I agree Zero - you would never see a quote saying "A man's heart should be so hidden in Christ that a woman should have to seek Christ first to find him".

I just think there are much better quotes than this - ones that actually come from the bible. Because this quote implies that a man should seek Christ not for his own salvation but for the purpose of getting that Christian girl he's got his eye on.

My bud Rob showed me this as well, so i do agree now as well

hates men? wow thats harsh, if theres a lady hidden in christ theres no way she can hate men.......Christ is a man. you can hate the sin but not the man, there are very few christ center men who know how to lead in the word, so a woman is wise to accept nothing less than the best leader called a christian husband. that is if god is her first priority she will love herself and guard that which god has given her and not trust just any man she will value herself and her god and protect both. and not just any man can rise to that without having to examine himself first.

Christ was/is a perfect man, that's why women will always love him. Women also know how imperfect mortal men are and a woman who's heart is hidden in Christ probably sees those imperfections with 1000x magnification.

But in all my criticism of it, it is probably useful to young teenage girls to keep them away from loser guys.

Actually you were right on a lot of points too.
Actually you were right on a lot of points too. I didn't realize it was from a book women about women, for women. That explains why its only women mentioned, but it could still be written with man-hate in mind. I don't know since I haven't read the book. Also, its just saying that a woman should be a living example of Christianity in order to attract a good Christian man, but the way it is put makes it sound a bit biased towards women in my opinion. Anyhow, how about some fries?

I agree. I think it is very unattainable for both parties. What woman is so oblivious to life because she is all up in God like that? And if there is one or two of them there will never be a man good enuf for her.

I just want to throw this out there...
1. I put this on here becuase I believe that no matter what, God needs to be first in our(MALE OR FEMALE) lives.
2. I'm definitely not sexist. But I see where some of you are coming from.
3. I was hoping to give some of the younger girls on this site encouragement. I know too many young girls that have dated the 'bad boys' and ended up pregnant or with some disease. If you don't like that I am trying to encourage them, i'm sorry.
4. I'm sorry to those of you who were offended by this quote, I know that it helped a lot when surrounded by the jerks of high school.
5. I don't want anyone to seek salvation on my account. It should be because Jesus died for our sins.

God bless you all.

totally agree with ya sharp, young girls need to raise their standards, and make sure these dudes are men of god, not boys

Well like I said, it could still be written with man-hate in mind, and it still sounds biased towards women in my opinion.

On another note, I looked up the author Maya Angelou and came across this poem she wrote entitled 'Men'. Now read this and tell me she doesn't have at least a little hatred of men in her heart.

Men - by Maya Angelou

When I was young, I used to
Watch behind the curtains
As men walked up and down the street. Wino men, old men.
Young men sharp as mustard.
See them. Men are always
Going somewhere.
They knew I was there. Fifteen
Years old and starving for them.
Under my window, they would pauses,
Their shoulders high like the
Breasts of a young girl,
Jacket tails slapping over
Those behinds,
Men.

One day they hold you in the
Palms of their hands, gentle, as if you
Were the last raw egg in the world. Then
They tighten up. Just a little. The
First squeeze is nice. A quick hug.
Soft into your defenselessness. A little
More. The hurt begins. Wrench out a
Smile that slides around the fear. When the
Air disappears,
Your mind pops, exploding fiercely, briefly,
Like the head of a kitchen match. Shattered.
It is your juice
That runs down their legs. Staining their shoes.
When the earth rights itself again,
And taste tries to return to the tongue,
Your body has slammed shut. Forever.
No keys exist.

Then the window draws full upon
Your mind. There, just beyond
The sway of curtains, men walk.
Knowing something.
Going someplace.
But this time, I will simply
Stand and watch.

Maybe.

Maya Angelou

She's not exactly the unbiased Christian that we imagined now is she? Turns out she is also a strong proponent of gay rights.

If I recall correctly, I did not in fact say that I am a supporter of everything Maya Angelou has written. I just like this quote. If you don't like it, don't read it. One person can get encouragement from something, that another person doesn't like.

God bless you.

I like this statement. And CarlyB never said that she agreed with everything that the Maya Angelou said. You can like one thing and not like other things someone says. Just because this says a woman doesn't mean it can't work for men either. Just put a man in there. If CarlyB is sexist because this quote is about a woman being lost in God then wouldn't you also be saying that the bible is sexist because it always uses the term "man/men"?! All she is saying here is that a woman shouldn't depend on a man to find love. She should find love through Christ first. I don't see how that is saying something rude about men. Once she puts God first he will bless her with a man. What is so wrong with that?!

Because its not biblical. There is absolutely nothing in the bible that supports it, so it is misleading all the women who believe it.

And I'm not yelling. :) Really, I'm not.

I think I might have to start my own thread about why I am against this quote because people seem to think I'm just this sexist jerk who "just doesn't like it".

See my avatar? thats how I feel about this thread.
