I have never been on a date but I imagine watching a movie or TV would be about the most frustrating thing imaginable. Nobody wants to talk to you while they're trying to follow the plot of a movie. I know, I've tried - when we have a family dinner here the conversation is a lot of fun right up until some idiot turns the TV on. Then it's over, everyone watches the box. And I would rather talk to someone right here than watch people on a screen pretend to do stuff.

This sounds wonderful! If you were a chick, I would date you...

...once you shaved the beard.

picnic by the river or a park

get in on a dance class - salsa, swing, or if you are a real nerd like me, contra dancing

cook something together

scare the little kids off the playground so you can play on the swings

Scrabble, cards or a board game - not Monopoly, that could get violent

eat something frugal for dinner, then go for an oversized dessert and split it

I love the ideas from this thread!! If I ever get a date or, gasp, a boyfriend... I will have to bookmark this thread for reference.

My "special treat" yesterday was a Quarter Pounder meal from McDonald's (NO ketchup or mustard, Lynx!! Heresy! :)) I love McD's because it has a nostalgic history for me as well. My family rarely went out to eat and for us, McD's was (and still is for me) a treat. However, I was blown away yesterday by the fact that my meal was about $8, which is much more expensive than I remember (it's been probably a year since I've had a Quarter Pounder.) I kept thinking about how that was pretty much the cost at a regular restaurant!

The MdD's I went to is actually a small station inside a Wally's World--I'd be very happy if a guy I liked just asked me to go get milkshakes at McD's (which I'm guessing would be about $12??!! I'd offer to pay for my own!) and walk around Wally's.

You can learn a lot about someone by what they want to look at (I need a new Welcome Mat for my door, and I want to scout out some new victims... er... houseplants, not my date, per se :)) and how they react to the people there.

Let's just say... my prayer life becomes very active during a trip to Walmart.

Taking a bikeride together through the park. Taking a walking on the beach at night. Watching and listening to the waves and looking up at the stars. Or a homemade dinner on the beach.

seoulsearch: Places inside other stores have to pay rent, sometimes a rather exorbitant amount. That's why the local really-small version of any fast food chain that is in a mall's food court is more expensive than if you go to the real store two blocks away. But $8 is still a bit high... Maybe it's because I live in TN and you live wherever you live. I hear other places everything is higher than it is here.

Although personally I consider fast food a heresy in and of itself, with or without mustard. For six bucks I can go to a local restaurant here and get a really good cheeseburger or fish sandwich and steak fries.

I'm usually more tactful when pointing out the errors of others, especially on such important and sensitive topics as fish sandwiches, but....

I make the best fish sandwiches: sauteed cabbage, lightly spiced, cajun fried fish, in a buttered and garlicked toasted hoagie.

Pics next time I make one. :)

Ewwwww! No, that kind of fish sandwich is not good. What I get at the local restaurant is a fish fillet on a sandwich.

Contrary to popular belief, ketchup IS NOT the nectar of the gods..............Wishyoursisterwashere sauce IS!
Haha! I have never heard that. And I hope I never call it that around anyone's sibling.

I'm thinking just getting together to read the Word would be a good idea! It would definitely bring you closer.
