I would obey God, regardless of what he commanded me to do. Remember Abraham? Genesis 22

are you aware of the fact that all sin is a direct disobedience of God's commands? for me, i'm still working on obeying what is found in the bible.

i think we should be obedient always, and we should also check any "leading" we're feeling against the very word of God as well.

2 Timothy 3:16
16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

Having a relationship with God means being able to communicate, petition and negotiate with Him.

Believe it or not God is actually reasonable. And there is reason behind for every act he performs.

The old testament is literally a testament to our continuing relationship with God through obedience, disobedience, reconciliation, and repentance.

It is our guide to understanding the character and nature of God.

I don't believe in an arbitrary, irrational God who is simply a cosmological fixture. This God who plays out the Universe like a cassette tape, set in sequence and organized to simply act out as He orchestrated.

I know my God hears me, that He listens, that He understands. :)

We are here to honor God and live according His purposes and not our own. There are times in our lives when nothing make sense but in the end we eventually understand that it was all for God's purpose. He has reasons we dont know yet, all we need to do is trust Him.

Proverbs 16:1-4, 7, 9 GNTD

We may make our plans, but God has the last word. You may think everything you do is right, but the Lord judges your motives. Ask the Lord to bless your plans, and you will be successful in carrying them out. Everything the Lord has made has its destiny; and the destiny of the wicked is destruction. When you please the Lord, you can make your enemies into friends. You may make your plans, but God directs your actions.

Actually, in my experience if God tells you to do something completely crazy, or more to the point something that seems to be against basic common sense, He usually shows you why. Remember He told Hosea why he should marry a hooker.

I don't want to say that something like this would never happen again, but something like this will probably never happen :p

I think it's good to discern what passages in the Bible are prescriptive and which are descriptive before deciding to follow someone's example. For example, the Bible says that David was a man after God's heart, but we would not follow his example on many things. In the case of Hosea, we know that events are being described in that book, so we can't assume that we should follow in Hosea's footsteps (which no one has suggested, I know) and put ourselves in an extremely difficult and potentially even dangerous marital situation.

To humor the question, though, if something like that were ever to happen to me, which I seriously seriously doubt would ever be the case, I would take many steps to ensure that this was a call from God before taking any action.

I would do as I was told if I was absolutely positively convinced it was God.

That would take a lot of convincing.

I don't know if God told my Sister to marry 2 alcoholics but she did. The 1st one didn't last but the second husband has been sober for 5 years now. I can tell you I'm immensely proud of him and her too. His parents and brother's were also alcoholics. They used to leave the kids in the car to go to bar's. His father was a control freak and his mom who still drinks and tries to encourage her son's to come drink with her, he stays away from his Mom because he doesn't want to drink again. His brother was doing well in recovery and his Mom bought him a bottle of liquor for his birthday, very sad and unbelievable. I'm actually surprised she's still living. His other brother died from an over dose in his car. It was tragic. So he has had some hard times in his life. I am proud that he's maintained sobriety and if he ever does slip again I would encourage him to scratch it off and start over.

So I don't know if God told my Sister to marry him or not but it seems to have helped him get and remain sober.

I don't know why or how every man or woman ends up in the prostitution life style. But I do know that many children are forced into this life, no fault of their own. Some thankfully are rescued from this life. As I said I don't know how or why, I realize some may get into that lifestyle to pay for drugs. Some may not. I for one feel for them.

i didn't know until i got the end post why i was reading this thread. (started somewhere on this page, linked in from another page, haven't read the op)....

a well known, powerful in prayer, broken in suffering (in communist prison; for the name of jesus (the gospel) ) ,
minister witnessed and testified publicly of 16 year old virgins become prostitutes
to gain money that was available no other way
because the churches in america (who knew what was happening)
remained silent, on purpose... when

the 16 year old's fathers were ministers in the communist country, were (when left alive)
arrested and robbed of home, food, money, possessions, clothes except for what they had on,
and the whole family likewise left with only what they had on,
and no house nor home to live in,
and no job available nor allowed by the strict government
-- if anyone helped the family
they who helped and their family suffer the same fate.(loss of everything).(yes. today. 2015)

the usa embassy, consulate, representatives, -- government, church, private, all -- remained and remain silent(with few if any exceptions(perhaps voice of the martyrs-VOM) )
about this widespread oppression(from before 1950 to the present), and

the church(es) in particular ,

in the usa, ARE GUILTY (still, continuing, today). when they are silent, when(if?) they deny it,

and when they do nothing.(to provide support for those families driven penniless out of house and home and job and all.....)

p.s. like in the dark ages, during plagues, the only ones who help at great risk to their own lives and family,
are those who already "died in Christ Jesus" and the life they live now (today, 2015) they live by (real and true ) faith in Christ Jesus who loves them and gave Himself for them !
