I mean, I have to point out that the guy is from Alaska.
Maybe he was pretty far from the hospital, or couldn't afford it.
And besides, he's probably all tough and manly,..being around the Alaskan wilderness and all.

Just put the neosporin on there, and mummy wrap his head in bandages and duct tape. He's all set.

Hey, don't knock natural medicine. Some of it does work. I'm a strong believer that one needs to use both holistic as well as modern day practices. Some things, like allergies or colds, do not necessarily require a doctor's help. Other things, such as a gun shot to the head, well maybe you should highly consider going to the ER.
One of my biggest problems with western medicine (specifically American) is that very little research is done on natural remedies because there is no money in it. If a pharmaceutical company were to discover that a common herb or other natural product cured cancer the research would end up being suppressed because a naturally occurring substance cannot be patented thus they cannot make any money at it.

Take, for example, Type II diabetes. It is predominantly caused by bad diet and being overweight yet most doctors rather than deal with having to take the time to counsel a person about their diet, excercise, etc. they throw the person on insulin which over the long term destroys the body's ability to naturally regulate it's own blood sugar levels. A common spice found in most households (cinnamon) has been found to work wonders at helping the body to normalize blood sugar levels yet you will likely never hear that from an MD in the US because the research wasn't done here in the US by an FDA regulated laboratory.

Oh man, think about how many people have poured their millions of dollars into a Polio Vaccine, cause Big Pharma got rich off that one.

Oh wait, nope, there is no patent. So everyone could get it at the lowest possible cost.

"...during his famous television interview with Edward R. Murrow, he did not mention that the lawyers from the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis had looked into patenting the Salk Vaccine and concluded that it could not be patented because of prior art – that it would not be considered a patentable invention by standards of the day. Salk implied that the decision was a moral one, but Jane Smith, in her history of the Salk Vaccine,
Patenting the Sun, notes that whether or not Salk himself believed what he said to Murrow, the idea of patenting the vaccine had been directly analyzed and the decision was made not to apply for a patent mainly because it would not result in one."

The Real Reason Why Salk Refused to Patent the Polio Vaccine | BIOtechNow

Whether this is the truth or not, this does show that there maybe another side to the no patent on polio vaccine.

Just to let everyone know, I do not agree or disagree with vaccines. I believe everyone should do their research before having vaccines and decide whether the benefits outweigh the risks. Also, you should discuss this with your doctor, especially if you have certain types of complications, such as allergies, or health conditions that may put you at risk if you take the vaccines.

Development of the Salk vaccine was paid for by the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis (now known as the March of Dimes) a non-profit research organization that relies on donations thus technically there were no "investors" that needed to see a financial return on their investment. Depending on which website you choose to believe the lack of proprietary patenting was either due to humanitarian reasons or because under patent laws of the time the vaccine would not have qualified.

Unfortunately pharmaceuticals have become a multi-billion dollar business and outside of non-profits like March of Dimes, St. Judes and others there is a huge investment dollar to be repaid.

PS from different articles I've read American's consume more prescription medications per capita than any other developed nation.

lets just put this here... Big Pharma invents conditions just so they call push pills and make money (add, adhd for example) big pharma waves cash in front of doctors (push these pills and you will make money) thus doctors have pretty much become legalized drug dealers.

Absolutely, we are a luxury medicated society. There's every birth control pill under the sun, Viagra and anti-depressants galore. I don't see how a world that makes such wonderful thing could be bad.

Look at these pills, isn't it neat. Wouldn't you think my pharmacy's complete.

Wouldn't you think we're the country, the place that has everything.

Look in a store, the treasures untold.

How many drugs can one cabinet hold?

Looking around here you'd think, "Sure we've got everything."

I've red ones and blue ones aplenty.

Soft ones and hard ones galore.

Perscription bottles, I've got 20.

But who cares, no big deal, I WANT MOOOOOOOORRRREEE!!

I want to take what the people take, I want to feel, almost nothing.

Walking around with those, what do you call em? oh Scripts!

Without our drugs we don't get too far, meds are required for jumping dancing!
