Interesting thread!

I have free Canadian health care, and contrary to what your propaganda machines may have told you, it was started by a Baptist minister, Tommy Douglas who watched his father die of something curable because he didn't have any money to pay a doctor. Tommy Douglas comes in as FIRST among all Canadians in major surveys, because we value our universal health care that much. And Muslims have it too!

And it is GOOD health care - cradle to grave and any specialist or doctor you want. In any province! My sister had some kind of test for MS in BC and she lives in Ontario. It was paid for by her provincial plan, because all the provinces have to cover all Canadians.

But I didn't mean to talk about how my socialist state is better than your privatized state!

My DIL is American and has had no health care insurance unless my son was playing hockey and she was covered under his policy or in England, where they not only gave her free care, they delivered her baby and offered 6 weeks of a nurse coming to her home to help her adjust to a newborn.

She has applied for landed immigrant status in Canada, but our immigration department has been on strike for months and months and she has to wait for a year minimum, in the event the strike is settled because of the backlog. See, you Americans aren't the only ones held hostage to a strike.

My point is that she is going on Obamacare the minute it comes out in Jan. She is very excited to have health care coverage for the first time on her own. I know many Americans who are not covered. I also know the program has some real issues, with coverage and cost. So I am not blind and saying this is an ideal situation.

Just be aware there are people who are not covered, that are now covered. At least until she can become a landed immigrant. By the way, she does not have to ever become a Canadian to stay on Canadian health care the rest of her life. She is a proud American, and I doubt she will ever give up her citizenship. But she will have coverage when Obamacare comes into effect, or if our immigration department ever stops playing games with people.

I have free Canadian health care

No you do not. No health care is free, someone pays for it

''My point is that she is going on Obamacare the minute it comes out in Jan.''

Obamacare is NOT free health care. It forces you to have health insurance. If, you work. If, you want to be a responsible citizen and not expect to be taken care of. IF, you are an adult.

I grew up and left home and my life is on me. Not my parents. Not the government. You can sell yourself to the government store but thousands of people died in the Civil War to stop private ownership of slaves.

Now, it seems public ownership of slaves is acceptable.

Freedom, is hard. It means taking personal responsibility and...hardships. When the government says it will help you?

RUN RUN RUN.

The government is there only to control you. Yep you have ''free'' health care...poor quality and filtered through government decision making....and you are being controlled.

Tyranny always starts out like this.

I'd like to see that information so I can qualify it. One thing that will be slightly different is that the U.S. can print money which Greece cannot. So their will be currency devaluation occurring at the same time austerity is implemented if the politicians resort to simply printing money out of thin air when the ability to borrow and spend is finally curtailed because no one will lend us money anymore to spend on welfare, government sprawl, GWOT, etc...

I wish I had the name of the woman who is leaking all info about the Fed and some other areas. She actually was a lawyer for the world bankers, and she has done an interview which I have heard. She walked in these circles she is now considered a whistle blower. I will try hard to get her web site. She says Greece was the beginning. This thing is going down. They will do to America exactly like Greece. Greece was the fore runner to how they will do this economic crash.

Read this:

Les Leopold: Big Lie: America Doesn't Have #1 Richest Middle-Class in the World... We're Ranked 27th!

Look at the reasons for it. Only one reason on the list has to do with the lack of a government program causing poverty. There is an exception to your statement and it comes in the form of health care. Understand that here in the U.S. we pay much more than other industrialized countries for health care and get much less for our money in return.

The number one cause of poverty in the U.S. for Americans who were not previously impoverished is due to a lack of affordable health care. The number one cause of bankruptcy in the U.S. is due to a lack of affordable health care. The number one cause of small business failure in the U.S. for small businesses that are more than ten years old (note that new businesses have a high failure rate for the first five years) is due to the owner ending up in bankruptcy due to a lack of affordable health care. Illness strikes and we become impoverished and bankrupt.

Government programs cause poverty...why would I as a Christian support that?

A while ago Greece actually threw the non citizens out of the hospitals onto the streets because money was so tight they were running out of things like bandages and essential medicines. I heard Obama say that a 65 year old won't get the same level of care as a 25 year old so granny is out of luck! In Britain the National Health Service is a disgrace I could fill this page with horror stories, not from the newspapers but things that have happened to my family and friends. 6 months waiting list for radiation treatment for cancer because of the shortage of equipment, 18+ months waiting list for heart bypass surgery, filthy hospitals because there's not enough money for cleaning staff and nurses and doctors who have been brought in from other countries who have problems with the English language which has led to major mistakes. Former Prime Minister Gordon Brown apologized to the country for the state of the National Health Service which should give some indication how bad it is. It's going to be a train wreck here!

The number one cause for small business failure is a lack of health care....???????

How about taxation and regulation? How about poor business decisions?

That's absolutely ridiculous. You can find a study on anything, does not make it true.

Most americans had health care insurance. Most who do not have health insurance did not want it. That leaves about 12 million without health insurance in our nation......are you saying small business owners do not have health insurance and that is the number one reason for their business failure??

No one could believe that.

''Understand that here in the U.S. we pay much more than other industrialized countries for health care and get much less for our money in return.''

That's false. PAYING for health care and its cost are two completely different things. Just because the money does not come directly from your pocket does not mean its free or inexpensive. Filtering ANYTHING through the government with all of its buraeucracy always makes things more costly.

If you want health care costs to drop, do not destroy it by involving the government.

What do they do for hypochondriacs? Or Münchausen syndrome people? And I'm legitimately curious here, not being sarcastic.

To begrudge a few tax dollars from your account to save lives is pretty low. Im not even Christian and I think publically funded health care is an absolutely fantastic progression. I'd happily pay tax for it .... Oh wait .. i already do!

You're right, we are already taxed so people can gee free food, transportation, housing, cell phones, cash, daycare, education, State HEALTH INSURANCE, child birth, cleaning services, ect.

People CAN get insurance but they refuse to pay it. Now Those that had insurance because THEY WORK are seeing their premiums increase and benefits decline. Just so people can mooch off others.

The Affordable Care Act is an oxymoron. Prior to this law it would have cost me approximately $500 per month (almost a week's income) to purchase health insurance. Now I can purchase medical insurance for a little over $100 per month, but the annual deductible is soooo high that if I were to actually need any serious procedure in a given year it would still cost me over $500 per month once you factor in the deductible.

Neat Oncefallen. I like what you've done with my post. You managed to adjust it in a manner that kept the full meaning of my post yet modify an element that in hindsight was both unnecessary and undesirable. Your kung fu is good. :)

It's ok oncefallen. In the event you need a major procedure the government can now decide if you should have it or not. Since you probably wouldn't be able to pay it they can by law refuse to allow you to have that procedure. Sure, you could die because of this buts it's all ok. Euthanasia and genocide is ethical now thanks to Obama.

Yes but this way the medical providers are assured payment. Long after you are in bankruptcy and have lost everything they will still be getting paid. That's what it's all about. We're just cattle to the powers that be. Nothing more.

Then he will have no other choice but rely on the government for support. Government housing, foods stamps...etc. suddenly he is under their control. That is if they don't kill him first.

That's what the Democrats want because that way he'll be forced to be another Democrat voter to survive. Of course, the house of cards is going to start coming down in a few years. You just can't massive deficit spend like we are forever without it eventually degrading and then collapsing if they ride it all the way to the end of the line. Detroit, San Bernardino, etc... have already been through it. Wait until the entire country does.

And since the neocons that rule the Republican party are only fiscally conservative when they are out of power, that's probably where's going to go: the end of the line. Wait for it.

The next step will be him marching in a gay pride parade while getting psychiatric drugs for his "white guilt" as he burns the American flag at an atheist convention.
