Note to self: Never, ever, EVER pick a fight with Roh_Chris. At least until I get defense turrets and lasers in place.
Defense turrets? No problem. Enter precision bombing. New-generation missiles guided by the flick of my thumb are accurate up to 1 cm on ground. These long-distance battery of missiles will form my last layer of defense. They will 'soften' the ground for my tanks to move in.

Missiles as last layer? Bad planning man. Sounds like you've been playing this game I was playing last week, Warzone 2100. It's free now and I've been killing a few hours here and there with it. Artillery bunkers, mobile artillery, sensor towers, half-tracks, hovercraft, VTOLs, all kinds of weapons, etc.

But if you have missiles as the LAST layer of defense... I don't know if you'll get very far.

Sorry, I meant "offense". Um, I meant that the missiles would be used to bombard enemy positions so that my artillery and infantry can move in.

Have you played Age of the Empires 2? :D

I used to have a group of 10 Trebuchets to flatten enemy buildings (castles/guard towers/town centers). The rest of damage was done by my catapults, cavalry and pikemen. The hand-combat units were covered by a strong lineup of javelin-throwers. I also took 2 villagers with me when I went on my offense. The moment I established a foothold in the enemy's territory, I quickly built a few barracks, archery ranges and siege workshops to lessen the time my units spent walking to their rally point.

I've never played AOE, but the concept is the same in Warzone. Just with armor repair stations, tanks and howitzers instead of rally points, army and trebuchets.

And for the sake of keeping this thread on topic I hope you played AOE as a child so it can be a childhood memory.

I was lucky as a child because my Dad was a great Jazz pianist. He would have jam sessions at our house. My brother and I would dance to the music. My great Grandfather also played the Violin. Our holidays were filled with music. It really was a wonderful time.
