seoul, i wanted to vote in your poll, but there's no "i'd rather starve in a ditch" option. :sneaky:
Do you have to starve to live in a ditch? You could live in a ditch, with chinese takeout.

Kidding, of course. I get the message. You really, really, REALLY don't like going on a cruise ship.

i imagine i'd feel somewhat like a hostage. :giggle:

i'm such a control freak (recovering?). the LAST thing i want is some tour director telling me it's time for shuffleboard.

no with 90K you could easily pay for a decent funeral and still live on the rest. you could then put the rest into savings, RRSPs, GICs and other investments for your family once your gone and increase your finances in the process.
Your reply is rather materialistic, don't you think? A lot of versus from Ecclesiastes is coming to mind. When Jesus talks about a life more abundantly, in context I think most would find he's talking about spiritual, love, peace, contentment and joy abundance.

If you have non-adult children, and/or other family financially dependent on you, then yes, of course I get the materialistic concerns. My '3 years left to live' was just a whimsical notion. But if I was to take it more seriously, of course I'd cover my own burial expenses. I would be looking to do meaningful interpersonal good every day, as seoul was saying, but I wouldn't be working my 9-to-5 (unless I loved it), start investing and go get a part-time job. There's a time for everything.

Canadian's reply was not materialistic. It was practical. Big difference.

But then a lot of Christians jump on people who are being practical and claim they are materialistic. It seems to be a hobby for some people.

Even Jesus was quite practical in many instances in the bible. But I bet some people probably claimed he was materialistic when he told the disciples to gather up the fragments of the loaves and fishes.

True, it was practical, and had a high emphasis on the material. I was more trying to suggest there's a balance, highlight other concerns and that there's a time for everything.

I wonder if they'll let me get away with a burial at sea. Has to be cheaper...
In the navy, you can sail the seven seas, in the navy you can put your mind at ease, in the navy, in the navy, can't you see they need a hand........
Lol

sorry long day

I'm 38, single, unemployed, no children, no wife, no close relationships.
In my case it wouldn't matter what I do with it. The only things I have in life are my possessions.

Can you join the navy when you are single, unemployed, no wife, not children and no close relationships? Wouldnt you be the ideal recruit? If you cant be a sailor you could be an officer and they will train you if you dont have experience.

Or is this a silly question.

Cruise ships are always coming into Aucks so I wonder if this one is included and any CC members on board.
40 days and 40 nights on the ark with all pets sounds enough for me though.

Hey Everyone,

I recently heard about a cruise line launching a 3-year, 'round-the-world cruise that will touch down in over 130 countries and over 350 ports. The starting cost is $90,000, or $30,000 per year.

https://www.afar.com/magazine/life-at-sea-cruises-launches-3-year-135-country-world-cruise

Theoretically, this is supposed to include (this is directly copied from the article):

"Pricing, which includes all meals, drinks (both alcoholic and nonalcoholic), laundry, Wi-Fi, gratuities, housekeeping, and port fees, starts at $90,000 and go up to $330,000 based on accommodations. There isn’t the option to do shorter legs; however, it is possible to go in on one room with family and friends and divvy up the costs with who is on the boat at any given time. The company is also offering a matchmaking scheme, where passengers co-own a cabin with another group and split time on board."

I was talking with my small chat group about whether or not they would be interested in something like this and if they think they could last that long on a ship. I know that I for one would go stir crazy being confined to one place. My daily life might be boring, but we have a dozen grocery stores around here so I can at least mix up my regular chores!

However, even though $30,000 is an awful lot of money, I've lived in or near cities where the cost of living is even higher, so seeing as this is supposed to include meals, laundry, and port fees, some might consider it a bargain -- especially since you can split the costs with others in one cabin.

What do you think?

* If money were no object, would this be something you'd be interested in?

* Could you see yourself tossing everyday life away with the winds of the high seas and living on a ship for 3 whole years?

* What do you think you'd like least and most about a trip like this?

* And if you aren't interested, why not?

I'm going to create what's meant to be a (meant to be) humorous little poll that will seem redundant to the questions I've already asked, hey, why not? :)

It will be multiple choice with visible answers, with some of the options saying the same thing in different ways, but let's just swim with it and have some fun! :)
Is there a church on-board? Is there a way to fellowship with other believers? That's a long time to be disconnected from the Body.

Naturally, If I ever did something so silly....25 years from now they'd make a movie about the insane people that went on this voyage only to get caught in a storm and wash up on some unexplored island where we all slpwly went crazy.
And had one guy with you who constantly messed up rescue attempts, but then saved your lives? Or a hot little farm girl or a sexy starlet or a rich man who just happened to take a suitcase of cash with him? Or a man who seemed to have a degree in... everything?

If money is not an issue... Yes! But not that long lol 😅 3 years is quite long already .... 1 week or more but not more than 2 weeks. Or maybe a maximum of 2 weeks 😅

I love the body of water but I am also not a fan of what's in the deep...I grew up near the sea and also behind us is a big river. I experienced their madness many times that is why I can say that it is not fun specially when a storm is coming or when there is storm(typhoon) how the sea reacts it is quite scary 😶 You try to listen to the sound of the waves at night .... 😶

Lol not discouraging anyone,it is just me. I have friends and relatives who work in a big ship internationally and they seem like they enjoy their job so if you love cruising then go for it ♥️ you have put in a lot of effort towards achieving whatever you have now ☺️ go ahead pamper yourself you deserve it ☺️

I know, three years is a long, long time! Especially being with only those people on the boat. There would probably be people on the ship who would marry, have children, get divorced and remarry before the cruise was finished.

The gigantic waves of the sea always freaked me out a little, even watching them on a screen. During a big storm you might worry about the ship flipping over, like the Poseidon Adventure.

If I did a three-year world cruise, I'd have to be doing a video series about it.

Funny thing, I've heard some updates.

So this particular company couldn't secure a ship and had to cancel the whole shebang. Yeah, it's been a major Titanic of an experience for some people because they sold everything and now the company is only paying them back in installments.

In the meantime, another company has pioneered their own 3-AND-A-HALF-YEAR cruise and it's said that some YouTuber's have paid a pretty penny to go in order to document everything on their channels.

People are betting on predictions of how many divorces, pregnancies, babies born, etc. will happen on the ship during this time.

Crazy!!!

That's too bad about the first one being cancelled. Based on scams you hear about, makes me wonder if the one just cancelled was a scam? Considering they are paying peeps back in installments, what was the organizing individual or company doing with the money pot? You'd think they'd start with 'securing a ship at a price' before they started taking money, or least before taking big money. It would have been in the company's interest to get a number of "bids" so they know what a good price is, and that would also give them plenty of backups if one ship dropped out. :geek:

Funny about the betting on predictions on babies and divorces too! You have any links to the youtubers? Sounds entertaining. :)
