I had a few spectrum type kids in primary school, one girl would always grab me in a tight hug and try to pick ME up lol

she had no idea that her behaviour was annoying and inapppropriate until she learned that she didnt like it when people did the same things to her. She would also find sneaky ways to get out of doing anything she didnt feel like doing.

another girl who was quite challenged often had meltdowns out of frustration so the other girls avoided her and didnt want to work with her. But these children needed individual attention and were easily distracted and most would label that ADHD and it wouldnt really have anything to do with sex or gender.
Lanolin do you work as a teacher or teacher’s aide?

Apparently MLE (modern learning environments) are all the rage where everyone learn in one huge warehouse to mimic those open plan offices that are so distracting to work in. lol

How can you learn in a noisy environment like that anyway. Its not like many workplaces that are not schools are segeregated by gender anymore either.

offices, factories...its all equal opportunity now. welcome to real world.

If you want to work in an exclsuively all female environment maybe... a womens clothing store? But shock horror some stores sell both gender and unisex clothing.

for men they will just have to get over the fact that women can also work alongside them. And swallow their pride. For a bit. ay.

No school librarian...but worked alongside teacher aides and teachers in school.

Was going to work in an all boys catholic school got interviewed but someone else got that job and. got hers the one she left instead.

Now 4 years later school has run out of money (its a state primary school) so thinking about other options. Im not against private schools its just I dont live in the area for the exclusive ones. I guess each achool is different irrespective of whether its single sex or co ed. Private schools are bit of a mystery to me and so are single sex schools since I never attended one.

universities, well I've studied in many different ones and they have ALL been co-ed. Its like you leave high school and suddenly you allowed to be co-ed? So how will you cope? arrgh there are opposite sex people studying alongside you, shock horror.

That is cool you are a librarian! I can imagine you wearing glasses like a typical librarian image. 😉 I am very sorry to hear your school tan out of money…. I am not very familiar with non co-Ed education. In Canada one sex schools are very rare.

one of the teachers at my school was from Canada. She had a canada flag on a pole outside her new house and I teased her about it...Canadians and their flags. sHe said that Canadians love their flag. Nzers dont really get the whole flag thing. When our prime minister made a huge referendum to get it changed, most people wanted to keep the old one cos it cost too much money to get a new one lol

With the single sex schools, I wonder if they are run by the same over arching board of trustees if they are in close proximity. Cos say you have a family of both boys and girls, do you send the girls to the girls school and the boys to the boys school, but what if they are quite far apart from each other?

Does the school bus pick up both or they get on separate busses? How far does that aprtheid go?

In my area, the catholic boys high school was a few blocks away from the girls school but on the same road. They were not right next to each other or adjoining. maybe a five minute walk.

In another suburb there is a state girls high school and a nearby boys high school but not sure exactly how far apart they are.
I think they are on the same road...not sure if you knocked down the fence whether they could just merge and become one big school.

But that girls high school was notorious and earned the nickname of k....Kennels.

Because it was said the girls were such dogs. ?!

The other thing was there was a FB controversy over rape crimes at that school. Boys from the boys school would go round in gangs posting rapes on FB to get the girls. It was called Roastbusters. You can google this, am not making it up.

so am a bit wary of single sex schools. Some of them seem to have a bad culture of complete disrespect for themselves and others.

the wealthy ones I dont know much about although I have gardened for one of the boys ones and thats a whole nother story. The students there dont need to lift a finger doing manual work like planting native trees lol. They just pay outside contractors to do it.

one of my colleagues said he worked for a private girls school and was like the hired help. They had a tonne of money for things like an underwater hockey team etc and of course the state of the art swimming pools needed to be maintained at huge expense.

oh the other place of segregation? Prisons.

Though I recall there did used to be a womens hospital but that hospital closed down, not sure why and there was some scandal over women being used in medical experiments without their consent.

Well, then maybe we should just get rid of schools and have them go right to the factories, then. Welcome to the real world, right? I'm sure nothing could go wrong.

hmm the school I applying for goes from year 1-13 which is quite unusual but all girls. Most schools split up into primary, intermediate and high school.

In some ways thats good if you at the same school for 13 years. But the fees! Eyewatering. And it costs $1500 to just enrol.

I remember one pastors son went to an exclusive private boys school for a while but switched to another boys state school that was closer to home. Or it could have been the parents could no longer afford it. But it was the same one implicated in roastbusters.

The christian school a friends daughter went to also went from years 1-13 but was both girls and boys. However it took her two busses to get there. It wasnt as expensive as the all girls one. which is $24,000 a year. I looked on the website.

You can enrol in christian and catholic schools even if you are not a believer. Some like to play the 'catholic' card if their family members are but they dont go to RCC churches. Its generally seen as better but almost all catholic high schools are segregated. Maybe cos they training the girls to be nuns and the boys to be monks, or they are teaching staff perhaps? Although that doesnt apply to librarians.

Lanolin that is funny that you teased the teacher from Canada about her 🇨🇦 Flag. If I ever move to NZ I am going to put up A Ton of flags, then you can tease me about that! I don’t understand the reason for all the single gender schools…. Should there be single gender colleges and universities?? If I taught at your school I might tease you and play tricks on you as a librarian. 😆

haha would you hide the books so I cant find them.

Yea I dont either the only answer so far on this thread is 'boys are distracted by girls bums' or whatver. but most high schools both co ed and single sex here have school uniforms, and have standards, they are not anything goes like in the US!

But at university you can pretty much wear what you like, even go in your pyjamas if you want.

Hahaha I would definitely hide the books from you!! I would stash them in different classrooms and bring the good ones home! I know what you mean boys can be distracted by girls figures. Heck I might even get distracted by you if you wear those cute librarian glasses… 🤓
That is interesting it is very rare to have school uniforms in Canada. I know when I was in college/university a bunch of people wore nursing scrubs…

here primary schools now have them, never used to, When I went everyone was wearing mufti and now theyve gone all corporate.

Maybe its a nz thing everyone has to be in a 'team' and wear team colours every day not just for sports.

Those itchy tartan skirts were the worst. I dont think the latest incarnations are much better...ties and blazers.

the whole figure argument seems pretty lame as all girls have figures and even if we wore black robes that look like garbage sacks like muslim women seem to some men who cant control themslves would still have a problem. Those kinds of men need to go to a single sex prison if thats the case.

Actually meany kiwi women do wear black. it must be All Blacks influence we not all in mourning. It may not show the dirt but it sure shows any white cat or dog hairs

As soons as I left high school I was like I gotta buy more clothes. And they cant be gold and brown like my uniform was. The poor boys had to wear shorts and long socks that were not supoosed to fall down but they did. We froze in winter and baked in summer.

Maybe having uniform made us focus more on learning, so that was an advantage. It was great not worrying about what to wear, just this ugly uniform means I have to go and do schoolwork.

I often wondered why did the teachers not wear uniform? Youd think they would want to set an example.
