If that's been a trend for you each quarter, or if your taxes have gone up significantly, i would highly recommend talking with a cfp financial planner OR tax professional on tax efficient strategies for your finances, they can look at education credits/account types you may be eligible for (since you mentioned you're seeking out a PhD or in school?), deductions, tax advantaged bonds (especially for ny state), retirement accounts, etc.

I hope you don't think I'm being too forward, but theres some value in talking to someone if you can keep more of your earnings, and hopefully save and earn a little more.

/back to awkward moments
It's not typical. Just this month's it is :) I do have a CPA as well!

And you're not being forward at all. Thanks for your help!

I do, because I'm considered self-employed in the ministry that I'm doing even though we are part of an organization. The ministry doesn't withhold taxes, so we have to do them our own. Quarterly is just easier for me.

Well you know what they say: Everything is bigger in Taxes.

(I know, that was terrible :p)

I had a friend in college who moved to France right after she graduated, where she worked, got married, had a kid, and even became a citizen.

The taxes were too much.

She's moving back this year to settle in California. Her alternative is a state with the 4th highest state tax. (There are other factors for her cali choice, but I found it ironic )

That awkward moment when you know stuff cause you are 20 years older than people. :)

WHAT?? I put in the time for the knowledge. Back when we didn't have google and you had to ASK people stuff that might be embarrassing.... and the Encyclopedia Britannica didn't have info on shotgun weddings. I'd suffer the embarrassment because I like knowing stuff. :D And I LOVED the Encyclopedia Britannica!!

amen....ditto what Olerica said

So. Yeah. Nice weather we're having.

Change rooms in Australia are sometimes rooms with doors, but are often just rooms with curtains. I don't like change rooms, but I really don't like shopping in general (other than markets or buying books, music, DVDs). But clothes shopping is the worst.
