Lynx is much more modest than most will ever know.

One of the reasons he chooses the single life is because he cooks, cares for, chauffeurs, and helps provide for a beloved family member.

He had a place of his own and independent life, but gave it all up to make sure this relative is safe, comfortable, and able to live in familiar surroundings. Without him, this lovely person could not live this way.

I know because I spent a week with them and saw all the hard work, commitment, and sacrifice he makes for everyone around him but never says a word about it, let alone complains. He counts it as a joy to serve others and does so without hesitation.

May God hear and remember those, both married and single, who are treated with such contempt and utter dismissal.
Wonderful testimony.

Why does that inspire you?
Commitment to family, and working harder than some healthy young people after having 10 kids... that's more than sufficient to impress me because... I don't see that much? It was more than that, anyway- she was modest, polite... y'know, biblical virtues and what not.

Singles, especially older singles, are generally viewed as that odd group of people that meet in that room at the far end of the hall. It's thought that since they are single and don't have lives, that surely they have plenty of time to do things around the church. There's not anything wrong with helping out, but it's almost expected of single folks.

No, married people are not superior.
That would need some serious research. But who opened this can of worms?

What we do know from Scripture is that God ordained marriage and gave the married a commission to fulfil: So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.

People cannot be fruitful and multiply without marriage.

Jesus never married, nor did John the Baptist, and Jesus said none born among women was greater than John.

With that passage we have to ask: is that a command to all people at all times, or was that a command specifically to the first man and woman because there were no other people on earth at that time and God intended for there to be more people.

It saddens me that singles are seen as being so worthless within the church.

All the single friends I have know all about these things and more, because they are providing for/raising and caring for family members, whether young children, cousins, elderly parents, etc.

Most do so without any help or support from a partner, no one to listen to it support them, or even acknowledge that they are giving up their own lives for the needs of others, all without any benefits of marriage.

One of the biggest discriminations in church is that it's ok to bow out for family reasons or to spend time working on your marriage, but it's lack of spiritual passion for singles (who have no one else caring for them) to bow out to take care of themselves when they need it.

I’m married.

I’m not superior.

Singles are always seen as the dumping ground.

God bless the married who take care of both their families and their aging parents, as God commands us to honor our father and mother.

But I continually see married Christians completely dumping all of the responsibilities of their elderly on the singles in the family, citing that they are too busy with their own family to help out.

And then to somehow say that singles are lesser and know nothing about commitment to family, hard work, or sacrifice?

May God Himself be the judge of that.

I was going to mention the same. Some are able to adopt. Others are not able to.

Well, I've heard someone say from the pulpit that you can't really understand the image of god without being married, because god created us in his image male and female. Part of me wanted to confront him and ask him to explain how Jesus didn't truly understand the image of god. And I've heard assertions from people here and there trying to say that marriage makes you a better person- but while it might have helped make them a better person, all you have to do is take a look around to see that it's not marriage itself that does that.
Well, Lord Jesus is going to get married!

I've been single/married/single. The marriage lasted 9 years. So I've been single since 1995. Some people have to be married. They are not able to be alone. Others, like me, are OK with being single. There is no best option. Marriage can be used by God to break down selfish and independent attitudes. No one can hide their true self once they are married.

Single people have more time and opportunity to serve others. But it is also a noble pursuit to raise a family to know Lord Jesus and God's word. Timothy was no doubt greatly influenced by his believing mother and grandmother. And obviously, there would have been no Timothy without marriage.

This however doesn't imply that those who are not married and therefore cannot be fruitful and multiply are somehow less in status or worth ect than those who can..
Being fruitful and being able to multiply doesn't refine a person any more than not being unable to do so due to not being married.
There are certain things God has permitted us to do that some are unable to do as christians due to circumstances beyond their control..
About marriage Paul even said it would even be better not to marry due to the committment to a spouse vs ones commitment to the lord.

So if we were all Christian, we wouldn't have the current population problem... especially in China...

Nah it most probably wouldn't make much difference really...only God knows that one for sure.😊....plus I guess it would be a different thread created for that alone as the bible says God made us..so even when non Christian's have babies those babies have still been created by God even though the biological parents are not even Christian.?.Opps hope I haven't opened a can of beans here..🤣

'Anyway back to the point you made...Its more about the context in which the human population takes place rather than its size.'

Uh... you did.
What if that is in fact true? The very fact that married life takes sacrifice, commitment, hard work, multiple skills, and dedication, all adds up.
This right here. This is where the can opener was applied.

This ain't a pissing contest. We don't have to prove one is better than the other.

This thread is SUPPOSED to be about being happy with what you have.

Thank you Lynx, for sparing me the trouble of pointing this out. Nehemiah 6 opened the can of worms -- we're just pointing out which ones there are to choose from.

I too have been married, and then single by force, as he chose another wife.

I have nothing but respect for the married.

But I will also fight tooth and nail to do my best to make sure that singles are not forgotten, overlooked, looked down upon, or taken advantage of by marrieds, as I have seen and experienced myself so many times, because I know this is NOT how God wants them to be treated.

And of course, it could happen the other way around, but as someone who was given no other choice by her former husband but to be so, I tend to fight the fight I know best, which is that of a longtime single.
