Pen pals?

I have a boy at school asking me if I can post a letter to their friend. I have to figure out their address and say to him he has to put their letter in an envelope with their address on it and a stamp.

my dad used to work for the post. he said sometimes they got letters with the email address on the envelope.

If anyone wants me to mail them handwritten letters let me know. This is a lost art form that I think needs resuscitation. I wrote one the other day and I wasn't sure if I even remembered how to write cursive!

I seriously think I'm having flashbacks here.

I had a friend I used to communicate with via letters and cassette tapes, too! And they weren't those amateur 60-minute cassette tapes, either-- they were the high falutin', this-is-serious-business, 45-minutes-on-each side tapes.

Seriously.

Looking back, I have NO idea what two 15-year-old girls could have POSSIBLY had to talk about for 90 minutes for each exchange, but somehow we totally worked it like a boss!

Did you keep the tapes? That would have been priceless

I remember in jr high youth group we all were at a winter retreat and we had a piece of paper that we had to write a short paragraph of what you liked about that person and passed it around. I still have that paper. It was and is an excellent idea!

If people want to be pen pals we can figure out ways to share addresses non publicly like thou temp emails or something or PO Boxes are another option.

I haven't actually thought this through lol

Chicken scratch is me trying my very best at printing. I pretty much forgot how to write in cursive and the only time i have a pencil or pen in my hand is for a signature.

I'm actually sending out a handwritten letter this week. 😘

I've written letters since I was about 9 years old. I think stamps were about 20 cents back then, and I used to spend most of my allowances on stamps as I got older.

It's crazy to me that stamps are now 50 cents! I correspond fairly frequently, so that would really add up if I didn't take shameless advantage of the internet.

I can also type a bit faster than I handwrite. My friends also tease me that when I text, it's in chapters, not abbreviations 😁, but that's just how I've always written.

Every now and then however, it's very therapeutic to break out the good stationery and write out a good old-fashioned pen and paper snail mail. 🥳

I had a much-older relative who was really into written correspondence, because at the time, there was nothing else available to keep in touch.

When this person passed away, I inherited a small stack of postcards that had been sent throughout many years.

The two biggest prizes amongst that collection are two cards with 1-cent stamps -- one card made it through but with no cancellation mark; the second made it through but also somehow missed the ink cancellation, and so that mail carrier had "X"ed it out with a pencil instead when he delivered the card, as I'm told this is what they did "back in the day."

I've always wanted to see if they were worth anything in particular (maybe 50 cents instead of just a penny for the stamp?!), but would most likely just keep them for the history.

One of the museums I'd wanted to visit on a family trip was a postal museum, and everyone else groaned at the thought , but I would have found it fascinating.

Ive exchanged letters through online groups and forums before, and christmas cards.
if you really want to write to me PM me.
I had loads of penpals growing up before internet. It will be slower though. I still write to people and get letters in my mailbox but dont always write back straight away.

what I like about online forums thought is you get to write on different topics, and with more people. its less personal though. Any stamps I get I give to missionaries as theres a collection at church. I dont kmow how much money they get for those stamps though

I’ve exchanged handwritten letters with a partner and had daily correspondence by email with an old friend. I suspect my enjoyment of epistolary literature was an influence. But I don’t do it anymore.

I know some use letter writing as a form of ministry and I think that’s nice. They’re blessing each other through the notes.

It's that personal touch. Knowing that the person took the time to sit down, take a piece of paper and pen, and actually applied themselves (or not lol) to write you a few lines. Seeing their handwriting, touching that piece of paper that they held... it's all so interesting and valuable to me.

I used to be into graphology for a quite a while, and I am familiar with the basics, but won't be able to actually analyze someone's handwriting to the point of having a good idea of their personality. It's super interesting though and I might even go back to studying it again (as a hobby).

I have plenty of cards, notes and letters from people I've known over the years. I keep them all preciously stacked all over my room at my mom's apartment lol.

I love having something tangible that reminds me of the people I've met through life, it's like keeping a little part of them.
Especially when it's a nice note or letter full of kindness and love : )
