Speaking of gas. I remember when gas was cheap, but a visit to the station came with full service.
You pull up to the pump. Black rubber tube stretched out from the gas island. You drive over it to get to pump. “Ding Ding,” goes the bell.
The gas station attendant comes out of the garage/office area. He usually had a red utility rag in hand.
Walks to driver side of car, smiles and says, “Good afternoon, can I help you?”
“Yes, fill it up with regular.” Or “$5 gallons of ethyl.”
“Would you like me to check the oil?”
He puts the nozzle in the tank. Then opens the hood and checks oil level. If it is low, “You need about a quart, would you like me to some in?”
Then he will even put air in any tires low on air.
Then he washes car front window.
Then he takes the payment. Yep. Pump first then pay.
