I think God has given me an eternal gift. I feel at peace about things. I feel OK with stuff that used to really raise my anxiety level. Bills, student loan debt, mortgage, etc. I'm so thankful that my mind just knows that it'll be ok.

Yeah...that is concerning, really. I mean, I'm all for declarations of love and all, and those could be included WITH the vows, but I don't think they should be the vows.

There's this one show on TLC called 4 weddings I believe. And 99% of them are extremely overrated lovey-dovey stupid stuff. But there's this one certain episode that really struck me. There was someone who yes, wrote their own wedding vows, but it really hit hard, and the bride said, "I will not go to bed angry with you." And the Bible does say, do not let the sun go down on your anger. And I just thought, WOW. The courage it would take to make that sort of vow before a congregation. I wonder if it is possible to keep such a vow.
"I will not go to bed angry with you" is a pretty powerful one. One that I hope she keeps. That's one of those things that I know I couldn't do on my own, without Christ.

I just think that wedding vows should have some weight to them. Maybe the wimpy 'vows' that are popular these days are a reflection of the equally wimpy conviction with which some folks enter marriage.

All this talk about wedding vows...

My sister and her husband already got married last fall, but just had their wedding in September. They had a lot of fun with it, putting it together and all, but it wasn't really so much a wedding as a mockery of one...of marriage...ugh, it was so hard to sit through.

They wrote their own "vows" (which were exchanged in front of my sister's half-brother (yeah, crazy family) who is an internet "ordained" minister...), which included things like "I promise not to punch you for leaving hair in the sink" or "I promise not to kill you when you wake me up before my alarm goes off".

And then, as their "wedding song", they had a woman stand up and sing Pink's "True Love" (if you don't know what that is, don't bother listening to it).

The whole thing was just...I dunno, basically for shock value and completely ridiculous.

Just after defending the Bible Discussion Forum, I go in there and read a series of judgmental and hateful posts.

**sigh**

If I had several of my brothers and sisters in Christ come to me and point out that I was behaving in an inappropriate way, I would listen and do what I could to correct said behavior.

Granted, I've been known to ignore the wise words and corrections of just one or two people. It's easier to keep pretending I'm right and they're wrong when it's only a couple of people.

But when something is mentioned repeatedly by several people? And others are agreeing? I think that'd make me stop and take notice.

I dunno. It's strange to me how anyone could simply ignore stuff like that and carry on with what they're doing and think, somehow, that's it's cute, or that people don't really mind.

It's not cute. It's not amusing.
i was sort of thinking about that earlier today. one thing i've noticed about myself, is that if someone points out my behavior (or something that i alone was responsible for doing) directed towards me alone, i would probably take it to heart with varying degree as to who that person is, and give consideration to their feedback.

however, if someone was to question behavior, not as individual, but as part of a group, are we as likely to take it as seriously?

i think sometimes the "herd" or group mentality can be used to justify or feel as validation for our behavior, because we aren't alone. as if it's ok because "so and so" does/also did it. and in a sense, feeling as though one can "hide" behind the behavior of the others as well. even say, "hey, at least i'm not the one who did THAT, i only watched", or whatever.

i think much of that is simply human nature, and perhaps even more relevant depending upon one's personality.

while it is sometimes it's easy to justify our choices because others' are doing it, by doing so, we are essentially making them our "measuring stick" of acceptability--instead of our own conscience. or an even more reliable tool for calibration.

Oh by the way I'm back from the mountains, mostly recovered from a very bumpy overnight train ride to get back (I'm pretty sure I slept a little bit of it). Mountains were foggy and rather cold, hotel included a nice big breakfast, got a little bit of hiking in, and roomie bought a nice new backpack which has given me a bad case of backpack envy (because I love backpacks, but couldn't quite decide what I wanted in yet another one when I've already got 2 that meet most of my needs here). Now I must get laundry done and get out to buy food and do some other important stuff like that. I want to go back on vacation.

I've been trying to cut back on caffeine. Caffeiene? Caffiene?!? Where the heck is my spell check at?

Anyway...you know what I mean...coffee.

So this morning, instead of making a cup of coffee first thing when I woke up, I had a glass of water, and then made some tea instead. After a while, I started to feel sort of semi-awake, ish. And then I gave in and had coffee, but one cup, instead of the normal 3 I would have had by that time.

I usually drink coffee all stinkin' day. Because...coffee.

Anyway, I'm making an effort to cut down to two cups of coffee a day. Because that's reasonable. Whereas 12...not so much.

It's no fun and I don't like it.
Have you thought about mixing some decaf into your routine, that may help you cut back on caffeine without feeling quite so deprived? You'll have to let us know if there is some sort of placebo effect on your alertness levels as well.

I had always thought that those autocorrect things on facebook were fake. I'm sure that many are, but I just experienced one of those conversations that turned awkward thanks to autocorrect. The person I was texting accidentally put in the word "greasy" instead of "great," which made the whole conversation sound really dirty when taken out of context.

Marriage vows.

I've witnessed the traditional vows, I've witnessed amazing, Christ-soaked vows, I've witnessed meaningless vows (but only at non-Christian weddings), I've witnessed brilliant, nerdy but Christ-ordained vows. Personally, I think the marriage vows should be challenging and sacrificial but doable, with Christ's help. On a less serious note, I believe the vows should be unique (or at least the way they're written) to the couple getting married. For example, I went to a nerdy but Christ-ordained wedding. The vows contained some nerdy references regarding the couple eg. Doctor Who etc. but they always pointed to Christ and His role in holding together their marriage. It was baffling at times but rather beautiful.

I'm struggling a lot more than I realized.
I see those struggles from time to time kiddo. Not often tho - and that's the thing that kills me. You are so strong and you didn't go and hide, but rather involved yourself in your church and community and school and life went on for you and even though you didn't want to, you made things work. You're a bleedin' oak most of the time. You even had me praying for the stupid dog of all things - i mean dear sweet Mocha.

Anyway, you just go ahead and have yourself a little self indulgence tonight and give me the honor of praying for you which I will. Things will look better in the morning.

I'm beginning to think I should have started a thread on this. :p I don't mind personalized vows, it's the 'meaningless' ones that get me. I would love to see how that couple incorporated Doctor Who into their vows! :D

Something I really hate:

I'm at work. It's time for me to go. But I can't go because the person who's supposed to take my place is late. Again. For the 5,482nd time. Nothing major, mabe five or ten minutes late, I can understand that happening maybe once or even twice a month, but every day?

Wait, no, that's not the part I hate.

So he saunters in, stops to chat with a couple of people, clocks in and finally takes his place at work. I mention he is late. He says what he always says, "It'll be alright."

Whenver someone says that, in that dismissive tone of voice, IT NEVER IS ALRIGHT!

Okay, that's my complaining for today. Back to normal lunacy.

Has anyone ever thought about blowing up someone's notification tab? I thought about doing it before on April fools day. I was going to "Like" one hundred posts of someone I knew just so that the next time they logged on, they would have one hundred notifications! Imagine the horror and excitement all at the same time! Lol O_O

So is THAT what they're doing? Every time I log on I have a bunch of "likes." More than 1500 and I haven't even been here three months yet. So that's it, they're playing a prank on me...
