I think the word "date" in post #5 is the key to your question. Most of the posters who come to the forums are not looking for a date or to be hit on, as often happens in chat. Friendships seem to have longer shelf lives than online dating.

Most of us are very busy people. We can post here in the forums at our convenience and still keep the dialogue going without being bombarded by PMers who just want to say "hai" while we are trying to have a conversation in main chat.
I don't get that. No one ever PMs me (unless they're from a very poor country).

The chat rooms consist of either arguments over the bible, then arguments over arguing about the bible OR the high school room (lounge) where you can expect to be ignored unless your one of the cool kids.

Ain't nobody got time for that ;)
I have a [possible] solution for that... ;)

Chat Rooms food-for-thought ( <----- Click )

Of course, there is no guarantee against arguments occurring - but, the right kind of change in the environment might give an "incentive" to reduce some problems - like the one you mentioned above about the lounge...

:)

My PM box says that "I am not a fan of PMs". I can be engaged in a conversation with people in main chat and it doesn't matter. I will still get "hai" or "do you want to chat?". But my friends know it is ok to PM me anyway, right? :)

Back in the day (last fall), Missy2010, Skybound and I had a nice following of regulars in the Random Room. It was hopping, we even had a Halloween party, and end of the world party (comes as your favourite apocalyptical character or symbol) :p

I used to be exclusively in chat, believe it or not. Didn't even touch the forums from October 2012 until mid January 2013.

Now that I'm on the forums, I like the forums much more. I think you can get to know people better, to start with, that way. Chat started off fun, I met some cool people that I still talk with, but then you get tons of "Heyyyy girrrrlll, you single?" type people. Or people who say "Hi" and then have nothing else to say besides "lol".

I also think it's a bit ironic that the Singles chatroom has a background of a couple. :p

This could just be me, but finding a good conversation one-to-one in chat is pretty rare, and I don't have the time to sit there and go through all the chatters in the room to see if we can get past all the "How are you today?" small talk.

I envy the people who have enough time to sit in the chat rooms for hours... I just don't.

However, I am guilty of being logged in for long amounts of time as I go about my daily life and then check back in on the threads when I have a few spare minutes.

Now if someone was going to arrange a time or regular meeting when a group of cool posters from singles were all going to be in the chat room at once, I would definitely try to make it a date!
Actually Seoul it is funny that you mention this. I did suggest this at one time. We have a bunch of us here at night. Why wouldn't we go to chat instead of just shooting the bull on the derailers thread. By the way, whoever came up with that thread was pure genius.

Haha! Never noticed that before! A more accurate picture would be of a lonely guy sitting at his computer desk eating KD out of the pot, wearing a white wife beater stained orange from eating Cheetos, and drinking beer. Or of a lonely girl drinking wine on her couch, watching chick flicks, balling and cuddling with her 6 cats.

I kid!!

I only went to the lounge a few times but that's where I remember you from until you started posting.

I've only been to chat once. The conversation was a little random and fluffy but not dangerous or mean-spirited. Everyone was wearing a towel on their head, so I did the same (not to fit in, just for a bit of fun). It was hard to get a word in edge-wise because most people seemed to hog the microphone (and you have to be really quick). I'd never been in a chat room before and I haven't been since. I think forums have always been more of my forte.

You know what, I've noticed that some of the "chat-only" people have been starting to post in the forums recently. It must be getting pretty bad in chat.

Singles forum is just my favorite spot. No arguing, good people and I don't have to reply right away if I don't want to :p. I'd be down for going to the chat more often if everybody in here actually gathered in the singles chat at the same time, but I don't see that happening. We all have different schedules and some of us are in completely different time zones.

Good online solitude time. One could practice to be a modern-day hermit. :)

That's right Tintin, you can sit in a virtual room all by yourself, kind of how I do in real life, and cry yourself to sleep!
I kid!

Arwen, how do you know me so well? Have you been stalking me?
