I cannot believe this has happened again! Another mass shooting! And the weapon? An automatic machine gun?

Why, oh why, does anyone need an automatic weapon? If you want to defend yourself, surely a revolver or hand gun is the answer?

No other country allows these weapons. It’s why we don’t have mass shootings in Canada, or Australia or Japan ... etc.

Americans need to wake up, and ban these military grade weapons. Keep rifles for hunting, and limiting capacity guns for self defence! America used to be a leader in the world. Now it is a joke’

This constant horror show of mass shootings needs to come to a stop! And yes, it is possible to get rid of these guns. Other countries have. Besides the fact, it is crazies that are committing these mass shootings. There is no possible justification to own these kinds of guns, these days!

I agree. The right thing is not to take guns away from Americans, but to take machine guns away from Americans- including the guns that can be transformed into machine guns- these should all be outlawed. But if you take guns away from Americans completely, the crazies and the evil will still get them from the underground market, and the law-abiding citizens will have nothing to defend themselves with.

Knowing that the odds of the average American having a gun is little to nothing, will cause more home break-ins, rapes, and murders. Taking guns away completely will only make the problem worse. But we do need to outlaw these machine guns that can wipeout dozens of lives in seconds

Interestingly enough, most of these mass shootings are perpetrated by persons who should not own weapons due to mental conditions (our laws do prohibit mentally ill persons from owning firearms) however patient privacy laws make it impossible to track who those persons are.

In this case, the latest that I've heard is that the perp was dishonorably discharged from the military as the result of a general court martial which would have made it illegal for hi to have possesed the weapons that he had.
AMEN...was goin to state that we have many laws that should prevent this and my post above stands.....anti-gun people will be anti-gun people regardless of the facts.....and Canadian news just like AU news loves to embellish the facts when it comes to shootings as I have seen first hand.......I sat at a table with nine Australian guys and a mouthy truck driver in AU when the LAs Vegas deal went down and watched the news report false facts, embellish, twist and mouth America and our laws without having one clue what they were talking about........I told the truck driver he had no clue what he was talking about and need to keep his lips from flapping if he could not get his facts straight....both the he and news were saying that any AMERICAN can walk in a store and buy a fully automatic machine gun......my view...if your not an American citizen you have no right to open your mouth about our laws........especially if you do not know and or understand ALL OF THE FACTS.

All I can say to your post, Angela, is that Texas isn't the whole country and the US is still a very safe place. The media is great at picking up on every negative incident (and when it comes to the US, the whole world tunes in). To not visit the US out of fear of violence is a choice you have to make. But perhaps you could see it as a mission field rather than a place to avoid...? Just a thought.

But for myself, I would MUCH rather live in a country plagued by violence that recognizes it needs Jesus than a comfortable, healthy, wealthy, life-is-good country where people worship themselves instead of the Creator. Not saying that's what Canada is necessarily, but it's what America was once. But after things like this, it isn't so much anymore.

I actually heard a Christian song playing in Wal-Mart this past weekend... Who would have thought? God is working through these events, and despite the horribleness of it all, I'm also rejoicing inside to see people finally waking up slowly.
A good point for sure............

Ps 44:22 Yea, for thy sake are we killed all the day long; we are counted as sheep for the slaughter.

This is the consequence of sin. Christ overcame sin for us at Calvary.

For the cause of Christ

I am all for law-abiding citizens being able to legally arm themselves but there is no practical reason to own fully automatic weapons unless you plan on murdering Mass numbers of people

not reading the entire thread Angela, but as of this am, he had the gun illegally. he was dishonarably discharged and not allowed a gun permit...not even allowed a gun in the house

not stable between the ears

this underscores the fact that if a person wants a gun they will get a gun and use it however they wish

a legal gun owner stopped the carnage

has saying 'it needs to stop' ever stopped 'it'?

how do you stop mentally impaired people with demonic strongholds?

The reason why is this happening so often in the US must be somewhere else.
Godlessness, violent media, and drugs.
No doubt he was a consumer of all three.

Violent media doesn't make people violent.
Remember those two brothers who killed their parents for insurance money? I remember the article saying " the two brothers have spent their afternoon drinking heavily and listening to heavy metal music"
It's a common misconception that listening to metal, particularly extreme metal like death metal makes people prone to violence but studies show the exact opposite. People who listen to these types of music are statistically less likely to be violent. Probably because it gives them a healthy outlet for negative emotions

You are correct in your conclusions...

One minor correction... the US does not have "gun permits" to own a firearm. A person is either legally eligible to purchase a weapon, or they are not.... no permit required.

This lunatic was NOT legally eligible to purchase a firearm, because of a domestic violence conviction.... but he did anyway.

This should point out that laws by themselves are useless in preventing crime. Especially "un-enforceable" laws. I have some ideas on how to fix this particular issue, but it will take some "doing"...

What I am REALLY interested in finding out, is if this wacko was taking, or had taken any of the psychotropic drugs being prescribed in insane numbers to young people... like Ritalin, Ativan, etc...

well, not quite true actually

while studies will cite no link between the violent games and movies and crime, they absolutely DO state there is a link between those games and AGGRESSION

well cheese whiz...as long as they sit on their aggression everything should by just hunky dory

but that is not the case:

"Scientists have investigated the use of violent video games for more than two decades but to date, there is very limited research addressing whether violent video games cause people to commit acts of criminal violence," said Mark Appelbaum, the task force chair. "However, the link between violence in video games and increased aggression in players is one of the most studied and best established in the field."

read the entire interesting article here

you know, these studies are interpreted different ways by different sources, however there seems to be agreement with regards to the games and aggression

much like porn leads those whose constant source of interaction with objectified air brushed women leads them to believe women want it all the time and prefer abuse along with it

Your apophasis is irrelevant to my point.

The violent media I was referring to are those such as extremely violent
video games, gratuitously violent movies, and hardcore pornography, which
when combined with drugs and humanism produce disastrous cultural results.

All that being said, I have no doubt that you and
the murderer share the same taste in "music".

I understand the heartache and frustration from those who see the constant drumbeat of evil, the results of a fallen world, and want something done to stop it.

But would you really feel any better if this guy locked all the Church exits, doused the structure with gasoline, and burned our dear brothers and sisters to death?

Would you sleep better at night if he concocted a poison gas and killed them that way, or drove a fully laden 18 wheeler through the small Church? How bout if he made a fertilizer bomb and blew them up, or used box cutters to hijack a plane and crash it into the Church? Or about a million other ways evil finds a way?

Romans 8:36-39New King James Version (NKJV)

36 As it is written:
“For Your sake we are killed all day long;
We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.”[a]

37 Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. 38 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, 39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

I utterly sympathize with those that see the pictures of little children, and know that they were murdered. I have nothing but empathy for the victims families. But why do we in the west think we are going to be immune from the persecution Jesus told us we would have?

Does this mean we should just accept these events and merely move on? OF COURSE NOT!!!

This, and other horrible events, both man-made and natural, should spur us on even more to spread The Gospel, and to love each other as we see the birth pangs get closer and closer together.

We know who ultimately wins. Let's not be like the world and argue why there is evil and how to stop it. Let's conquer evil with good and love.

He "killed" me and the screen went red and yhe controller shook in my hand.

Sick game. Even sicker are those that invent, market and sell them.

I thought of that game when i saw the pic of the shooter.

It doesnt but ok
Humanism doesn't promote violence. If you want to be truthful religion is more likely to promote violence than humanism

right

and it is proven that these same games and others much worse, including rape and glorifying crime, create and stir up aggression

but of course no one ever acts that out

I cannot believe the ding bats conducting these studies for 20 yrs + say no connection between crime and the games but connection with aggression, proven multiple times over

hello? can someone connect the dots?

Weird that yall call it that in canada.

We call it a rump down here
well really! are you trying to say I am as big as a sofa?

I think I will just put this behind me

Canada is a State, just like every other nation, or State on earth. Your homework for today is to look up the word state.
