Agreed! When I first married my kids' father, I did not cook well. I made chicken soup one evening and put too much celery seed in it. (Why I used celery seed is beyond me!) He took one bite of it at the table, his face froze for a few seconds, then he says, "Wow... this is good." I took a bite and nearly gagged. "This tastes like --- (
you know what)!" I screeched. I asked him how come he wasn't honest with me about it and he said he didn't want to hurt my feelings. But when I explained that I wanted to cook things he enjoyed and to tell me when it was gross, he was relieved.
And we laughed for years over it. In fact, sometimes when I would create some new recipe, he'd teasingly ask if I put enough celery seed in it. ROFL!!
