The Last shall be first
Luke 13:23 Then said one unto him, Lord, are there few that be saved?
This is a reference to the verses prior to this in this chapter. First we hear that you must repent or else we will likewise perish. Pilate had mixed their blood with their sacrifices when he killed them. We need to open our eyes, we are witnessing these sacrifices all around us. When some guy goes into an Elementary school, through a door that was left open and then shoots it up while the police sit outside, that is a human sacrifice. Likewise the tower of Siloam fell on 18 and killed them. 911 was a human sacrifice of 3,000 and in exchange for that sacrifice they got a blank check to build drones and robots and train their AI. The world lies in the evil one and we need to repent of this world and come out of darkness and into the light and see what is going on. Then we go to a parable about a fig tree, another parable unique to the book of Luke. In this story the Fig tree is barren. The tree is supposed to bear fruit after three years, but it is barren. So he wants to chop it down and the guy in charge of the farm asks him to give him one more year. He'll dung around the tree and if it still doesn't bear fruit, then cut it down. Olive trees would produce oil, and grape vines would produce wine, and wheat produces grain. The believers are likened to these, but a fig tree reminds us of fallen man. We are sinners in the Lord's field and we need to bear fruit. Then we come to a woman who for 18 years was bent over with an infirmity. Jesus likens her to being tied up in the stall unable to go out and eat and drink. This is what the doctrine of the sabbath is doing to the saints. It binds them so they cannot do anything. For example, I met with a church where they taught the Bible in great detail, verse by verse. We would spend twenty days a year in trainings with three meetings a day going through the Bible verse by verse. That was in addition to all the other meetings we went to throughout the year. But we were not allowed to write any books ourself. One brother was excommunicated because he published books. We also were not allowed to do any charitable work other than supporting the ministry of "the apostle". Some saints bear fruit by working in a soup kitchen, we were not allowed to do that. Some bear fruit by ministering the word, we weren't allowed to do that either. The only thing you could do was to repeat the word spoken by "the apostle". That is like this woman who has been bound like an ox in the stall unable to go out and eat and drink. Satan bound this woman for 18 years. Satan wants to keep the Lord's servants from serving Him and bearing fruit. Then the Lord explains with two parables. The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard plant. It is supposed to be a small herb that repels pests and is good for food. Instead it grows into this giant tree where all these evil birds live that steal the word of God from the believers. This is why I say avoid a church that is a giant tree with a whole lot of full time workers being paid. A healthy church is much more like a small, humble herb that still packs a punch at repelling pests. The second parable is that these ones who are preparing the food for the saints to eat are hiding leaven in the food. That is their special rules like the church I was at. Imagine telling believers they can't publish the word? Jesus called us to be witnesses, who would be so arrogant as to countermand that command?
That is the context of saying "few that be saved". He just covered just about everyone from government officials, priests, full time church workers and church members.
And he said unto them, 24 Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able.
You have to strive to enter in. Satan is going to throw everything he has at you to keep you from entering in. It is a narrow way. There is such a thing as the sin of ignorance. All of us committed that prior to being saved. Then we must strive to have our eyes enlightened. After that we must strive to bear fruit. Remove the stones out of your heart, cut off the weeds, stay away from the wayside. Strive for water in the word, and for the fertilizer, and for the light from the word. You can strive for fellowship, for spiritual lessons, reading spiritual books, praying, singing hymns, etc. The only way you will be able to enter in is if the Spirit indwells you and fills you. You can not do this in your own strength, if you try you will not be able.
Think about what I have written in these six books. There is no way that any denomination would print this. No way that any Christian book store would take this. I have said things in these books that condemn all of organized Christianity. It is not popular. They would hate me.
25 When once the master of the house is risen up, and hath shut to the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open unto us; and he shall answer and say unto you, I know you not whence ye are: 26 Then shall ye begin to say, We have eaten and drunk in thy presence, and thou hast taught in our streets.
In other words we attended church. We sat in the pews listening to the sermon.
27 But he shall say, I tell you, I know you not whence ye are; depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity.
No personal relationship. But not just that, no awareness. If you are trying to bear fruit you are constantly aware of your failings and shortcomings. You are aware of the rocks in your heart and weeds choking the word, and how harmful the wayside is to your farm. You are aware of how the birds roosting in the big trees of organized Christianity are trying to steal the word and censor your ministry and you know that all their rules and traditions are binding you so that you can't do the work in the field. But they don't know this, they think that being a Christian is simple, come once a week, sit in the pew for an hour and that is that.
28 There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when ye shall see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets, in the kingdom of God, and you yourselves thrust out.
These are the ones who will be left behind in the tribulation.
29 And they shall come from the east, and from the west, and from the north, and from the south, and shall sit down in the kingdom of God.
There are people all over the world who are striving to enter the strait gate, but for the most part Christians are simply spectators in the pews.
30 And, behold, there are last which shall be first, and there are first which shall be last.
This is the point of the three gospels. Matthew is first, but then they shall be last, saved at the end of the seven year tribulation. Mark is the second gospel and they will be second, going through the first half of the tribulation. Luke is the last, but the ones in this gospel will be the first taken.
