Re: To The Person Who Just Used the Rep System to Ask Me, "Do You Ever Just Shut Up?!

Hey Peeps,

I just woke up to a message in my Reputation box that says:

"Do you ever just shut up?!?! I swear you think you know every **** thing... and you wonder why you are single lol."

Normally, I like to reply in person, but since this person left an anonymous message, I'll just answer here.

1. Writing has always been my primary form of communication. I generally write a bit more than I say in person. I can understand that you think I write too much, but you can always skip my posts or put me on Ignore.

2. I most certainly don't think I know everything. That's part of why I'm here--to learn from other people. But, I understand your feelings, and I know I can't please everyone, nor do I try.

I've been on CC for a bit, and will probably be here a bit longer, so again, skipping over my posts is probably your best option.

3. "And you wonder why you're single."

Nope, sorry. I actually don't sit around wondering why I'm single. Over the years I've had my share of dates, marriage proposals, etc., and have met some great people, but for whatever reason, it just hasn't worked out. I do have some things I've observed about single life though, and will continue to share them here.

Hope this answers all your concerns.

I actually do have an idea who wrote this, but that's between that person and God.

I always tell people who don't like me, "Well, you can always pray and tell God everything you think is wrong with me. If He agrees, I'm sure He'll let me know and work on it with me. Thanks for your prayers."

God bless, and have a great day!

My dear seoulsearch you are such a classy lady. That is NOT the answer I would have given. What a nasty piece of work :(

Ooops and Happy Birthday! Hope its as wonderful as you are!

That must've come from someone who is completely unhappy with their life. I'm sorry Kim. You know that a lot of us do love you and we enjoy your posts/threads! Without you, CC would be so boring. Happy birthday!

Re: To The Person Who Just Used the Rep System to Ask Me, "Do You Ever Just Shut Up?!

I appreciate you guys more than you know. :)

I do have a question about the system though:

Tourist was correct about it being someone who had low rep points themselves--the comment registered as a "gray" box instead of green, so no rep points were added.

Can a person who already has rep points disable what they do have in order to not give any rep points away (which would also allow them to further disguise themselves?)

I've always wondered about this, as I've known several others this has happened to and so I always wondered if the system allows you to "hide" your rep points--allowing a person to further "cover" themselves in order to make negative, but anonymous, comments.

I'm guessing, however, that mods can always see who posts what, so if anyone out there ever receives a comment that's REALLY out of line (threatening, etc.), I would suggest to them to report it to the mods immediately.

Re: To The Person Who Just Used the Rep System to Ask Me, "Do You Ever Just Shut Up?!

Happy birthday Seoul. If that person is a guy, he must have a crush on you and doing "the more you hate, the more you love" approach. If she is a girl, she must be jealous that you know maybe not everything but a lot of things and all she knows is she wants to become like you. Whatever the intention of that rudeness, it's their problem so don't let it get to you.

Re: To The Person Who Just Used the Rep System to Ask Me, "Do You Ever Just Shut Up?!

FOR THE RECORD: Whenever I scan the threads in the Singles Forum, if I see seoulsearch was the last one to comment on it I always catch up on the thread, even if it's a thread I don't usually watch.

FOR THE RECORD: I occasionally scan the "likes" I have received. There are a few people here who's opinions matter to me, and when those few people "like" something I take it to heart. seoulsearch is on that list.

FOR THE RECORD: I always try to live by the rule that if I have something to say, I should say it to a person's face - not behind his back as gossip and not anonymously. If I can't do that, I should shut up. This has kept me out of a lot of trouble and it has kept me from hurting a lot of people that I found out later did not deserve the injury.

FOR THE RECORD: Don't you dare shut up Kim. But don't let the preceding statements go to your head or anything... :p And happy birthday. If you were here I'd get that pizza from a local place that pwns Pizza Hut, Dominoes, Papa Johns and all the other chains SO bad. Large supreme, extra extra extra cheese (yes, that's the best way, three extra cheeses) and make sure it is well done with the cheese dark brown on the top. Gives new meaning to the term pizza pie.

Re: To The Person Who Just Used the Rep System to Ask Me, "Do You Ever Just Shut Up?!

I want to thank everyone again from the bottom of my heart for their kind words. (Lynx, you always crack me up! Please, send me 3 of those pizzas. And a cake! :D)

I want to go through and "like" everyone's posts here, but I'm afraid that will make me look like an even BIGGER narcissist than I apparently already am! :p:cool::rolleyes:

My main reason for writing this thread was to take a stance against Anonymous Online Bullying, and to show other people that they CAN do something about it, too, especially if they're going through it as well.

And, I want to be honest with you guys--I am far from perfect and have to confess that I've had some situations in real life in which I'VE been the one to feel the SAME way about someone else, so this has also made me ask myself, "Maybe I'm just reaping what I've been sowing???!!!"

I'm going to ask God to forgive me for the negative feelings I've had towards people in my own life lately, and to give me a better understanding about what they may be going through as well. If nothing else, I can thank the person here for making me think of how the people I've criticized probably need a kind word and a prayer as well.

Although there isn't a "report" button for report Rep comments, those persons who receive anonymous, abusive rep comments should feel free to drop me a CC mail. It is possible to be anonymous to the recipient, however I can pull it up on my end.

What really surprised me in this instance Seoul is that the user that did this hasn't posted on CC in three years and has never used the Rep system other than to leave the one comment.

Color me confused.

Thank you for taking the time to reply, Oncefallen! I appreciate your consideration. :)

Well, that dismisses the two candidates I thought it could possibly be (and that's all I'll say about that.)

However, it also tells me that I apparently picked up The Ultimate Birthday Gift Everyone Wants--an online stalker!

I'll also take the opportunity to ask (and sorry if you saw my post before, as I asked this earlier in the thread):

Can longtime users hide their reputation points in order to give "anonymous" feedback to users?

For example, I recently used the system to give someone a positive rep comment but didn't leave my name (and now I'm thinking I should have), but if that person saw that their rep score went up by 67 points, and happened to notice that's exactly how many rep points I have, my cover would be "blown".

If I had wanted to be sneaky about it, is there a way for someone like me to not give away any rep points and still leave a comment?

Now of course, I'm not encouraging people to do this (and, thank you for your post that lets us know that abusers can't get away with it anyway), but I had always wondered if it's possible, and if that's what some of the people who make negative comments are doing.

P.S. I just saw your comment, thank you. I had two users in mind--one is a guy, one is a girl, and both were here under previous accounts. But, alas. God bless whoever it was.

He or she opened a doorway to a discussion that I think is important for people here to be aware of.

I may be able to clarify. I have noticed that people have made several different accounts some people from 5 years ago will suddenly begin posting and sound very similar to a person who was either banned or had their account deleted. In this case I am guessing it's a person that has attacked soul many times before and no longer has access to that current account.

Or it simply could be a person who hasn't been on cc for three years saw her post and attacked her but regardless I am just glad that seoul handled it as well as she did.

Everyone make a circle to protect seoul :b

She's tough, she don't need a circle. But some birthday balloons would be nice... because I bet she'd like to pop them, just to make a racket. :p

For the better or the worse, this is how I've learned to handle negative feedback, and I actually have CC to thank for that.

My preference, if possible, is to turn negative things into discussions that might help other people.

After all, I know others are probably going through this as well, so my hope is that it will always let them know they are not alone, and that there are alternative ways of dealing with it. Lately I've been seeing a lot of news headlines about young people who are live-streaming their suicides, often due to comments like this, and it just breaks my heart.

But you don't have to crumble; you don't have to take it to heart; and most of all, you don't have to let it hold you back.

I'm as human as anyone else--when I first read the comment, my blood pressure went up about 50 points for a couple of minutes, and at first I was upset, and then I was a little sad.

Then I wrote this thread... then had a little prayer time with God... and then I took a nap. :p

My next mission? I'm going to try to find something for dinner. :D (Everyone come on over for pizza and cake!)

Re: To The Person Who Just Used the Rep System to Ask Me, "Do You Ever Just Shut Up?!

P.S. It's clear that the administrative staff knows who this person is; hopefully, this will prevent them from doing the same in the future to anyone else, which will make it all worth the while.

I don't mind honest feedback; all I ask is that you at least tell me who you are, so that I at least have a chance to answer your concerns, even if you don't like any of the answers.

Not that I'm aware of. As you are aware, you can hide your reputation level (green bars), but you can't hide your rep power.
