letters to corinthians says if there is a spiritual gift to covet it would be to prophesy and we all ought to ask for this gift...so everyone has access to this gift IF THEY ASK for it.

so unlike in the Old testament when there was maybe just one prophet for the entire nation and nobody really listened to them (and there were many over the years) in the new testament everyone can prophesy who believes. Because we have faith.

Whats funny is that the woman at the well who had the five husbands had a chat with Jesus where he talked with her how the one she was living with now was NOT her husband and she says 'I see you are a prophet'

lol opposite of what people here are saying that its best to prophesy that someone else will get married how about prophesying that someone wont!

Well, I've only have this happen once. At the time I became a Christian my marriage was as they say on the rocks. I had been at church one evening (can't remember if it was Sunday evening or midweek), and I got a lift home by an older gentleman. We were chatting in his car parked outside my house and he told that he had just heard from the Lord that 1. My wife would be saved, and 2. My marriage would work out fine in the end.

Well to cut a long story short neither happened 1. now my Ex and 2. divorced. I was a just saved by probably a few months at that time. Thankfully I had an older brother who had been saved for years, and he walked with me through an extremely difficult time.

I'm not bad mouthing the gentleman, he's passed away and with the Lord now.. But, this is one of the reasons I would be cautious of people proclaiming prophecies on your life. Or just in general. I have witnessed others giving out prophecies as if they where sweeties for none of them to come true.

All I will say is I'll stick to what I know is true... God's true, trusted and steadfast word. I'm not saying that God can't use other people or talk to you directly, but it will always line up with scripture and what is actually happening. His word is sufficient for me.

My wife prophesied over a janitor many years ago, very detailed, about how he would lead a ministry. I forget all the details, but it was quite elaborate. Years later, he contacted her online and told her how all those things had come to pass.
