I am literally having so much fun on the comp bopping my head around to my music, smiling, I think it's annoying the guy next to me. I'm not being disruptive I am just genuinely having a good time. And I think that confuses people. XDD

Ugh.

I have that song I mentioned earlier, I know exactly what I want to do with it, it will sound pretty modern and good once I get it right... but my brain keeps reverting to the original version I heard.

I can reformat a hard drive or a partition of the hard drive... anyone know of a way to reformat a sector of a brain?

Today I'm trying to be thankful just to have a cozy home, running water, and heat. Because I am A.N.G.R.Y. at this house and frustrated with the people (in-laws) who own it.

Our well is totally jacked up. There's been issues with it since the first year we lived here, and it's getting to be really stinkin' expensive to replace all the things that are getting broken because of the sand in the water.

First issue- a pump burned out the first year we lived here because the sand in the water forced something to stay open when it should have closed after the water was shut off. $400 repair, plus the time and irritation of digging a 6 ft. deep hole to get to the well, and then filling it back in (had a neighbor do the digging with a fancy digging machine (I hate myself for not knowing what it's called) and then filled it back in by hand).

Second issue- we put a filter on the water line in the basement because we were getting a lot of sand coming out of the faucets and in the toilet. But the filters would get clogged after just one day (or less) and so after a couple weeks of this we gave up and have been dealing with sandy water.

Third issue- the new pump burned out just from the sheer volume of sand it was coping with, and once again the well had to be dug up and several parts replaced, along with a new pump, which was another $500. We did, however, have the sense to build a sort of well house this time, rather than filling in the hole only to have to dig it up again in the future.

And then...the washing machine no longer works on the cold setting because of the sand.
The toilet has had all its inner parts replaced more than five times because of the sand.
The bathroom sink had to be torn out and replaced because of old plumbing/sand.
The shower head barely sprays at all because of the sand.
Every bath taken in this house has a layer of sand at the bottom.
The hose outside works unless we put a sprinkler head on it, which gets ruined pretty quickly because...sand.
The kitchen faucet has finally become so clogged with sand that it's unusable, except for the sprayer hose thing which still lets some water through, so I've been using that to slooooowly fill the sink and wash dishes.

The solution to all these problems would be having a new well dug. Which costs upwards of $4,000. And we don't have that kind of money to put into someone else's house, and they don't have that kind of money to put into their own house, and they also don't think it's that big of a deal anyway (since we haven't asked them to replace/repair ONE SINGLE THING because they would just say no anyway...actually, it would go a lot like this:
Us: The sink is broken because of the sand in the water, can we get the faucet replaced?
Them: A new faucet? No need for that. We'll send your uncle out to take a look at it.
Two months later, he'd show up, take a lot of stuff apart, put it back together, drink a few beers, and tell us how to use the faucet without getting sand in the water...which wouldn't work).

Heaven forbid anything gets properly fixed or replaced around here. Let's just let it all fall apart and decay and rust and break and in 20 years, wonder why this place has been deemed unlivable.

It's so frustrating. They're like this with everything to do with this house. My husband's great-grandfather built it, and I totally get wanting to PRESERVE his original design, but it's FALLING. APART. because they won't let anyone do the necessary work to keep it nice. The hard wood floor in here is totally ruined because they won't let us seal it- "Grand-dad didn't build it that way, leave it alone". Fine. Let it rot.

I think...I think the sooner we can buy our own house, the better.

Still struggling to just be grateful, though. *sigh*

Oh my the sand issue sounds bad. I'm surprised if they want to continue renting it out after you leave that they don't fix anything, especially the sand issue. When you do leave they will have tenants who will want them to replace things. I wonder if there is a way to hook it up to a city sewer system or are you to far out? I grew up on well water, I'm glad this house doesn't have it, it's a pain.

The floor doesn't even make sense, that's nuts. It won't ruin the look of the floor just to seal it.

My friend and her family just bought a double wide trailer, its beautiful. I think they are more affordable then a house.

I was able to drop calculus today! Ahhhhhh. My life feels so much more manageable now.

Also, I woke up this morning to a Facebook message from a friend of mine whose dad is the pastor of a church I used to attend. It's so random because I never see or talk to her because I attend a different church now, and it's also slightly awkward because she was my nurse when I was in the hospital with appendicitis in May, but she was messaging me to basically set me up on a blind date with one of her friends. I've never been on a blind date let alone a real date, but I can't not say yes, so I messaged her back saying that I would be up for it.

If you combine this post with my funeral posts and you concluded that I've had a really weird day, you are right :p

I asked an extroverted ladyfriend to be my "+ 1 " at the annual winter party at work for this Friday. Why, oh why did I do that? Now I will have to actually stick around instead of making a 15 minute appearance before sneaking out.

Siberian: Nah, too unpredictable. That would be like reformatting a random partition when you need all but the one you want to reformat. If the wrong brain sector got reformatted I could be seriously up a creek. :p

I drove today. On an actual road. And an actual highway. And I didn't die. Neither did anyone else. I also had animals in the car with me. I'm so glad I survived.

it does sound like *quite a day*

i've been to awkward funerals. one of the things that i tend to pay attention to (because i can't help not doing it) is noticing all the family drama at a funeral. like people who walk past and sit far away from the person they keep glancing at, and the tension. i'm weirdly sensitive about energy like that, and i can almost feel someone giving the "cold treatment" to someone at 50 paces.

also, blind dates can be a lot of fun. relax and have a good time. don't put so much pressure on yourself, because it's not that big of a deal. you might meet a cool friend, a weirdo or someone amazing. but there is fun in the adventure. and getting to know someone new. : )

p.s. you need to find a prof who won't make you "show your work". ; p

YAY! what's next?

...into the great wide open??? : p

i feel so kerouac-y today. : ) i could really go for a road trip.

darn, i missed the time limit. sigh.

misscris, sorry to hear about the troubles you're having with the faulty pump/well. i grew up on well water and their issues and know firsthand how entirely irritating these things can be.

i prayed for your family this afternoon, and that everything would work out without too much of a kerfuffle.

though it is probably too late for that. : (

yay!

you may have to stick around, but chances are, you won't have to carry the conversation. : )

p.s. to be safe, perhaps you should bring your earwarmers. ; p

So I was idly scanning the main forum board...

Christian Singles, last post in a thread 1 hour ago.

Christian News, last post in a thread 2 hours ago.

Poems and Poetry, last post in a thread 13 hours ago.

Christian Music, last post in a thread 18 minutes ago (from me.)

Bible Discussions, last post in a thread 1 minute ago.

Wait... what? Don't they ever sleep in the argument forum?

"What do you want me to do? LEAVE? Then they'll keep being wrong!"
No, we don't! Or maybe the Bible Argument Forum is made up purely of Southern Hemispherians? :p
I kid, I kid. Sort of.

I hope.

Dang.

UPDATE: We worked out two signals:

#1 - scratch your temple to communicate that you need to be rescued from this person who is talking at you.

#2 - pinky up means it's time to go.

I think I ruffled some feathers today at work.

For those who don't know, I work with people with developmental disabilities. One of the people I support works out at a gym located in a community center. His new goal is to log in his progress (which exercise, weight used, reps, etc.). I made a picture based log book for him, since a traditional gym log would not work, since reading the names of the exercises and machines would confuse him. Long story short is that the other people on his team have just been hanging out and working out themselves (which is okay to exercise alongside him) but haven't had him work on any of his goals. So since I am the one who has to write a monthly report on the data they provide, I basically sent them an email telling them to do their jobs. I was a little more tactful than that though.

I also responded to my boss' email on another matter. A family member of one of our participants want to start up a book club for some of our participants, which is a great idea. However, the philosophy of our organization is that the program's activities have to be inclusive. If they have a book club for the developmentally disabled, then it flies in the face of what our program is about. Several weeks ago, one of the managers in another department was asked about this and she was very eloquent in explaining to all about the philosophy of community inclusion.

This came up again when my boss shared another email chain with this family member and wanted to know my thoughts. I told him that I liked the idea of the audio recording accompanying the book, since that would probably encourage participation and increase the numbers, but the inclusion things was still an issue. I also questioned why the other manager who brought it up first was not included in this email exchange, which may have been a mistake. I then suggested that this would not be an issue if whoever spearheads this plugs it in the community as therapeutic reading, since it could really benefit those recovering from a stroke, second language learners, and those struggling with literacy, as well as the developmentally disabled population.

We'll see what happens...

I take my pup in tomorrow to get spayed.

I called the place today to set up an appointment, thinking they wouldn't be able to get her in until next week. They said they had an opening for tomorrow, so I took it. I was a bit flustered, I thought I'd have a week to prepare, mentally. It's a routine surgery, it's a low-cost spay/neuter clinic so that's what they do day in and day out, but I'm a pet-mom. I'm gonna worry.

She's supposed to stay inactive for at least a week after the surgery. They DO know she's a 7 month old puppy who likes to practice parkour on my furniture, right?

Yeah, they told me the same thing. I was a bit dubious about keeping an australian shepherd inactive. He wasn't even drowsy when I picked him up that afternoon. Which is a pity because I was looking forward to at least ONE trip without him bouncing all over the van.
