I think there is a lot of truth to the idea that we can only change our world one person at a time. MOST of us don't have the ability, or the opportunity to make an "I have a dream" speech to thousands of people...

What we CAN do, like HoneyDew implied, is treat every person we come in contact with as a child of God. We need to see them as individuals, not as a part of a group of "them"...

As I have mentioned before, I have to seriously change my way of thinking, to seeing a non-English speaking Hispanic person as a person, instead as just another of the group of illegal aliens... that is a difficult thing to do, as we are indoctrinated daily to group people into categories, instead of seeing them as individual people.

Blacks, whites, illegals, Republicans, Democrats, rich folks, welfare folks... everyone pigeon-holed into a group of some kind.

Jesus didn't see groups.... he saw people....
Two problems:
1. Not everyone is a child of God. (Although we are told to love everyone, so that shouldn't really matter anyway.)
2. Jesus did see groups -- three groups. Tares/wolves. Wheat/sheep. Not-his/The World.

I just read an article that says the widow of the soldier is now saying that President Trump's words "made her cry".

I try to not be cynical about stories like this, but a couple of things stand out to me. Here we have a woman who lost her husband in combat, and the president calls her to offer condolences..... but she has a woman representative, who is a known Trump basher, listen in on the other line to hear what the President has to say?

The representative immediately goes public, castigating the President for what he said, and after a week or so of media outrage, the wife says that the President's comments "made her cry".....

This appears to me to be more of the work of the movement to attempt to remove President Trump from office...

While I truly feel sorry for the widow, and her family, I find it difficult to understand why she would have a representative "listen in" to condolences from the President.

This whole episode is beginning to appear to have been staged to have another reason to slam the President.

Everybody knows that Trump is brash, and his style of speaking is not the "measured tones" of a polished politician.

I wonder how long Abraham Lincoln (who WAS a polished politician) worked on his letter to Mrs. Bixby about the loss of her sons in the war.

Perhaps that is what the President should do, just write letters to all the survivors of fallen servicemen/women..... that way, nobody could attempt to read things into his "tone", or his "inflection", or any non-perfect statements of condolence.

As it is now, he's damned if he does, and damned if he doesn't..... all thanks to the national liberal propaganda machine that is the main stream media.
I'm befuddled. The widow puts the video on YouTube, and all is good. Two days later, someone is saying the conversation happened in a car. I saw the video. Either HUGE car with a sofa and draped windows, or two stories.

As for "she cried?"
A. Didn't see her do that in the video in the living room, but I was mighty impressed she didn't cry.
B. Personally, if hubby just died a little while ago, and anyone calls me for condolences, I'm going to cry. I can work up don't-cry when I have to, but I can't do it when I wasn't preparing for it. Wouldn't you if you're wife just died and then the President of the United States called? Just overwhelming emotions. So, duh now! She cried.

I also know the mayor of San Juan was thanking Trump for all the help he gave right after the second hurricane wiped the landscape out, and then two days later she was bashing him.

Methinks there are anarchists goons getting to these people in the background.

I agree... I'm not surprised that a widow would cry... that would be expected. As you said, especially when someone is offering condolences. I'm sure I would cry. It's simply odd that she wouldn't mention that she cried until after the media-created storm over "how insensitive he was with his comments to her"... even without saying it, she implied that his insensitive comments are what made her cry....

I think we should just be careful that we don't fall into the same pit that the media is in... making everything about race. In this story, the race of the widow, and the representative shouldn't matter at all.

What matters more, is the political leaning of the representative, because we don't really have any idea what the political leaning of the widow is/was. We all know how that political opportunists will move in quickly to twist a story to their political advantage... look at Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer.... they are totally shameless in their attempts at manipulating news stories to advance their cause. There are many others that do the same thing, but those two come to mind... along with Maxine Waters....

Anyway, when WE make race a defining part of this story, we are doing the same thing the media does... we are trying to divide the listeners along racial lines, instead of the more pertinent, and accurate, political lines.

It shouldn't be about race, but they are making it about race. They are pulling out the tired old race card. And people are getting tired of hearing it. Then it becomes an us vs them. Thats why I say the black community needs to be careful of hitching their wagon to the far leftists agenda. They may wish they hadn't.

She's full of baloney. She said it was his "tone of voice". Give me a break. She's full of it. She's desecrating her husbands memory. She's also taking away from the others who lost their love ones in this attack. Ridiculous.

This wouldn't be the first time Donald Trump said something disrespectful about a veteran. Remember when he said John McCain is not a hero because he was captured?

Both Clinton and Trump have been disrespectful towards veterans.

I think that can be considered a fact.

The question is why.

Why would any President be acting disrespectfully toward veterans?

Usually people are disrespectful because they don't respect the Service.

And usually they don't respect the Service because they have never served.

I agree...that was an incredibly stupid thing to say.... no explanation for that.

But he didn't say anything disrespectful about this fallen soldier.

I can't agree that just because a person happened to spend time in the Military, they are due some kind of elevation and adoration. I am a veteran, and I see it as just a segment of my life that I went through. Treat them right, but that is all they need to expect.

In truth, some Vets are awfully low, deceptive, dishonest and sorry people.

My dearest Willie, that wasn't what I said.

No place did I demand elevation and admiration.

But I expect that our CiC pays the veterans respect.

I seriously don't understand how hard it can be.

Yeah, some vets are living the PTSD life and all what it carries, some are drunkards and all sorts of addicts, making their families go through a living nightmare, some snaps and spend their final moments strapped to a bed in Huntsville awaiting the needle, and some just fades away without anyone really noticing.

Well he DID make a typically dumb remark about McCain (but we have seen by his latest voting in congress that McCain has a few problems with honor and manhood), but it is absolute foolishness and folly to ignore all the many, many good things PRESIDENT Trump says about, and does for, Veterans all the time. And I think we all know he NEVER uttered a disrespectful word to LaDavid's wife. I sure would expect all the other widows he has called to be saying the same thing about him. They are not. At least one has gone on TV saying how great he was when he called her.

I live in Philly -- 5/6th Democrats and 1/6th Republicans. Republicans aren't merely a minority in city government. They're nonexistent. We've reached that point in life when they can't do anything more to us. They can't refuse us work, they can't refuse us benefits, (they'd have to give us benefits to then refuse them lol), they can't kick us out of our house, and our neighbors (who are 50/50 on political party) already know us, so won't let us be bullied.

She has 5 kids ranging from 4-20, (if it is the woman with the living room.) Yeah, they can refuse all sorts of things she needs -- schooling for her kids, a job, benefits, if she ever needs them, and neighbors.

She's thinking "my children first."

For that, I don't blame her.
