1. At what age did you leave home & venture off on your own and/or what were the reason(s) you did?

At 18, got married and started my own household with my then-husband.

2. Other than the Bible what is the most thought provoking and/or inspiring book you've ever read? (if you have more than one please feel free to list them all)

Mere Christianity is probably the most thought provoking and inspiring book I've ever read aside from the Bible.

3. What is the one thing in your life that you have/own/love that would be the most difficult to get rid of if God told you he wanted you to?

Oosh, been there done that with my ex-husband. Learned a valuable lesson about not holding anything in this world - even other people - up too high, or too tightly. I think now I may be a little wary of holding onto anything TOO much? Like perhaps God will teach me another lesson if I do? So I'll leave it at that. :p

4. What is/was the worst job you've ever worked at,or position you've held & how long did you work there?

Probably working as a sacker at a grocery store for $4.25 an hour.

5. If you were training for a fight, who would you rather have train you or in your corner to mentor you,and why?

A.) Micky (from Rocky)
B.) Mr. Miyagi (from The Karate Kid)
C.) Yoda (from The Empire Strikes Back)

Are you kidding? YODA!!

1. At what age did you leave home & venture off on your own and/or what were the reason(s) you did?

Just after my twentieth birthday. I was kicked out of home and ended up living with my boyfriend at the time. The area he lived in just happened to be a high crime rate area, known for many drug busts and a sprinkle of murders.

2. Other than the Bible, what is the most thought provoking and/or inspiring book you've ever read? (if you have more than one please feel free to list them all)

'Out of our Minds' by Sir Ken Robinson - In regards to creativity and the education system. 'Becoming Myself' by Stasi Eldredge - I would seriously recommend this book to each and every woman on CC. Absolutely fantastic and heart felt book. And 'He loves me' by Wayne Jacobsen - Actually a CC member from California sent me this book at a very timely season in my life. Then I realised I could have bought to book from a Christian book store about 25 minutes drive away. But I guess it made the book that bit more special.

3. What is the one thing in your life that you have/own/love that would be the most difficult to get rid of if God told you he wanted you to?

My legs. I couldn't imagine life without running, climbing, dancing. I love moving, I love reflecting on life as I jog.

4. What is/was the worst job you've ever worked at, or position you've held & how long did you work there?

When I was 16 years old and in my last year of high school, I worked two jobs. One was at a fish and chips shop. It was disgusting, unhygienic and hot and stuffy in there. I worked there for over a month.

5. If you were training for a fight, who would you rather have train you or in your corner to mentor you,and why?

A.) Micky (from Rocky)
B.) Mr. Miyagi (from The Karate Kid)
C.) Yoda (from The Empire Strikes Back)

I'd have to say b) Mr. Miyagi.

1. what's your favourite fruit?

Ummmm, there's too many. Probably either blueberries or mangos.

2. how do you feel about adrenaline-inducing activities?

I don't mind roller coasters, tubing or rock climbing (although I haven't done proper rock climbing, just run around in the wild doing my own thing 'rock climbing') or the likes, but I don't like anything that includes falling e.g. bungee jumping, sky diving, the giant drop ride at Dream World.

3. describe a favourite sentimental possession.

There's this ugly, rough textured coat I have that I cannot bring myself to get rid of because it is the coat my mum wore when she was pregnant with me.

4. describe what you'd consider a "near perfect day" spent with someone else, such as a friend or significant other.

Waking up to a sun rise on a hammock with someone in a tree house. Then eating a chicken, mushroom and avocado omelette they make at a café they have near where I live. Then climb some trees, swim in a lake with some waterfalls, bareback ride on a horse along a beach, watch a sunset and then dance under the stars. And then fall asleep under an open sky without the fear of being attacked by some crazy beast or being eaten alive by ants.

5. in school, who was your favourite teacher and what did they teach? why were they your favourite?

I had not so great teachers all through primary school and high school. I was the shy type that got lost in the background, or in high school I was the lost cause that only scrapped by. It wasn't until I was 18 years of age and in my second year of TAFE (like a community college I think, this was prior to university) that I had a teacher named Lyn. She was an older lady who had a very colourful and very modern style. But she was the first person in my life to believe in me. She always took me out of my comfort zone, making me rise to the occasion, made me stand up and voice my opinions and understanding during class because I tend to see life through an odd lens that I think she just found intriguing. She saw straight through me and encouraged me to think with my creative abilities and encouraged me to do my assignments with my own touch of passion and creativity rather than logically and systematically. At the end of my course, she wrote me a letter on pink paper. I have that letter in a folder at work to remind me why I teach during those days I just want to cry and go home.

Arlene, you're inspirational, mate. I think I have struggles and then I feel like crying after I hear what you've been through, but God has been so good to you and made you a new creation. You're awesome. :)

2. Other than the Bible, what is the most thought provoking and/or inspiring book you've ever read? (if you have more than one please feel free to list them all)

Fiction-wise all of The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis. Also, The Great Divorce by Lewis. I didn't read the book until I was in my early 20s because I thought it was about divorce. I wondered why Lewis viewed it as 'great'. Silly me. :p

I am digging the tree house part but puzzled about the avocado omelette as that sounds horrible. I would prefer a western omelette but would settle for a bowl of Fruit Loops and a glass of OJ. Your "near perfect day" sounds romantic. To make the day perfect I will set up a few Tiki torches for a little ambience and play some soft love tunes on a CD to help us fall asleep.

Hahaha, tourist. Its really early in the morning here, and as I read this, I was like, "EXCUSE ME, but are you inviting yourself in to my near perfect day?" But then I realise it was us as in you and your significant other. Actually music is a fantastic idea, I don't even know how I could describe a near perfect day without music.

1. At what age did you leave home & venture off on your own and/or what were the reason(s) you did?

i left "home" at 16 after i graduated from high school to move into my grandparents home in CA to live with them. i worked and went to college.

3 days after i turned 18, i moved to brooklyn, ny, to work as an assistant for a "friend -of-a-friend" who was a record label exec.

but i mostly went for the adventure and fun.

2. Other than the Bible what is the most thought provoking and/or inspiring book you've ever read? (if you have more than one please feel free to list them all)

to avoid spending an excessive time trying to choose, i'm going to list the books that were most influential during my years as a new christian, and remain as sentimental favorites.

the search for significance, robert mcgee
through the gates of spendour, elisabeth elliot
biblical psychology & my utmost for my highest, oswald chambers

3. What is the one thing in your life that you have/own/love that would be the most difficult to get rid of if God told you he wanted you to?

my dog chloe & my freedom

4. What is/was the worst job you've ever worked at,or position you've held & how long did you work there?

working at a wafer manufacturing plant when i was finishing my degree. i worked 12 hour night shifts doing mind-numbing work for almost 18 months. i ended up getting my first real "career" job at that company, so i was waiting for the opportunity to advance.

i still credit it with slightly messing up my sleep patterns, and a lot of habits that i acquired during that time, such as late-night grocery shopping.

5. If you were training for a fight, who would you rather have train you or in your corner to mentor you,and why?

A.) Micky (from Rocky)
B.) Mr. Miyagi (from The Karate Kid)
C.) Yoda (from The Empire Strikes Back)

all the boxing i've learned is from fitness trainers, and i'd imagine i could learn a lot. though i'm sure mr. miyagi could be quite fascinating as well.

i'm mildly fascinated by asian culture and martial arts. but mostly the food. ; p

Okay new questions:

1. If you could be any comic strip character (not superhero, sorry Jonathan) which would you be, and why?
Maybe Hobbes from Calvin and Hobbes. He's a trip.
2. What is the best dish you know how to cook/bake?
Kraft macaroni and cheese haha. I know, it sounds lame, but there are ways to make it good or bland.

3. What was your favorite childhood book?
I remember a book, i think it was called Happy Hunting Grounds. I believe it was a collection of native american based stories.
4. What was the last concert you attended?
Becoming the Archetype. But it was kind of lame. The last Real concert was Demon Hunter headlining, Staple, Becoming the Archetype and... a group i'm forgetting.
5. If the Lord called you into the mission field, what type of work would you ideally like to do?
Possibly prison ministry if i was doing work that cost little or nothing. If i had tons of money i'd also have a high quality shelter for abused women.

1. what's your favourite fruit?

Bananas. Grapes. nom.

2. how do you feel about adrenaline-inducing activities?

No thanks. Prone to anxiety issues and have hypertension haha.

3. describe a favourite sentimental possession.

I had a CD full of almost everything i wrote as a teen. Sadly it's on the other side of the country and who knows if it even works anymore.
Also a pocket knife that belonged to my dad before i stole it out of his drawer years ago haha.

4. describe what you'd consider a "near perfect day" spent with someone else, such as a friend or significant other.

Hmm... been so long since i've done that i don't even know anymore. When i was 18 my buddy and i worked the same job and hours. We worked overnights. We were off on payday, so we'd go home and sleep a few hours. When we woke up we'd head to the Christian bookstore and buy some new music. Then stop by Pizza Hut for a stuffed crust and Mtn Dew. Then go by Blockbuster and rent games and movies. Finally swing by work and pick up junk food, candy, cookies, soda. Baby food sometimes hahaha. Then we'd stay up all night bouncing from movies to video games and music while eating horribly.

5. in school, who was your favourite teacher and what did they teach? why were they your favourite?

I enjoyed my Art teacher in HS. She was so cool and fun and laid back. She was an Elvis Presley fan, so when i graduate i bought her a gift. Something Elvis. I forget what exactly now.
I also liked my... i forget what she taught. But she was only a few years older than we were and a former cheerleader. So she was pretty cute. hahahaha

Thanks, man. I'm glad I can move people and I'm not just rambling in some annoying manner.

But seriously, one of my closest friends works with women at risk refugees, which mainly consists of women who have escaped middle eastern countries for fear of their lives. Some of these women's stories truly makes you thankful about what you have. The last story my friend told me was that a woman came home one day to find her husband and other relatives cut to pieces on the floor. He was some important military figure. She spent the next several years being transported around the country to save herself and her children and suffered many near death situations until finally coming to Australia. So, you know what? I'm pretty happy and thankful. Because the God I love and the God who saves has me in the palm of His hands.

Yikes! That definitely puts my being bullied throughout high school and TAFE and having few friends, in perspective. We need to be thankful for what we do have and praise God and learn to trust Him more readily. Bless you, sis!

1. what's your favourite fruit?

Somehow I am allergic. But, bananas.

2. how do you feel about adrenaline-inducing activities?

I adore them. Skydiving seems inevitable at this point.

3. describe a favourite sentimental possession.

My teddy bear.

4. describe what you'd consider a "near perfect day" spent with someone else, such as a friend or significant other.

First, my friend says goodbye and then heads home. Then I go out in my backyard and bathe in the sun. Then I go for a run. Once I'm warmed up I try something a little more daring in my backyard. Then I make myself a sausage, egg, and cheese breakfast sandwich. Then I read Proverbs and listen to dark classical music. Then I sing for a bit, play guitar for a bit, and then write a bit of poetry. Then I work on the song I've been making, and the website I've been making. Then help someone old carry something heavy. Then I'd go downtown and prevent a crime, such as a mugging. Then I'd go home and watch an episode of Downton Abbey and go to sleep. Granted I don't die during the mugging, this would be a super chill day, you have to admit.

5. in school, who was your favourite teacher and what did they teach? why were they your favourite?

Math Teacher. He introduced me to line equations, how could I not love him?

I have some catching up to do.

Gracie's questions:
1. Which movie deserves a sequel?
Bambi Meets Godzilla

2. What toy would you like to throw repeatedly at a brick wall?
Uh...a tennis ball!
*thinks about making a comment about Gracie and tennis, saves it for the chatroom*

3. What is one thing you always wanted as a kid, but never got?
Jennifer Galetti. *sigh*

4. Where do you not mind waiting?
On Grace-Like-Rain's lap. *grin*

5. What is your most impressive car repair skill?
I cracked open the door of Shourmobile v.1 and repaired the hand crank for the window. I can do most basic maintenance; I just don't have jackstands to do my own oil changes or brake jobs. You're not getting under a Miata without jackstands or a pit.

Monicat's questions:
1. what's your favorite fruit?
As much as I love cherries...when it comes down to it, I could eat khao niao mamuang for the rest of my life and be happy. Cold slices of ripe mango with warm sticky rice bathed in coconut milk. Truly decadent.

2. how do you feel about adrenaline-inducing activities?
Well, different things get different people's blood flowing in different ways. I like adrenaline. Love me a rollercoaster.

3. describe a favorite sentimental possession.
My best friend and I used to work as proctors (tech help) for our university's computer labs. There were labs all over campus, and labs that weren't housed in the lab buildings were remote labs; if you had to proctor those labs, you had to go to the main building, get the key to the remote lab, and then unlock the lab yourself. You were also responsible for securing the lab and getting the key back to the main building. My best friend lost the key to one of the remote labs; he got in a great deal of trouble for it, but in the end, no harm done. As he moved out of my apartment and I got a new roommate, we found the key. We kept it hung on the wall as a joke. I kept it even after I left Las Cruces, and he passed in 2009. I still have the key which caused him so much grief (and eventually became our joke) in my possession to this day.

4. describe what you'd consider a "near perfect day" spent with someone else, such as a friend or significant other.
1st breakfast; read the Word together, pray; play some duets; 2nd breakfast; minor chores; goof off a little; 1st lunch; spirited drive on a mountain/coastal/forest road or race karts; plinking; 2nd lunch/PreWOSnack; round or two of League of Legends; lift; PostWOSnack/1st dinner; shower, refresh; cook supper or go out to supper; sit on out couch and veg a little and/or chat on CC.

5. in school, who was your favorite teacher and what did they teach? why were they your favorite?
No surprise that it was my high school band director? I always loved music, no question. But he set high standards and worked hard to get us there. He could be incredibly mean and demanding, but most of the time, he was funny and encouraging. He was only really tough on us if we didn't do our jobs. I take after him quite a bit in my own teaching style, although probably not intentionally.

Hoss' questions:
1. If you could be any comic strip character (not superhero, sorry Jonathan) which would you be, and why?
Hobbes. Smock smock smock!

2. What is the best dish you know how to cook/bake?
Wow, that's a tough one. Most people would probably say guay diao, a Thai noodle dish that's similar to the Vietnamese pho. On the other hand, I make some mean pork chops.

3. What was your favorite childhood book?
Two way tie, between The Trumpet of the Swan and How to Eat Fried Worms.

4. What was the last concert you attended?
Saw the Mad Caddies with a friend a couple of months ago. She scored a couple of tickets, and her friend bailed on her, so I went with.

5. If the Lord called you into the mission field, what type of work would you ideally like to do?
I've never felt strong compelled to serve in any field other than music, but I don't see that being a priority in most missionary situations. Given my experience, I'd like be a teacher.

TORE's questions:
1. At what age did you leave home & venture off on your own and/or what were the reason(s) you did?
Two days before my 18th birthday, for preseason band camp (save the jokes, because I've totally never heard them before). I left for college.

2. Other than the Bible what is the most thought provoking and/or inspiring book you've ever read?
The philisophical musings of Robert Fulghum have always stuck with me. He rides a nice balance between thoughfulness, pragmatism, and humour.

3. What is the one thing in your life that you have/own/love that would be the most difficult to get rid of if God told you he wanted you to?
My musicianship.

4. What is/was the worst job you've ever worked at,or position you've held & how long did you work there?
I worked as a fry cook at a KFC the summer before I left for college. It wasn't a terrible job, it was just the worst of the jobs that I'd had. I worked hard, had good company, and enjoyed it.

5. If you were training for a fight, who would you rather have train you or in your corner to mentor you,and why?
All Mickey did was yell things like, "You're gonna eat lightning, and crap thunder!" and "Women weaken legs!" From the looks of Rocky's training montage, it didn't look like Micky did much of anything. I'm more likely to hire Bill Conti's choir from Gonna Fly Now than Mick.

I don't have any natural strengths in manipulating the Force...unless the force is charming the ladies (*points at Wandering_Here, winks*). So I'm pretty sure Yoda would be done with me before he starts.

That leaves Miyagi-san. Dude served in WWII while his wife was in an internment camp. When asked what belt he had, his response was, "Canvas, you like? JCPenney, $3.98!" The best way to block a punch according to him? "Not be there." When a man, who's sole purpose in life at that moment was to kill him, lays trapped in a collapsed building, Miyagi rescues him. Every lesson he gives Daniel in karate is never about combat, it's about life.

Is it even a contest?
