Well, I can't just eat anything that's put on my plate. I like food that is tasty and which can satisfy my appetite. It also has to look and smell appetizing.

I would like it to be traditional and non-vegan...

Maybe even a large buffet..

Well, any traditional food is okay as long as it wouldn't bite me back.

Please don't groan.. if we are talking of lawnchairs and chocolates, we can always talk about food!

My exotic Indian girlfriend, Aloo Gobi.

Aloo-Gobi-Curry-1.jpg

She's a saucy minx.
But she's mine.

You have to find your own gurry (girl curry).

Traditional food in my family was:
Sauerkraut and pork at Thanksgiving (as a side)
Saturday night home-made pizza with rootbeer floats and The Magical World of Disney
Creamed corn (mom's recipe)
Mom's brownies (original)
Runzas (also known as Kraut Burgers in different places)

Actually, my dear brother, I was the one who introduced her name to you. Picture this -

Tintin: Hi, Miss, Errrr.....
Ms. Aloo Gobi: *glares at him* *stomps away*

Yeah, that's what would have happened if I didn't tell you her name.

Anyway, my chic's name is New Yorker Steak. She's a woman of substance.

If we were still together after the next 30 years, I would sing for her the classic single "Love will keep us alive" by the Eagles. ;)

Oooh. You like a woman with a bit of meat on her bones? Nice.

As for Ms. Aloo Gobi, I knew my current gurry beforehand. Indian friends of mine, Raj-kumari and Raj-bir, introduced me her. It was love at first bite. What a woman! Not too hot, not to cold-shouldered. Just enough spice to keep things nice. Yes, you helped me remember how to correctly pronounce her name, and for that I am thankful, but brother, please don't think you set me up with her.

Ah, I am glad you've found your gurry, Tintin. I wish you have a pleasant time when you visit her parents Mr. and Mrs. Aloo Paratha. They are a crisp and appetizing couple. ;)

True, brother. Unfortunately they're rather strict. It's best to keep my stay short. Problem is I can't stop visiting them, over and over again!

I don't know if it's traditional, but I've been Looking For a Provolone Cheese that ISN'T smoked.

It's an odd thing. I usually loved smoked foods. BUT NOT CHEESE. Cheese and smoke should never mix!!!

I love provolone and years ago could find it plain, but now (in the limited number of stores we have here) all I can find is smoked. ARGH.

I haven't had a good roast beef-and-provolone sandwich in ages. For me, that was a sandwich tradition!

Haha, you guys make me laugh :). And Kim is right! No smoked cheese for me, either. Try Sam's Club if they have a store near you, Kim. Tasty!

(Typically, you only have to ask your grocer. I am with you on the smoked provolone. Though I DO like smoked cheese)

dang... you guys are really missing out. : D

one of my favorite things in life??? smoked gouda.

and i really, REALLY loved this smoked sliced swiss
until they discontinued that product.

as much as i love some of these smoked cheeses, they are really versatile and often, i prefer smoked cheese less commonly for snacks (although, not unheard of). however, i love smoked gouda in a lot of recipes, especially (homemade) mac and cheese and another cheese.

smoked fontina is amazing on sandwiches, especially an italian turkey sandwich i will occasionally make.

also, when i make tomato bisque, i love to add this smoked blue cheese (pictured below), added in chunks. it's also excellent as one of the cheeses in mac and cheese.

finally, i occasionally prefer the unsmoked provolone cheese. i know that stella, sargento, and frigo all have unsmoked provolone in the deli. also, walmart sells an unsmoked provolone in slices in the cheese aisle.

oh gosh, i am such a cheese addict. : D

I struggle with how someone who does not like smoked cheeses can even consider themselves "saved."

Alas, I have looked for unsmoked provo in all the stores here, and the ONE time I thought I'd hit the jackpot (I think it was in Walmart), I read through the ingredients and it said, "Smoke Flavoring," even though the heading and description made no mention of smoke!! ARGH. Talk about feeling sliced and diced!!

However, I'm pretty sure that if anyone could convince me to like cheese that's huffed and puffed, I would imagine it would be gypsy. I don't like blue cheese, but tomato bisque sounds excellent (oddly enough, I don't like tomatoes either... unless they're cooked into a sauce or soup.)

In a few more days, I'm meeting with some friends and looking forward to a good old-fashioned "traditional" time of pure culinary hedonism!!! :D

(Just read Cat's post... LOL.)

I'M saved, Cat.

My tastebuds, however, may have yet to taste a hint of salvation.

You really, really, really need to get your hands (and mouth) around some of Rogue Creamery's Smokey Blue. I use it in my smoked blue cheesecake and it really IS TDF.

One of my customers here made a smoked swiss, except he over-smoked it and there is a plasticine quality to it that I find disturbing, but the addition of salt helps a great deal.

Your tastebuds have been redeemed with the rest of you, but not yet having been transformed. ;)

I'm sorry, I love cheeses (and He loves me), but I just can't do blue cheese.
