Kansas Governor's Order Shields Clergy on Same-Sex Marriage

Kansas' governor told state government agencies Tuesday that they can't punish ministers or religious groups for opposing same-sex marriage, and critics said he is sanctioning discrimination even as the state extends new benefits to gay and lesbian couples....

The conservative Republican governor's action is designed to shield churches, clergy, religious leaders and religious groups refusing to perform same-sex weddings or provide goods, services or accommodations for them. The order includes religious organizations providing social services for the state and prevents state agencies from altering contracts, changing a group's tax-exempt status or denying grants, loans, licenses or accreditation.

Kansas had banned same-sex marriage and refused to recognize such unions from other states. Brownback has been a vocal supporter of those policies, which were bolstered by an amendment to the state constitution approved overwhelmingly by voters in 2005.


Brownback issued his order hours after his administration said it is allowing married gays and lesbians to change their names on their driver's licenses and permitting the health insurance plan for state workers to offer coverage to same-sex spouses.


"We have a duty to govern and to govern in accordance with the Constitution as it has been determined by the Supreme Court decision," Brownback said in a statement. "We also recognize that religious liberty is at the heart of who we are as Kansans and Americans, and should be protected."

If Kansas pulls this off, there are 23 other states that will fall in behind them... they are pretty much sitting on the sidelines and watching to see if and how the federals react...

Read another article in the Huffington Post , how "Gay marriage," as a term, is dead, and we should all stop using it. Ditto for "same-sex marriage"... They want it referred to as just marriage, so the generation coming up will know it as only marriage with no distinctions...

I Think the Dems and other liberals are going to find out that gay marriage is not as popular as their manipulated polls have suggested...I believe they will lose more and more sets in congress and because of this issue they have for sure lost the white house. I only hope that folks of moral character will actually work to turn this abomination back.

The legal battle over same-sex marriage may have ended, but its value as a wedge issue remains intact — a fact governors in Kansas and Missouri demonstrated Tuesday.

In Missouri, Gov. Jay Nixon ordered state boards and agencies to “immediately” implement the U.S. Supreme Court’s June 26 decision protecting same-sex marriage.

A few minutes later, Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback ordered agencies in his state to protect clergy from legal complaints if they object to same-sex ceremonies.
Nixon's order sets up Missouri clergy to be punished if they fail to cooperate with the Supreme Court decision. It doesn't say that, specifically, in the order, but the under the Missouri Revised Statutes, specifically Section 451.100.1, the state oversees those who are allowed to solemnize marriages. As marriage is now defined in Missouri as including same-sex couples, the force of the executive order Nixon signed means that any pastor who refuses to perform such a "wedding" may be subject to some form of sanction, fine, or punishment.

We're working to make sure Nixon is succeeded by a Republican next years.

Oxford Dictionary says marriage definition will change to include gay people...

This article appeared in 2013 when England started allowing gay marriages... the dictionaries in the US where not changed... not til now...

Was in Europe when this was introduced into law in the UK... the chaos and fall out was just as bad... Heck the French changed their dictionaries definition of "marriage" before it became law!... This fight is international not just in the USA... all the world is feeling the loss of Christian values... although Christianity is still the largest religion practiced around the world... Go figure??...

This battle is going to go on and on and when the silent majority speaks....many of these politicians and judges are going to get in line with traditional family values...at least that's my hope ... The liberals have gone too far before and its backfired on them politically...I hope this is the case again?

and because of political correctness the word father was not use, in the leaflet because it mite offend gays.

so cant remember, if this is just uk, or would also include the usa.

for my point, the battle, is already over. you need to change law of the land now. something religions, taboos or dogmas, cant do. ie when the whole of the usa vote is to be taken into account.

as the political law has already spoken, and changed, so having some states ,are trying to flog a dead horse.

and for the record, he who is without sin cast the first stone.
or he who can stand before god, because of gods grace, yet can say, to god , that some dont belong here, because they are sinners. is madness

The battle is not over here...Its only started...and because we all sin we all need a Savior and the grace to overcome...we don't promote and surrender to more sin...thats insane!

The battle is not over here...Its only started...and because we all sin we all need a Savior and the grace to overcome...we don't promote and surrender to more sin...thats insane!

so he who is without sin cast the first stone. so who appointed you judge, to who god save or dose not save..so if you can follow the full law by your self. were you still saved by grace, so when can you throw that stone.

if you cant follow the full law by ure self, how did you define what is a sin, if grace saved you in the first place, so your idea or right or wrong has no value, unless your the saviour.

Even if churches face discrimation charges for refusing to marry a gay couple, they should refuse to do so. Obeying god is more important than obeying the secular laws. And there are already churches that accept gay marriage (in so called progressive churches that are more willing to betray god's words for praises from the liberals than spreading the message of Jesus)
Of course gays will mosly have a civil wedding and not a religious one so I dont think that would be an issue.

No ..I came to Christ because I knew I was a sinner...not because folks deceived me into thinking sins ok and the government making laws to approve my sin. And of course I define sin by Gods standards and according to His Word and that same Word tells me to never approve or promote sin but rather to reprove it .

I guess I am? I guess in the south here I live in a social bubble of sorts...even the Democrats here are rejecting this last attack on our society.

Well, I dont know about you guys over in America, but it's long since homosexuality and things like that are a right.
I dont think something can be done about this, LGBT lobbys are powerful and they have more influence than christians have (in the medias and such).
What we need to do is to speak up as christians on those issues, offer alternative path for children, christian schools for exemple (I want to build a christian school that isn't a catholic school in my country, but the govt are putting obstacles our way and no banks would loan money for this).
We must also speak to gay people directly, they have been tought by medias and homosexual associations that their identity should be their sexual activities, and I know that a lot of gay people dont like that, we need to teach them that they have a soul, and that they are one of god's creature that is made for something else than flesh.
We need to stand up as christians everywhere no matter what, especially in America where there is still a vast majority of christians

It is not the fact that gays in our country want equal rights... The Declaration of Independence, the values this country was founded on clearly states in the opening preamble. "...We hold these truths to be self evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights... These words are backed by the Constitution... I do believe in them, I also believe that gays that cohabitate with a "life partner" so to speak, should be protected under the law in an equal manner to a married couple... What I do not agree with is the use of the word "marriage" for this type of a union... It is clearly defined and has been since the beginning as a union between a man and a woman... They could call it anything thing else like "Civil Union" or "Joint Union" with the same rights under the law as a marriage, same tax breaks, equal distribution of property, medical rights, etc. JUST DONT CALL IT MARRIAGE!

Take Note: "
two shall become one flesh" it is impossible for two men or two woman to product one flesh, one life form, "A Child". A child is the end result of two shall become one flesh a mixing of DNA...
