No, unfortunately I meant exactly what I said. Why would you want to associate Christian values with the veneration of statues that represent slavery and suppression to a section of society?
i don't know, but something tells me it's not that simple. slavery, while execrable, wasn't the only reason the war was fought.
and that section of society, while important, isn't the only one who deserves a voice. everyone should have a voice.
that's why (imo) it ought to be left up to the individuals who comprise a community. though i've been a citizen all my life, i have no idea what it's like to live in the south (tant pis!) and so don't know what it means to them.
and if that's all this is about, why the Lincoln Monument business? does some group just want disruption?
i'll say one thing, though, i'd rather have a Robert Lee or Thomas Jackson as a neighbor than a hundred U.S. Grants.
