This is an interesting read. I would be curious to hear your thoughts. (You can read the Wikipedia article and do some reading around the subject if you wish).

Hello ToastAndTea, welcome to the gay version of the Not By Works thread :) (inside joke ;):giggle:) Thank you for the link, and desiring to hear my thoughts on the matter. I have quite a few, though I am at work now, and it is our busiest season. I will try to organize and post them to you later as time allows :) God's Word will not return void. God bless you!

Generally speaking it’s a whole lotta jumping to conclusions in this thread. It’s a good idea reading a post thoroughly before chopping it up.

For some reason straw men have taken possession of the discussion. Why is that? Is it because we are not able to comprehend what others are saying? Or is it because we believe ourselves to be superior in our faith? Are we being too prideful?

I'm sorry you are offended by the term drunk which is in the Bible the word alcoholic is not. yes,I do know the difference and I know God is the one who heals one from such a desire and disease. Alcoholism is sometimes known as alcohol addiction or alcohol dependence. which I have been set free from.
No! A drunk is someone who get's intoxicated an alcoholic may stay sober for life, or the rest of it. Alcoholism is an addiction like many others. Addiction is a disease but Alcoholism was recognize first, 1953 by the AMA. Staying abstinent is not the cure, it's part of the treatment and recovery. It's the GOAL. Jesus is the way.

salvation from what?

You said

"I think alcoholics, drug addicts, fornicators, gays, people corrupted by power etc cannot be cured. "

if that is true then they are not saved in context to salvation which means saved healed and delivered.

What you said was not salvation.
Okay, I don’t get what you are talking about anymore...

I can’t make you understand, I think...

Je ne sais pas comment dire ça en anglais...sorry

She was talking in the common term not the biblical one an alcoholic must refrain from doing what common people do, Drink alcohol and a sex addict once the recognize and admit to it must repent also. Delivered and cured have two different meanings. I thought you were some kind of educator. Why do you have so much trouble understanding common 12th grade English?

I know full well Teen Challenges track record, I've listened to Wilkerson, in person and I've Met Nicky Cruse. It works because they put Christ back into the program. FYI, I read the bible every day. And I trust it more than the Sun.
I too have seen both brother Wilkerson and Nicky Cruz. Christ works yes amen.

Rick Warren is not thr author, he merely wrote the forward. It became a hit and he commercialized it. I am not a follower of men and certainly not him. There's over 200 pages of solid Christian Recovery materiel her plus some swag in the back. I bought mine used at a reasonable price too.
Just the association with the name is enough to make every red flag in my body to rise full staff concerning the book. LOL

Twelve Steps

The Twelve Steps And Their Biblical Comparisons

1. We admitted we were powerless over our addictions and compulsive behaviours. That our lives had become unmanageable.
I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. (Romans 7:18 )

2. Came to believe that a power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.
For it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose.
(Philippians 2:13 )

3. Made a decision to turn our lives and our wills over to the care of God.
Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God–this is your spiritual act of worship.
(Romans 12:1 )

4. Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.
Let us examine our ways and test them, and let us return to the LORD.
(Lamentations 3:40 )

5. Admitted to God, to ourselves, and to another human being, the exact nature of our wrongs.
Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. (James 5:16 )

6. Were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character.
Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up. (James 4:10)

7. Humbly asked Him to remove all our shortcomings.
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:9)

8. Made a list of all persons we had harmed and became willing to make amends to them all.
Do to others as you would have them do to you. (Luke 6:31)

9. Made direct amends to such people whenever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.
Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you; leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to your brother; then come and offer your gift. (Matthew 5:23-24)

10. Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong, promptly admitted it.
So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don’t fall!
(1 Corinthians 10:12)

11. Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and power to carry that out.
Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly. (Colossians 3:16)

12. Having had a spiritual experience as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to others, and practice these principles in all our affairs. Brothers, if someone is caught in a sin, you who are spiritual should restore him gently. But watch yourself, or you also may be tempted. (Galatians 6:1 )
– All scripture quoted from the New International Version.

Ok, thank you for your insult I'm not the one who thinks salvation is different than what the Bible says it is contextually. You think not doing something make one saved? FYI the Biblical term is the comment term in a Christian chat. Delivered = set free cured = healed
There now you have been educated.

Yeah kinda like Trump University.
Never been there.

I must admit, I too am confused with some of the rhetoric here.
When a person becomes born again and receives a new nature, and no longer has the desire for their former addiction...do you refer to them as 'delivered' or 'cured'?

My question would be, "Why have another program?" Is not Calvary, the Holy Spirit working through His Word, and prayer in the context of His Church (and all the giftings in it), sufficient? This seems to be a brainchild of a CEO turning the Church into a corporation. More programs, more agendas, plans, checklists etc., Whatever happened to crying out in true repentance and faith? That was my testimony.

Jesus warned about casting out demons. >

43When an unclean spirit comes out of a man, it passes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it. 44Then it says, ‘I will return to the house I left.’ On its arrival, it finds the house vacant, swept clean and put in order. 45Then it goes and brings with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and dwell there; and the final plight of that man is worse than the first. So will it be with this wicked generation.”…

it is sad those who have religion and no freedom in Christ they have taken behavioral modification over relationship with Christ. They need the support and the addiction as an identity for an excuse to do what they want. IT is not if I drink but more of when I will drink.
That is why they identify with the addition instead of Christ.

it's the poor old circle of AA and ole Bob ( hopefully no one named Bob here) comes to the mic and says "I am an alcoholic, I have not had a drink in 25 years." "I hope I never have a relapse". Living the life of fear that Bob might one day fall back into being a drunkard(KJV) I do not call that hope joy or victory.

The Lord left us the plan to begin with. I am NOT AA. But I choose Both Christ first then follow the plan with the Lord in the lead. I try not to take charge but I have to do my share.
