We have a two services on Christmas eve, one early-ish for kids (like me) and one later for adults. Then we have a full service on Christmas morning.

Originally was not sure about going because I was supposedly suppose to be recovering from a minor surgery. Now, I probably won't get to go because of a stupid virus. GRRRR

I have to confess that I can't remember a single Christmas Day that I attended a church service (cue stoning now.) When I was growing up, my family always went to the Christmas Eve service the night before and then started making the rounds (to visit family) on Christmas Day.

Thanksgiving has become my "adventurous" holiday the past couple of years because I was usually by myself. I spent a couple of my Thanksgiving in prisons (as a visitor, not a resident) and missed church because I had to get up pretty early to make it to the visiting hours on time. Another Turkey Day when I was with my family, we went with a group that cooked and served meals to local families in need.

I'm thinking, I'd kind of like to do those sorts of things more often for the holidays in the future.

The prison visits affected me the most. Out of a 300-man block, only 3 inmates received visits. No wonder so many people feel broken and forgotten.

To be honest, I often have a lot of sad feelings myself on the holidays, but going and sitting with other people who have it 1000x worse and then some was a pretty good "church service" to me.
That is a very good "church" service ministry that you have. I'm very much impressed.

This is a very good report.

Our Pastor says that our church family should get together to celebrate the birth of Jesus. My family would never miss it.

We Norwegians are weird. our main Christmas celebration on the 24th.

Normally there is a short church service in the afternoon. The 25th is a fairly ordinary service at 11.
My father and I go to church the 24th, sometimes my mother joins us, but she gets nervous thinking of all the food that might not get ready (or get burned if left in the oven), so she tends to stay at home

That's not weird. I think the Haitians main celebration is also on the 24th.

I have this theory that in real life, you don't actually talk, Lynx, but rather, sing out everything, kind of like the Giant's Golden Harp from Jack and the Beanstalk. ;)

In fact, I bet you'd give the Harp a run for her... uh... strings? :p
A nice theory, but in reality I actually belch everything I say. Sorry to disappoint you.

No, I actually do talk like a normal person. But I am just as prone to mention songs your conversation reminds me of in person as I am on the Forum.

Where I live the buses stop about 6pm on Christmas Eve, plus no buses running Christmas
Day. So I won't be going to the Sunday service. (Would be a 3 mile walk each way).

Plus we have no Carer's the Christmas weekend so I've got to sort my aunts personal needs
and I make the dinner etc. Even if the buses were running it would be a struggle to fit everything
in.

If I lived on my own I might consider doing that 3 mile walk each way.

If my church has a Christmas eve service I will go. But honestly I don't like going to my church (Which probably means its not for me and I should find a church I like) But I have no car and it's literally 2 houses away.

For many Europeans the big day of celebration is 24th, I don't know why.

Most churches I've heard about are doing an abbreviated sunday morning on Christmas (cancelling Sunday school and children's programs and probably adjusting service accordingly), many will probably do their traditional Christmas Eve services the night before as well. I think that's the best option as it doesn't quit just because it's difficult but they also take into consideration the fact that lots of people who serve regularly will have good reason to be away.

As I'll be with my parents for Christmas weekend, I'll probably go to church with them whenever they go to church during the weekend. If I were just on my own though, I'd probably only go to church once that weekend.

Tourist & I do daily Bible reading out loud and as he is reading a text at times I will burst out with singing the verse as many of the Bible verses are set to music.... Tourist always says how do you know all those songs or Bible verses in song and music is one of the easiest ways to retain/(memorize) the Bible.....

Bless your heart ma'am. Thank you for relating that. I'm glad I'm not the only one who reads the Bible and starts humming a song I heard that incorporated those verses.

You could ask Tourist just how many times I burst out singing as situations remind me of music.... I guess us music lovers are just wired that way....

Did you know that is actually the reason The Lord's Prayer (among hundreds of other Bible verses) were written in the "sing-song" method used for them?

I wouldn't miss church purposely on Christmas Day, but we will be out of town. I have had times like these when I could make it to another church nearby, and times when I couldn't.
