Thank you for all of the pictures of your part of Colorado. It brings back memories of when I was a kid, living north of there in Loveland, gong to church youth camps and retreats in Monument. My sister and her family now live in Colorado Springs. Her husband got a job in Denver, and wanted to move closer to it, but my sister didn't want to leave that area.

That looks like it could be either Glacier National Park or Steamboat Springs.

I went to a cousin's wedding last February down in Ensenada (Baja California,Mexico). After the wedding, my family took me sightseeing around. We went to Valle de Guadalupe, which is a Valley known for its vineyards and wineries.

We also went to this small ranch owned by an old couple. They sell homemade cheese, tortillas, and wine. Loved the place :) who doesn't love homemade cheese and tortillas? But I loved the fact that you can come in and eat at their table like it's your own place lol.

Nah this is the Durango Silverton train in south west Colorado... What is really cool is once a year they replace their old historic engine for Thomas the train... And all the children love it :p

Nice shots. I'll make it up there sometime for a photo shoot.

A shot of a train I dearly miss:

At first I was like, "I said ones you took yourself! That came from Railpictures.net!" Then I was like, "Andrew De Kruif."

A small town caller Palmer Lake about 15 minutes north of Colorado Springs.

For those bored with my train pictures:

Spearfish Canyon, South Dakota.

Badlands, South Dakota.

I lived there last year (I don't live there now) but I hope and dream that I will live there again someday. It's breathtaking.

Great idea, JimJimmers. Those are fantastic pictures of that caterpillar! Wow!

Is that near Mount Rushmore? The topography looks similar.
Mount Rushmore is in the Black Hills forest, which is about an hour away or so from the Badlands. It goes from bare plains and weird rock formations like this:
cc4.jpg

To lush, dense, coniferous forests like this without hardly any transition:
cc6.jpg

But yes, they are near each other. There is actually a place in the Badlands where, with binoculars, you can make out the outline/faces of Mt. Rushmore.

When people think about Colorado they think mountains and trees without realizing most of the state is actually high desert
