I had a very happy childhood as long as I wasn't in school which I hated. I was not one to fit into groups of other kids, I'm pretty much the same now in that I prefer a few very close friends to lots of distant ones. My parents were strict but not Christians. Looking back now though their guidelines were indeed Biblical. Childhood was great, being an adult not so great.

My parents loved to ski.......every christmas we would get skis....then go skiing in the mountains....
the poconos.....and vermont.......probably some of the best times my sisters and I got along......

We were staying at a place that had practice hills....my sister and I snuck out to take the toboggan
to the practice slopes....it was night and no one else was there.....we had met a girl earlier who followed us..
when we took our first run....I was in the front and my sister pushed us off and we went off the trail and hit
fresh snow....blinded by snow in my face I steered us right into a tree.....my sister saw the light hanging from
the tree thinking we had been electricuted.....she ran through the snow peeling of her clothes........
All I could do was roll over in the snow laughing sooo hard.........

Ok .....one more.....my friend george and I loved to fish....since we lived on the jersey shore.....it was just a bike
ride away....except when we wanted to go crabbing....then we had to take the city bus......we would each bring
a crab trap with an old fish head tied to the top on the cage........im sure the other passengers loved the smell....
we sat on the bridge all day..... eating the lunches we packed.......the ride home was even smellier.....
soooo ladylike....as my father use to say....but I loved those carefree days....

I miss the simplicity of life; walking to school and back in all weather; parents and teachers actually being able to do something with those that misbehaved; growing up with a couple of close friends for years; and especially, no real responsibility!

Lol, I know what a stick horse is but the way you said all of that made me picture you saying it in just one breath, which is pretty hilarious to me:D
I also know what stick horses are. I also had a rocking sheep (like a rocking horse, but a sheep - 'Straya mate), that had enough fake hair covering it's face that you couldn't see it's gleaming fake eyes. So one day (as a child) I cut the wool out of its eyes, because I thought he needed a hair cut. Was surprised when it didn't grow back.

You probably don't know anything about stick horses do you?.... this comes from being born in the 1950's... They would put a stuffed plastic horse head on top of a short broomstick and you would pretend to ride the horse stick like it was a real horse and I loved cowboy/girl stuff and my favorite cup to drink out of was a pink plastic cowgirl mug.....memories how much fun they are..... I bet that pink cowgirl mug would be worth some money now as it would be an antique such as I am over 50 and all.....but then I am a fun Blond antique.......lol
Wow!! that brings back memories. Not only did I have a stick horse, I had the whole cowboy outfit with double guns (shot caps) with holster. I saw my grandmother and I told her to 'stick em up' because I was the cowboy and she was the Indian. She stuck her hands up to play the game and she looked me in the eyes and said something that would forever change my life. She said " biscuit, take a good look at me, I am Indian." My jaws dropped and for the first time in my five years of life, I realized the world was a spectrum of colors. I said to her while in shocked that I was sorry. She just laughed and told me to continue playing.

LOL!! talking about getting a lesson at the age of 5 about judging someone. The lesson made me a better person and more accepting of the races & ethnic groups during the late 1950's to this day.

I had to laugh at this one because we know how cruel siblings can be to one another. My sister, age 6, allowed a neighbor's girl to play with her Barbie and the girl washed the doll's hair with harsh hand soap a little too often, causing the doll's head to go bald.

I had a laughing attack and sister wasn't happy about it. We are just a year apart.

Poor thang! LOL!!

Siblings can be competitive with each other and this is the same sister, again!!!

She was always jealous and seeking approval from parents and myself. She was determined to show us that she was the smarter of the two. Naturally, I told her she wasn't which made her very angry.

My father bought my younger brother (age 5) an expensive portable projector that shows slides of cartoon characters on the wall. Normally, parents will give it to me to put together with instruction sheet but sister persuaded parents that she could do it against my objections. Nevertheless, she destroyed 3 very expensive projectors just to prove a point. I was laughing too loudly & too often to contain myself. It was the fourth projector that she decided to give it to me to put together. And yes, I put it together properly and my poor brother finally got to watch his favorite cartoons on the wall. My sister & I were 12 & 13 respectively. It was a long time before she challenged me again. She finally stopped challenge me at the age of 18 after losing every battle we engaged in.:D

I grew up in a big family and they mean the whole world to me next to God of course.I really miss quarreling over little things and doing silly stuffs with my sisters. Lol. Things will never be the same again now that we are grown ups. All of us are so preoccupied with work and school but we still make it to the point to get in touch every now and then. I'm forever grateful to God for giving me a wonderful family. I couldn't really ask for more.

I have always been aware that some boys gave their sisters' dolls haircuts, but I never had the urge. As long as my sister left my transformers and hot wheels alone, I had no interest in her dolls.

Speaking of which: I do recall being a bit of a toy snob. Today I'm a food snob and chocolate snob (won't eat fast food, won't eat hershey) but back then I was a toy snob. The hot wheels brand of cars was made of die-cast metal, and I lined them up on the edge of my bed. The matchbox cars were all plastic - I left them out in the yard.

Well? What? They just didn't roll right. Cheap pieces of junk...

I had a craze for toy soldiers. I used to line them up facing each other and simulate a war situation. And I used the nuts from my Funskool building toy to be the bombs they hurled. I even made a missile out of dad's pen and used it to "bomb" the enemy positions. :D

During class we used to play fun games like book-cricket, rock-paper-scissors and hand-cricket.
