Anyone else wanna share stories on their experience with dating sites?

I wonder if people have found really good friends via a dating site? I think that would be cool. Although I can see it not happening as often.
Yes, I have been on a few Christian dating & fellowship sites over the years, as well as the other two very well-known free dating sites. I’ve met several great friends from the Christian sites through blogs, poetry writing, penpals, & fellowship chats. Even went on a few pleasant dates. But I’m no longer a member of those sites. CC membership is much better anyhow. :giggle:(y)

As for the other 2 other dating sites, well… I never had the courage to meet anyone from those. Plenty of men in my age group, and plenty younger, too. Most have absolutely no interest in my life in Christ, in my family, hobbies, talents, my goals, etc.

The sad thing is, if you don’t post pictures, you get little to no replies. When you do post your photos, all the emails you receive are about your appearance and they want to meet ASAP. Also, they often request additional photos. So any qualities you have get overlooked because their interest is only in the physical. Once in a blue moon you might get a nice conversation going with a decent person, but they’re usually too far away or too young or too old. Nevertheless, I managed to find a few good people with whom I’ve exchanged texts or emails about current events or politics. Friends only.

Hello Aunty, yup, I can relate...

Your post has me wanting to share something I just read

Young minds think physical attraction completes a relationship; one should establish standards before physical attraction takes hold.

One reason I don't like putting to much personal info out there (like location) I was like you Steph. At the time I was like 21/22 and the guy was in his 60's...….. But the creepy thing was that based on location I was about an hour away. His opening line was something like
"hi I see you are near me. I want you to come clean my house and we'll see where it goes from there...…"
CREAPY
You're "creep-o-meter" is functioning well. Quoting to echo that stuff like that STAY AWAY from to anyone that is moving around in dating circles with anything that seems "off". Always meet at a public place...preferably after lots and lots of communication. There should also be no difficulty in you taking a brother or a friend either to a first meet. There are some scary individuals out there and online dating has risks. I would treat every person with utmost suspicion but to allow a crack of the door for the Lord to move if that is his intention.

There is no reason to not exercise caution and take precautions. It may not be the format for you...I've considered it and oddly there was a point where I was super frustrated with my status quo and almost in anger went on Christian mingle. 3rd profile I saw was the very person that expressed a tentative interest in me at church. Super coincidental. Still open to that relationship...but so far any effort on my part has been met by a brick wall.

Agreed. Safety is number one and if a person doesn’t agree with that they by no means should be spoken to any longer. Online or offline.

I dont really want to share my horror stories but just to say dont do it it not worth the hassle and risk. Cos there are dodgy people out there and predators and I did call the police on one occasion.

Although the harmeless ones... I met a guy that said he lived right next door to a church but didnt go. He said he was a christian. But then he didnt want to talk about his faith. But it didnt work out cos hes allergic to seafood and I love it. Also he was a control freak neatnik and Im a messy.

The other guy I only went out with once because he lived all the way across town and it was never going to work in my town with its traffic issues. He was raised in church and did the sound desk or something. Which was kinda interesting but I am not a muso and musician types and techies I cant really relate to. I kinda prefer my christian music to be unplugged.
