1992 was before the internet became popular. It was back when only nerds were online chatting in IRC chatrooms. Shoot, only nerds were able to even CONNECT to the internet. They were the only ones who knew how to set ports, proxies, IP addresses, hostmasks... Normal people didn't have any little boxes to connect automatically back then.
I've been connected since the middle eighties. Does that make me a nerd or what?

I really, really, really, really need to make a trip to the ocean. I miss it with all my heart.
Look at some beach landscape wallpapers. It helps me not miss the beach so much. I have this one as my desktop right now.

It makes you a CAPABLE nerd. My friends and family consider me a nerd because I can install an OS and replace a hard drive - which these days are so easy a four year old could do them. Everything is automatic and modular these days. If you were online in the 80's you are more capable than I.

On the other hand, that might actually not be a good thing...

"Oh you're using their Chrome APP, not their Chrome EXTENSTION. They're very similar but one handles window creation differently." That's one thing I hope I can stop saying very soon.

Some Beach Boys songs! Like surfing sufari. Theyve been around forever.
Thanks, Hug. :) Good suggestion. I was thinking of something a little more modern, maybe with a techno beat. (A tall order, I know.) :p

Techno is easy. I could call up my digital audio workstation and whip up a techno beat in just a moment.

So my landlord will be stopping by here later tonight and have me fill out some forms that he says will take 15 to 20 minutes.

Apparently he wants me to claim I'm dating this one girl I don't know and that I let her granddaughter stay with me during the week.

If I do this, my house will qualify for State funding and have new siding, windows, and other repairs covered.

The only other way for the home to receive such financial assistance is if I, in my landlord's words, were to move out.

I've been here 7 years and I don't feel at all comfortable making this false claim through the State.

Anyone have some suggestions on what to say or do for tonight?

It has me worried.

Why is she asking you to lie? Nothing good will come out of lying. And her grand daughter is not your responsibility. Trust that God will provide for your needs so don't lie, don't be afraid and don't worry. I suggest that you say you are sorry and you want to help get state funding but not by lying. There must be another way. If you get caught with the lie, what will the consequences be?

I remember some words of wisdom an elder person in my church once said.

"Never cheat the government son. They hate it when people try to beat them at their own game."

Well in the words of Martin Luther (or at least the movie version of him), "To go against conscience is neither right nor safe". In my own opinion, if your Landlord can afford to maintain the property then he should sell it, not lie to the government and expect them to bail him out. You've been there 7 years so you probably know your landlord better than any of us. And usually government forms contain clauses like, under penalty of perjury where you have to sign which means if they find out you lied they can really throw the book at you. But since I know very little about such legal matters, it might be prudent for you to see if you can have a free consultation with some legal help that specialized in what your rights as a tenant are under law, because if you follow your conscience and refuse, you might need such information.

As for tonight, I'd just say that you aren't comfortable with such deception and need some time to think about it so you won't fill out the forms tonight. He can come back in a week for your decision.

Do what is right and trust God for the outcome. If your landlord forces you to move, trust God to provide a better place for you. This may be His way of moving you to a better place.

You may also be able to sue your landlord if he/she forces you to move because you didn't help him defraud the government.

If you sign papers, you are legally responsible for them. Don't sign a lie.

Your integrity is worth more than your landlord's approval. Don't sell it so cheap.

Your integrity is only worth what you will sell it for. If you will lie for $20, then your integrity is not worth twenty bucks.

Just tell your landlord, "I cannot in good conscience sign this." His reaction is up to him. Trust God to deliver you from the hands of evil.

If the government finds out you lied, you may be responsible for all the money invested in the property. How much worse would that be than finding a new home because you honored God?
