Being in a kingdom of spiders would be better than Shangri-La to me.
A movie that had a spider scene that I like a lot is Krull. I couldn't wait until it was on tv when I was kid just to see the giant spider lol.

That's smashing. Oats are amazing. I have canisters of oats everywhere. I love to put oats into anything I can put oats into. I have them every morning. A friend of mine says I'm going to live forever lol.

I was thinking this movie was before Star Trek because he looked so young. It was also the B movie set that didn't look so post modern as Star Trek.

I've raised a few varieties of tarantulas, so I can relate. I always found them, if not bizarre at first, interesting. Mexican Red Knees were my favorite.

Tarantulas, and all spiders, are amazing. I think you are the only person I know of that has no fear of them. Of course, you don't seem to have much fear of anything (not in the critter world, at least)

A glass of water from a waitress is a lot different than the subjects we've been talking about.

For something like that, it's easy to see why a routine answer -- repeated enough times -- would work. Besides, she's got other people to wait on and can't keep asking about someone's unique request all day. But she might be worried about being seen as not giving good service if she doesn't entertain it for at least a few rounds.

It's a lot different for deeper subjects and more complex dynamics. For instance, I like music, but I could take it or leave it, and there are a hundred other things I'd rather spend my time and money on -- but most music lovers wouldn't let it go if I gave that routine answer over and over.

They'd want to know why. But even a detailed answer wouldn't be enough.

And, God bless their well-meaning hearts, they would keep mentioning songs, always trying to convert me.

I think tone is important in getting across to people. Many people try to keep a friendly tone, even if they answer directly. Or use softer wording. Or both.
If I am getting pushed about something I've answered or don't want to give an answer to, my tone changes. Normally I'm a soft spoken person, but when pushed my voice goes very stern, my facial expression is clear and my wording is straight to the point. People can tell immediately I'm not playing. Especially since it's so opposite of how i normally speak.
People will push boundaries sometimes. And those getting pushed too often keep getting pushed for not taking a stronger stand and instead worry about being polite. That person pushing is not being polite, clearly they don't care. It's rare people keep pushing me once I make that switch. And those that don't, I leave behind. They obviously have no respect for others.

My parents were open to me learning about and keeping animals. I found a colorful black widow with racing stripes. Mom was fine with me keeping it in a sealed terrarium, a big gallon jar as a kid. 6thor 7th grade
People often fear what they don't understand. One of the biggest keys to overcoming fear is having an open mind to learning about those scary creatures. That doesn't mean that I don't respect the power of something to harm, like a crocodilian. But once I learn about them and the safety rules, I can choose to identify them, and use the safety rules to be safe.
For example, You must have been able to differentiate between harmless water snakes and venomous ones because you took the effort to learn about them. Your family exposed you to them in a reasonable manner, so you had an advantage over your friends in many things. You enjoyed God's creation, eating fresh fish and have fond memories that can be built upon.

Hmm. This puts me in a bit of a dilemma...

Now I'm debating on whether or not I should do something in my own thread to put myself in the Penalty Box just so I can try CarriePie's Vegemite!

I always read ingredient labels. I'm not so sure I want any . Maybe it's something like scrapple or dog slobbers. She didn't seem too thrilled about it to start with. 🤔

Now I'm not practicing what I teach.
I can hold a tarantula but have a suspicion with the ingredient in a song. Hmmm.

I saw it too years ago at Fort Polk, Louisiana while participating in a major war exercise during a rare few hours off. Later, when the games were over and the squad was together, they played another type of movie. I won't go into detail on what that movie was about. I will say however that there was not much of a plot. For both movies actually.

They were trying to get you grunts used to the idea of eating snakes and frogs if you ran outta mres. The critters probably would've been better.

They are asking because they want a tip. If you order a drink, then they expect a tip, especially if they can provide a refill. If you are eating alone, they will often ignore you because they don't think they'll get a tip or as much as if you were with your gal.

Being exposed to the great outdoors at a young age is important, in my viewpoint. I was fortunate to have parents and grandparents that exposed me to the outdoors and wildlife at a very early age. They'd have even been repulsed if I hadn't taken a liking to the outdoors and critters. My mother was taking me to her favorite swimming hole in the country when I was a baby and she didn't put my playpen inside, it was always outside. We lived near the woods.
Dad influenced me to have an interest in spiders and insects, so when I started school I was out looking for creepy crawlies instead of playing in the playground. Then I'd bring them into class
I thought this way of life was normal back then. As I got older I started to realize that a lot of people didn't have that exposure. I think it's sad for them, and many think it's sad for me lol.
