Honestly...we didn't have a lot of toys (I realized much later in life that we were probably what the world considers "Poor"), but I can remember only one thing that I wanted as a kid. When I was probably about 7 I saw a life-sized stuffed Golden Retriever at a secondhand store. He was in fairly good shape, and he had the wisest, kindest glass eyes of any stuffed animal in the world. I think he cost 5 dollars, which was a lot of money when we couldn't afford beef. Anyways, of course we didn't get him. The dumb thing? Even thought that was over a decade ago, I still ache when I think of that dog... :)
My parents had to stretch their money for 5 kids 9 years apart. I am pretty sure I can figure out why He-man never got his sidekick but if you are a kid you only see money and you know your parents earn it.

We were also poor (in earthly possessions) when I grew up... in saying that we never went to bed hungry and my mother never had to go to a bar to get my dad. He was not always the best example (emotionally) but at least he was home every night.

My situation exactly. And when you start thinking about food, parents, and a spiritual inheritance, the toys somehow don't seem so important :)

My brother was funny. One Christmas he wanted a granade. He was about six years old I think. He had even decided how he was going to use it. He was disappointed when he never had it.

I wanted this Barbie when I was a kid. I had plenty of Barbies but for some reason I never got this one.

I really wanted a Nintendo (the original NES). I felt so out of place after XMas when I was practically the only kid who didn't get one.

...like I needed to stand out MORE from everyone else.

You got robbed! I broke my ankle and spent endless hours trying to save the princess on Super Mario Brothers with friends. Up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, b, a, and start. Bam!

Ummmm. I wanted a robot, but never got it. Had to settle for Transformers and Go-bots instead.
