?

REPLY : YES!

RESPONSE: Well then, it appears to me that you test positive for the so
called fallen nature.

Rom 8:7 . .The sinful mind is hostile to God.

FAQ: What if I was born dishonest?

A: You mean like this?

Ps 58:3 . . The wicked are estranged from the womb; these who speak lies
go astray from birth.

Then I suggest you take advantage of whatever time you have remaining to
begin preparing yourself for the worst when you pass on.

Rev 21:8 . . . All liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire and
brimstone, which is the second death.

Rev 21:1-3 . . Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first
heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any
sea. I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven
from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband.

Rev 21:27 . . Nothing impure will ever enter it, nor will anyone who does
what is deceitful,

Rev 22:15 . . Outside is everyone who loves and practices falsehood.

Those passages are really bad news for natural-born liars because dishonesty and deception
are pretty much the only way of life they know.

FAQ: What's on the "outside" referred to in Rev 22:15?

A: I suggest that outside refers to banishment, i.e. exile to the sum of all fears.

Rev 21:8 . . . All liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire and
brimstone, which is the second death.

HADES UPDATE: 133 days have elapsed since beginning the thread. If the
figures in post No.1 are in the ball park, then something like 8,299,200
arrivals have checked into the fiery sector of Hades since July 03, 2021

FAQ: What if Adam had eaten some fruit from the tree of life prior to trying
the forbidden fruit?

A: The tree of life doesn't work like a vaccine, rather, it's a remedy;
portrayed in the Bible as a treatment for whatever ails you. (Rev 22:2)

In other words; under normal circumstances Adam had no use for the tree of
life at first because he was already in perfect health. Adam was created
impervious to death; an advantage he lost by tampering with the forbidden
fruit when he was instructed not to.

• Gen 2:16-17 . . And the Lord God commanded the man: You are free to
eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the
knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die.

Well; Adam didn't drop dead to the floor when he ate the forbidden fruit. In
point of fact he continued to live 800 more years beyond the birth of his son
Seth. (Gen 5:4)

So the death that Adam underwent due to tasting the forbidden fruit began
with his loss of perfect health, i.e. Adam's body became infected with
mortality which, if left untreated, is 100% fatal. Mortality is a living death
that gradually broke Adam down to the point where his body could no longer
keep going.

The tree of life wouldn't prevent Adam from contracting mortality, but the
tree would've cured it and restored him to perfect health, but alas he wasn't
permitted to take advantage of it.

FAQ: Human sacrifices are not allowed in the covenant that Moses' people
agreed upon with God in the books of Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and
Deuteronomy. Since Jesus was a Jew whose religion was governed by that
covenant, then how was it legal for him to die for the sins of the world?

A: The laws of God are not retroactive (Deut 5:2-4, Rom 4:15, Rom 5:13,
and Gal 3:17) This is extremely important because Jesus was designated,
and scheduled, to die on a cross prior to God creating even a single atom for
the current cosmos. (1Pet 1:18-21 & Rev 13:8)
