In a world that is so saturated with entertainment and things to do, America, as a culture and as people, declare "I'm BORED!" Look what comes of it: frustration, being an annoyance to those around you, lack of creativity, stupid decisions. It's ridiculous. A lot of children hardly know how to play pretend anymore or have some sort of imagination, or get their fingers messy with actual paint instead of just drawing on their iPad. Granted, I know messes are a pain to clean up, but I feel like getting messy is part of being a kid.

I know we're not kids, here, but if you're bored, go do something. Learn a new hobby. Read a book. Take a cooking class or a dancing class. Research something new that interests you. Take a walk. Meet your neighbors. Draw something. Go minister to your neighbors, rake leaves, bake cookies for nursing home residents and take a friend with you to talk to those people. I'm sure they're lonely and would love company. Volunteer. Read your Bible. The list just goes on and on.

I rarely get bored in my free time. I'm quite good at entertaining myself. Where I tend to get bored is at work, on slow days, but then I'll either just research stuff online (or get on CC...whoops) or clean and straighten things or talk with my coworkers and get to know them more and just find things to do.

The expectation to be constantly entertained is just...saddening, really.

I tell my students that boredom means you aren't intelligent enough to entertain yourself. They stop whining after that.

Ok, let me add these things to my list for my goal of inching my way into the hearts of Nod My Head and MissCris...

#215 - don't get bored
216 - don't act bored
217 - don't act like a mime (that ones gonna hurt)
218 - don't bring up Nod's dad in conversation

300 more and I'm gonna make my move. They'll never know what hit them.
MissCris is married, you might want to be careful on that one!!!

I think many times 'bored' is another way of saying 'i'm not happy'. Not necessarily right at that moment, but with their life in general. Kind of a lack of contentment. But, just like how someone hurt manifests their hurt by expressing anger, the discontent person manifests this through feelings of boredom.
So i do know the feeling of how annoying it can be to hear that over and over, but i also have been that person to say it over and over. I've never met a generally happy person always saying they're bored.
Therefore it may be wise, rather than get annoyed with this person, see this as a symptom of a deeper sense of unhappiness. Maybe a muffled, or unconscious, cry for help. This could explain why a busy mom (such as Cristens sister) is always bored. She's not bored. She's unhappy with part or all of her life. Or maybe just burnt out and overwhelmed and having trouble coping.

I... just realized that I don't think I've ever been bored. Maybe? Surely at some point, right? How would I know if I was? 0.o

Hmm... Many people are saying they don't have the time to be bored because of all the stuff they have to do (which I can agree with), but I also disagree with it. I mean just because you have something to do doesn't mean you can't be bored. I'm bored in school all the time, but it's not like i'm not busy with it. Sitting in class listening to some teacher yap isn't much fun, and sometimes I zone them out without even realizing it. I get bored while doing homework... bleh...

So sometimes I can't help but get bored, because the activity i'm doing I find boring. :D But yes complaining about it isn't necessary, especially if you think you have nothing to do. It just makes you seem negative.

Occasionally, I grow bored. I think we all do. But most of the time I can occupy myself with books, movies, music, the Internet (discussion forums etc), drawing, writing stories, going for a walk. Also, friends and family, when they're available. It's pretty difficult for me to be bored.

JUUUUUSTTTT making sure. :p Gotta protect family. Even if I'm a pain. :D
No worries AlaynaJ! Just another feeble attempt at humor by me. It's painfully clear I shouldn't have written anything like that - even got a couple of PMs about it! So thanks for looking out for your friends!

People get bored because their external locus of control dominates them.

External Locus of Control is defined as...

The belief that events in one’s life, whether good or bad, are caused by uncontrollable factors such as the environment, other people, or a higher power.

So those that get bored are relying on others to provide some sort of entertainment. It could even be argued those who become bored on a regular basis do not (or were not taught to) have the skills to entertain themselves. They may even be spoiled to some degree.

I don't get bored. There's school, the internet, I have 1,500 books on my kindle, TV, Netflix, CC (and y'all know I'm here a lot), church, various coffee meeting... things..., etc. Oh, and sleep is ALWAYS a good time. Speaking of sleep, I should return to it.

Thanks MC. It's cyclic for me here at CC. I spend the first day saying stuff and the next day apologizing for it.

Feels like home!
