There was a time I couldn't listen to "Idol" singing performances with a pal because the songs were basically all love songs, about one making an effort to woo someone, or someone asking to be wooed more (like Genie in a Bottle), which made me too sad to listen to it; because I knew I couldve pressed to 'get/secure' someone gone, but my mind tells me it would have just prolonged the inevitable.

The Titanic movie came out about the same time my husband divorced me. One of our final arguments (and I know it's frivolous, but everything becomes an argument when you're near the end) was over that movie (he hated it and blew up when I asked him t.o watch it with me.) I suppose it didn't really matter by then because he was, by his choice, living at the other end of the house and not speaking to me about anything anyways.

So of course, that movie blew up and as everyone knows, it was EVERYWHERE. There was ALWAYS something related to that movie on the radio, on TV, conversations during chat circles, in stores, etc., and my brain interpreted anything to do with the movie as a big flashing neon sign that constantly screamed, "REJECTION."

I still wince every time I hear those first few oh-too-familiar notes whenever the song is played.

And I completely understand what you're saying about not wanting to listen to love songs as well. I'm really sorry for the hardships you went through and I'm glad that at the very least, you were able to let go (at least partially) and hopefully avoid an extended amount of pain.

I would have been more than happy to lock myself away on a desert island for a few years during that time, because I didn't want to be reminded of anything having to do with "love" either.

I dont enjoy that song much either!

Can you listen to any other songs by Celine Dion Seoul?

which song hurts more 'My Heart will Go on' or 'I will always love You' both from blockbuster movies, both by wailing songstresses and both about sinking ships or departures.

like

I will survive by Gloria Gaynor
and
Let it Go by the cartoon characters of the Disney Frozen movie.

Surely those songs cant hurt? And they could be interpreted as getting over a break up or someone leaving you.

I'm a lifelong Rush fan and I love that song. I think it's sad how Neil foreshadowed his own future with the lyrics to this song when he lost the ability to play in the last few years of his life due to shoulder pain and later, brain cancer. (RIP)

Very sad indeed. As for Losing It, this was always my favorite Rush tune. I've always had a melancholy heart . . . and this song fit the tune.

EVa Cassidys version of Over the Rainbow is probably the most poignant as she died young at 32 and at the time, was not famous - she became widely known after her death.

Though nobody can beat Judy Garland for most tragic torch singer of all. People said of her when she was singing from 2 and a half years old...she sings like a woman thats been hurt.

When she lost her job at MGM cos of near suicide, pills, abortions and sexual abuse...she went on the concert circuit singing her old songs. She always ended with Over the Rainbow and it bought down the house. In the end she couldnt even sing it. People were singing it to her.

I just saw that for the first time last night. I had tears streaming down my face knowing that she had died and that I had never known that she release that version of Luther's original.

Did you listen to Luther's tune? The song celebrates women like they're the True Golden Gems that they Truly are. It is such an incredible song . . . I always wished that I had a woman in my life that would allow me to express myself to her in such a fashion. I never did find one, though. They all turned on me like unpredictable tornadoes. :LOL:

The saddest is that her daughter died as well


I never heard that Whitney song before but its pretty amazing. I like the choir at the end. She kind of turned it into a spiritual

the music industry is pretty tough on artists and if you do make it to the top there are plenty of pitfalls.

Wow. I didn't know that she even had kids. I just knew that after hooking up with Bobby, she really fell apart. Sex and drugs . . . they're a very powerful combo; tough to avoid once you've had the taste.

This song was sung at my dad's funeral. Going on 17 years this year and it still hurts to hear. 😢
