So this thread caused me to look up women's clothing with pockets on Google, and there's this thing for women what's called "skinny cargo pocket pants." What the heck? The only reason on earth for cargo pants is to store a bunch of stuff. What are these I don't even...

I recently got myself a “Mary Poppins” hand bag. It holds everything
and more!

I got wondering what kind of handbags you like.

Also if you are a man where do you put your stuff, do you have a man bag
or try to stuff everything in your pockets!

Are you a dainty bag person which holds a phone and pretty much nothing else,
or a sack packed for everything eventually. Ya know, earthquake, famine, flood.

Maybe you are more of a bum bag person.

Anyway here is my new bag modelled by Alice who likes it very much. Secretly I
think she wants to live in it! :D

As to why it’s a “Mary Poppins” bag, it starts off as this. Smart neat.

Adjust a few clips and it opens up like this, shopping bag.

It even becomes big enough for Alice to sit in and she’s piling on the pounds
a bit now. But shush don’t tell her I said so! :)

Those are ornamental pockets. I don't know if they are even real pockets or just sewn-on flaps and rectangles to imitate pockets. Even if they are real pockets, they are not intended to actually be USED. They are just for show.

Also I hate to think how painful it is to walk in those. As much as they are compressing the muscles in the thigh and calf, those muscles can't possibly flex like they are supposed to.

I have a few purses but don't use them much. I wear capris mostly and carry my phone and keys in the pockets, but not much else. I like using a light-weight backpack for carrying my ID, wallet, cards, etc. because I walk and hike all the time.

I like the little purple teddy bear too. :)

Alice is a very special bear, number 753 of only a 1000 made.
They are called silver tag teddy bears.

Alice is also very special because she reminds me of my aunt, same expression,
and also wear aprons!

I have two others James and Mason but they are not really into
women’s handbags. Maybe I should introduce them to the angle grinder thread!

Too small!

We used to go flea marketing, but I never liked carrying a bunch of bags, plus my pocketbook. Enter the gym bag.

Still not big enough. So went with backpack with wheels. (I used to go meat shopping and lugged home 12 pounds of meat and some fresh produce in it. lol)

Unfortunately, when it's on my back, I'm twice as wide (front to back) as I normally am, so a bit hard to use it
crowded elevators and stores. (I live in Philly. We don't have uncrowded public places. lol)

When John was in rehab, I had to bring lots of stuff home and lots of stuff back. (You know why from when your aunt is in the hospital. It's even worse in rehab, because they demanded the patients wear clean clothes every day, and it was better to bring clothes home to wash, for fear of losing them, if the nursing home cleaned them.) Backpack wasn't big enough. Tried to find a "new bag" in the luggage department, but never found a girly bag. The closest they had were baby bags, which is a whole different territory. (I'm not carrying a bag with bottles and rattles on it. Just not. lol)

I've had to settle. My current bag is as small as you're little bag, once you open it up full width. Still looking for new girly gym bag.

Isn't it dumb trying to carry four bags of groceries while maintaining something as simple as a bag on our shoulder? Why can't they make one big enough to carry four bags of groceries, our wallet, keys, phone, emergency-candy, aspirin, and music all in one bag? All it needs is lots of deep pockets on the inside.

(BTW, Spaulding tells Alice that bags aren't for hiding in. They're helioplaneship bagcars to fly or travel on or under the ocean in.)

I know that feeling, I’ve got a variety of large “to big to carry holdalls”.
They arrive at hospital heavy but then come home lighter as bits and pieces go missing.

Although last time when I unpacked we had a hospital pillow stuffed in one!

Oh and now I have a bag big enough to sit in, Alice wants to go to work with me!
I keep telling her she would just get bored.

I had this old lady Coach handbag I got from the outlet mall in Calgary. It literally hurt my shoulder when it was full. (More later on full!)

Then, this winter, I dug out one of my daughter's old university back packs and used it to go to College, I had about 5 books, a binder full of paper and handouts, and all kinds of odds and ends, including pencils, erasers, gum, throat lozenges and anything else. It didn't hurt my shoulder at all.

So, I thought, I need a back pack purse. I did find one, but it was cheaply made. So, I passed it by.

Then in February, we went to Bellis Fair outlet mall near Bellingham Washington. I found a blue leather, much fancier Coach back pack purse, on sale for 70% off. How much the original price was, I don't know, but it was a good deal.

I love that purse! It does NOT hurt my shoulders. I can fit my wallet, which probably has more in it than most men carry in a month, any kind of drug container, including asthma inhalers (3), headphones, condiments, lip gloss, eye drops, flash cards in multiple languages, tea bags, food/snacks, dental floss, hair brush and other makeup, several packages of Kleenex, many pencils and pens, rulers, my phone, and my iPad if need be.

Like Miri's purse, it definitely once belonged to Mary Poppins, it expands to take whatever I want it to take. Definitely, the perfect purse for a pack rat like me!

If'n you can say that it isn't the same width as you when wearing it, I officially have purse-envy. lol

Personal opinion? I think the pockets are to accentuate that her upper legs aren't as skinny as her lower legs.

AND, dagnabit! One of the things I thoroughly enjoyed when I was young was how unlike our parents we were. Notice the difference between 1930s music and 1950s music. Notice the difference between 1950's music and 1970s music. Notice the difference in fashion styles, cars, any cultural tastes? We were seriously into not-like-our-parents.

What bothers me is music, fashion taste, cultural tastes have NOT changed since the early 80s! Rap -- started in the 80s, and still going on. Skinny jeans -- early 80s and still going strong. Droopy pants -- early 80s and still going on. American Idol like music -- early 80s and still going on!

Don't you get it? You're supposed to be not-like-my-parents, not like-my-parents! Y'all need something new, different, something that smacks of We-are-here!-Deal-with-it! You younger generations took conformity to new lows! Rise up! Do something different! You're supposed to annoy older generations for doing something different. You're annoying me because you're not! I bore easily. lol

(Oh, and your third generation of this conformity crazy, so can't really blame you. Just having fun with you. lol)

This is what we call a purse. :)

Get rid of the outside zipper, add pockets to the outside, and pockets to that middle divider, give room in the middle for family pictures, and I would call that "my wallet that goes into my purse." lol

I like crossbody purses. The one I use now is a Fossil in a caramel color. It's neutral so it goes with everything. I know Fossil is a little pricey...but I use the same purse for about 2-3 years. I love this one so far! It looks something like this.
