Hasn't everyone who entered the country illegally broken the law?
Yes, absolutely true. I think it was in '96, when Clinton gave his presidential address or whatever it is called, when he spoke on the illegal immigrants' issue and promised harsher treatment (like actually bringing the law into play as opposed to turning a blind eye) and more deportations etc., he got a standing ovation. In 2016 when Trump spoke on the same issue and made some of the same promises he was booed. Such fickleness. In the meantime the estimate was a million a year crossing illegally. There's the population of Canada again!

If anyone believes our taxes will be so drastically reduced, I have a bridge to sell them...

I can assure you I have no desire to become an American citizen. Absolutely zero.

My family feels the same and I don't see it happening either. But I sure wish they would get rid of that border. People work across that every day. We are not enemies. I think it's time it was done away with.

If they commit a crime, you deport them. But I don't see any reason to deport the bus boy who's not hurting anyone

Because those of us who came here legally and some are still waiting in line, it's unfair. More than unfair. Go through the process to come here legally and you'll understand.

Uh, no. Why not get rid of the Mexican border instead? They want in.

I'm talking about violent criminals. That's more of a European problem though. Mexican immigrants won't chop my head off overdrawing a cartoon.

Or the Guatemalan guy deboning chicken is not likely to strip a bomb to his chest

I think i mentioned to you before that i have family (cousins) in the Toronto and Montreal area and i mentioned the jokes at the border when i entered with a car on how nice the Canadians are and how rude the American side is when you come in.
I also mentioned that if it wasn't so damn cold up there i'd move because i really like it. It's very close to Europe in mindset.
I also mentioned that it's very hard to move up there and i praised your immigration system for being strict but also very accomodating for those who you allow in by integrating them and not leaving them in a sink or swim style of living like USA.
But thank God i found the next best thing to that. Massachusetts!
It has all of that, minus the nice factor which they make up for humor or sarcastic humor and all has been good for close to 30 years.
Thank you Jesus for leading me here!

That was a problem my daughter ran into with her aunt, because Auntie had lots of sentimental attachments to some of the family's accumulations, and even something that had been in storage for thirty years Auntie did not want to part with! LOL. Still, my daughter was a true warrior and powered through so much junk it is amazing, and she managed to sell quite a bit of stuff online, also. Her grand dad had used to make things with stained glass, so there were things like that she sold, old glass, related materials, and the tools etc. She even sold an old game boy box for I think it was over two hundred dollars. It was in pristine condition and holographic which was why someone bought it. The game did not even work any more but the guy did not care about that. He had been looking for that box for over a year! LOL! I did a really good apartment purge about a dozen years ago and I am due again...

I don't like clutter but things caught my attention and needed to be done so I had a bit of a hoarder thing starting. Then my niece in law came along at just the right time. She needed blankets and dishes, rugs and towels, oh my, lol. I had them all, I even gave them my stove! So the mini hoard was a good thing. Now here comes the New Year and it'll be time to pair down again.

Ron white said the same thing. If they all want to come up here anyways we might well incorporate south America into the USA. Take over the tyranny and stabilize there economy with the American dollar.

I was born and raised outside the greater Toronto area and most of my family is still there, some in T.O. proper... My parents are both from around the area also as were their parents... farmers, or as my brother who has done lots of family tree explorations would say, subsistence farmers, living literally hand to mouth and not even able to afford a tractor, so they plowed their farmland walking behind a horse. At least, my dad did. When he married my mom she was a teacher in a one room schoolhouse. Times sure have changed, huh? I am glad you and your family are happy where you are... When I watched the 2015 series Saints & Strangers, on the pilgrims who came over on the Mayflower, based on the journals of William Bradford... I really enjoyed it, and also found it interesting how the people who gave their name to the state you inhabit actually pronounced the name: Mass - ET' - chew - sets. As opposed to how I hear it now: Mass - a - CHEW' - sets.

Oh I loved Massachusetts! Except for the fact that they kept correcting my pronunciation of it. It reminded me of my home, Nova Scotia, even has some of the same names! That was back when I was still traveling. It's hard to move up north because they have free healthcare and even Trudeau is smart enough to know it would tank the country if they allowed illegals to come in the way Biden has.

You should have specified. And if they are to remain, under what conditions? It's a much more complicated issue than simply stay or go.

Yeah the accents and how they say things is also something that's enjoyable on a daily basis. I do it myself !
I figured the people in this area developed their accents and sarcastic sense of humor as a way to deal with the cold weather.

Did i tell you the story of an intern we had at our job? She was a 20-23 year old girl who was studying for the veterinary school and she did a summer gig in IT at our place.
She said that she was studying in the south. North Carolina or South Carolina, don't remember.
She said that people there were 'weirdly' nice that in fact it creeped her out. Like people holding the doors open for her and stuff like that.

So then - she said - when i came back home (Boston) during summer break, i had one guy slam the door in front of me at the dunkin donuts shop and i said 'ahhh finally i'm home".

Several reasons, but most of all I could go back home without all the rigmarole. My father is longing to go back home to visit, the fact is it's too expensive to get back there. I don't see the reason for the border. Haven't for years. When I was still traveling and visiting churches on both sides of the border and so many work across the border every day. I just see it as a hassle. But no one's listening to my opinion, so don't worry. lol

Do you think all the European borders should be erased also because they get crossed all the time as well?

Europe is a mess because of such a lackadaisical attitude toward maintaining control of one's country...

Hahahah that reminds me of my brother in law. When he became engaged to my sister we were traveling in Canada and he flew up to be with her. He's a Kentucky boy. We met him in Toronto, he was stunned Canada had a city that large. So we went to a restaurant and it was crowded and we were waiting in the entry by the door. Everyone who came in, my BIL would open and hold the door for them. He kept getting looks and I pulled him over and said " stop it, people think you're trying to pick their pocket, let them get their own door!!"

Ahem, yes, we are known for being polite. One of my fave personal funny stories around this topic is from when I used to take the bus, which was so last millennium LOL. Anywho, being jostled around while standing on crowded public transit, I accidentally stepped on someone's foot, which startled me and so I said ouch (or maybe just ow), and they apologized to me. Too funny!!!:ROFL::LOL:

I haven't been there so I really can't say. But I feel like we are close to His second coming. Something feels different about the entire world, an anticipation of something they don't know about. I have loved I still want to see saved but I feel we are so very close to the end of the beginning. That's on my mind more than any politics honestly.

@SonJudgment , you're right about your boi Fetterman.
I think he's one of those who listens and doesn't say a lot and is willing to learn.
I appreciate that trait.
God bless him.
You're right but only to a degree. The democrats will never be republicans remember that, but its a matter of can they repent both on the individual level but also realistically reform the democrat party. Otherwise the democrats would just go the Tulsi and RFK route and leave the democrat party wholly and go independent or else outright join the republicans. Fetterman is still somewhat new having risen to the Senate during Biden's regime though he does hold a more prestigous office than my girl AOC being that he is a Senator. He's also from a powerful and important Great Lakes-Midwest state. So far for better or worse Fetterman appears a reflection of his state and represent the wider Midwest mindset well from a slight left lean. We still got 4 years to go though too and this we must keep in mind, but Fetterman is of interest for the right now in our prelude transitory period before Trump formally takes office. What Fetterman will want in exchange in the future from both the republicans and the democrats is still yet to be seen and will have more impact to determine what direction Fetterman could start leading the democrat party in and whether their party is even capable of repenting and assuming that much then if the wider party is ever willing to go in those directions and elevate him into leadership positions.
