This reminds me of when I was a kid. We planned a BBQ for Easter Sunday and we were having a large egg hunt with family, friends, and neighbors. I was really excited until I woke up and they told me I had to get ready for church before we started partying. I thought to myself "why can't we have a break! I mean it's Easter for crying out loud! Why do we have to go to boring church?" But I was Catholic back then. That explains most of it.
I think it's nice to have church on Sunday for Christmas. A lot of people don't have family and I bet it's good for them to attend service and spend time with their spiritual family.
Although, I don't have a set church right now (mine closed down.) But I don't feel like I'm leaving Christ out of it. We worship at home, read the Christmas story together as a family, and have a cake for Jesus and sing Happy Birthday. It's pretty neat!
Side note: I do go to church, but I'm still looking for a home church. I might attend my brother's this Sunday.
