Looks like rodents got 1 vote so far and also 1 vote for dogs. This isn't even close.

If a leaf falls in a forest, but nobody is around, do they not hear a cat bark at it?
No, simply because that cat is not there. You said nobody is around, and since a cat is a body, it therefore can't be around. :D

I notice there isn't a poll option for giraffes being a favorite pet. This is discrimination or...something.

To be fair I haven't had a dog in years. I've rescued many cats, I love them, I think because they aren't needy, well they need low, food and care, but I've never had a cat sniff my crotch or lick my face.

And now, an idea straight from the streams, yes it's your very own thread. Dogs versus Cats. Who will win, who will lose? Or will it all be a tie? And now, LET THE GAMES BEGIN.
C'mon, this is the internet, it's already clear who will win. :p

that's very sad :(

did you know Jim Davis, the man who created Garfield, is allergic to cats? but he grew up on a farm with a fat orange cat he loved but couldn't be around -- which is why he started drawing little cartoons of one .. :)

at least, that's the 'urban legend' i've heard. not bothering to look it up.

a dog a delighted to see you when you come home.
a cat is wondering where in the world you've been...tapping a little foot...
well, obviously i'm bias, because i have between 6 and 10 cats (depending on definition of "have" -- ok i feed and house 9, but 4 are rescued feral cats that are more like room-mates than pets, and another doesn't really live here but hangs out in the yard pretty often)

anyway what i was going to say is that whenever i'm gone and come home again, 3 of them always run towards the door to greet me, and one even starts getting hissy and biting at my shoes if i don't pick him up and give him a greeting hug.

i have and have had a lot of cats, with all kinds of personalities. of the 9 or 10 i have, i can tell who's who just by hearing them meow, and each has a pretty big meow vocabulary.
all the dogs i've ever met seem to have one of maybe 3 different personalities, and i'm pretty sure dog language consists of less than ten words total.

some cats "pay rent" by bringing home various bird, bug, reptile and rodent carcasses.
no dog has ever offered to share his food with me.

with dogs you have to go to a store and buy toys and snacks.
with cats you just turn on a porch light and grab a couple moths. voila, toy and snack all in one.

no one will ever call the police on you because your cat is meowing too loudly in the backyard, keeping the whole neighborhood awake.

you will never develop tinnitus because the police made you bring your loudly meowing cat inside.
you won't get a second visit from the cops at 2am because even though your cat is now inside, it's still keeping the neighbors up.

While I was growing up we always had at least one cat. I have never had a cat pee in my bed. Or in anyone else's bed. Our cats always knew where to go when they had to go.

I went to sleep many a night with a cat sleeping in my bed though. Usually on my stomach, purring. It was such a comfort and I got so accustomed to it that for a time there I had trouble going to sleep unless I had a cat purring on my stomach.

posthuman you forgot one: A cat will never bowl you over in his haste to get outside, inside, to his food dish, etc. One, they don't have the mass. Two, I've never had a cat run headlong into me like many dogs have. Cats seem to have a better sense of direction and sense of location of objects in their area.

Also a cat usually doesn't fall in with a pack of other cats and go around the neighborhood causing trouble like certain canine gangs I know.

Also I've never had any cat that dug holes in my yard, like a certain mutt I know does. If I have to get the shovel and fill in one more hole the shovel might accidentally turn up on his head.

our 29 yo daughter will holler out the kitchen window at her cat.
Kenya's sitting under the bird feeders (innocently...yeah)
and our girl yells, Kenya! stop bird shopping!

that cat's a lousy mouser, but boy can she snatch a bird out of mid air.
momma's not pleased over it, either, but she's such a sweet cat, whaddaya gonna do? :)

You have never met Angry Cat. Angry cat is a feral who likes to argue with my cat, (currently living with my mom who decided to steal him, because she didn't think he would do well in the apartment I live in. But I digress.) Anyway, at 2:00 A.M., Angry Cat likes to have voice off with my cat. I guarantee you, that the whole neighborhood can hear it. Still surprised that my mom's next door neighbor has not trapped angry cat and moved it.

Hachiko -- One of the most touching and powerful stories of loyalty

Balto - saved not only his owner, but an entire town dying of illness

List of individual dogs - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dogs = The Hero animal. I vote thusly. My favorite type of animal also happens to be a wolf/wolves, so...

Foxes also happen to belong to the same canine family, so... ^_~ *out foxed again*

i LOVE that movie. it's a sentimental favorite for reasons that i suppose are related in part to my circumstances when i saw it. at the time i had an akita too (the best dog EVAR, mya) that who bore a striking resemblance to the dog that was used in the movie.

it took my YEARS to even think about watching that movie again.

Depends on how either one is cooked. Cats do much better with dry heat...cat stew/cat soup, no go. Dog works okay in moist applications, though. They respond to dry applications if done right, kind of like fish.
