What do you consider Middle Class? A two hundred thousand dollar home is actually quite common here in the US in most Urban, Suburban areas. Depending on the Market Area, it could be on the high end........Southern/Western Rural areas, but if one goes to the large and developed areas, it would be on the lower end of the average home cost.
It is true that this "increase" is being misrepresented for a lot of folks, and, some would say that if a person/family can afford a two hundred thousand dollar (or higher) home........what's another five hundred dollars a year?
But it doesn't matter IF one is simply realizing that it does equate to a Tax Increase for those effected by it. By definition alone............To show comparison, when Ford said they would add/keep 800 jobs here in the US, and not move them to Mexico, some said "big deal," and others said "hey, it's 800 jobs!" So, some will say "5oo.oo bucks, big deal," and others will say, "hey, it's 5oo bucks!"
I don't think it is any kind of deal breaker or any such.......just saying.......
